  1. Thanks for the comments! I dose my tank with phytoplankton every few days and use Selcon to supplement the corals and fishfood once a week. Could that be why it's growing so much? So far, no NH3 in tank, nitritesnitrates/phosphates all in low levels.
  2. That's what I suspected... Wow. Okay thanks! Thanks shifu! How do I keep it alive? There are like.. 2 or 3 small ones around the tank besides this one. Does that mean the tank is healthy? Attack from MARS!
  3. Hello, This weird patch of thing suddenly appeared on my LR one day and started spreading. Now there are a few scattered around the tank... But this is the largest one (part of firecoral as size ref.) So... What in the world is it????
  4. Okay noted. OMG I WAS THERE TODAY. Got so distracted by his nano's that I forgot to ask.... Thanks! What size of phytoplankton?
  5. Hello, I used to feed mine Interpet Liquifry Marine then changed to JBL Korall Fluid, they seemed to prefer the Liquifry but I can't find it in stores. What other brands of food or home-made food are ? More experienced keepers care to share?
  6. Herbtana (Reef version) by Microbe-Lift. Needs daily, consistent dosages and you have to turn off your skimmer. Has a tendency to kill small crabs (rock crabs, hairy crabs) but its a good thing! Harmless to larger shrimp like boxers. Also, might stress featherdusters a bit but doesn't kill them. Coral safe! =)
  7. Coenobita rugosus - Land Hermit Crab Come in various shades of grey and sometimes purple. They sell them in petshops here, used to keep! Super smart little buggers. Not for marine tanks though, they drown......
  8. Wow! Some of my favourite fishes are in your setup! Pictures soon?
  9. thanks! In the case of them really being terrors, how do I get rid of them?
  10. Hmmm. I've read a lot of horror stories about boxer shrimp online... And witnessed one of them nipping my algae blenny.
  11. The boxers weren't my purchase, my dad mistook them as cleaners and bought. Wanted to get cleaner shrimps as my fish keep pestering the boxers/coral banded to clean them. Also, I did not know they were predators. Could they be the reason why my firefish kept dissapearing? O.o
  12. Hi all, Should I risk buying a Cleaner Shrimp and putting it in with my Hawkfishes? The two coral-banded shrimp so far are fine, wondering if Cleaners will survive. Thanks!
  13. my dad recently got a cleaner wrasse as an IBS purchase, quite heartbroken when I saw it in the tank. So far, its active and bright-looking and feeding on small bits of mysis or cyclopeeze. I don't know how long he'll last, but as one who believes that cleaner wrasses are one of the fishes that should be left in the wild and not be cooped up in a parasite-free tank. cheers and peace-out.
  14. NTS = ich. cure ich with lower salinity= happy. lower salinity somehow = get fungus. sighhhh.

  15. Hi guys, My Hippo Tangs and Clarkii clownfish keep pestering my Coral Banded shrimp to groom them, even though they aren't cleaners. Would it be safe to introduce a jumbo-sized cleaner shrimp, and what species I should get? My tank has 2 hawkfish in it so I'm not sure if it's a risk I should take. I know hawkfish eat shrimp, but so far my Coral Banded shrimp are fine... (and they're rather small.) Thanks in advance!
  16. You could try long-nosed hawkfish, if it's a small one. Try not to keep other sygnathids (seahorse relatives) like pipefish with the seahorses because can spread viruses between them.
  17. H.kuda are the most "tropical"... I'm keeping one captive bred kuda and one that I suspect might be a mis-identified reidi. They eat like pigs!
  18. Disease from freshwater fish can occasionally cross over to marine, so make sure to quarantine your feeders first or treat them with meds. No experience keeping lionfish, but it might be possible to slowly wean them onto frozen/dead food much like other types of marine creatures. Lionfish aren't good beginner fish though...
  19. Oops! Sorry wrong forum, Mod could you help me move this to Newbie forum? Thanks!
  20. Hello, Which brand of hydrometer (spelling?) is the most accurate/reliable, from experience? Thanks.
  21. omg the gem tang costs as much as the tank... Thanks I do try to show respect to him. Just that I had to let off some steam somewhere. Also coz I'm quite scared.
  22. Hmmm okay will monitor. 1) 1 week with LR alone. 2 weeks with a few fish. 2) LR in sump and main tank, deep sanbed. Macroalgae refugium with 24 hours light. Haven't started dosing bacteria. Should I? 3)Reef Octupus. I can't remember the volume. Specs above, sump around 1/2 of main tank's volume.
  23. Hi again, I did my reasearch on Tangs, and it stated as long as they are all introduced at around the same time (new tank) there will be less problems. I realize that there are a lot of risks, but since it's a 2.5'x 5' tank decided to take them. So far I have... - 1x Purple tang - 1x Yellow tang - 1x Kole tang - 2x Sailfin tang - 2x Hippo tang - 1x Powder blue - 1x Naso tang Am planning to re-sale once problems arise. They've all beent there for at least a week (the kole, yellow, and purple 2weeks) and I have not observed any aggression except from the Purple tang (can aggressive to anything or totally peaceful. have moodswings.) The Naso and powder stick to eachother. The two juvenile Sailfins and the Yellow shoal, so do the hippos. The Kole keeps to itself. Comments?
  24. Thanks! I'll try. Tried before =/ The tank is a 5ft. So far I haven't added anemones because I'm scared of poisoning the rest of the corals/fish incase they die. Would the aggression be less if they don't have anemones? Yea, thats what people tell me. If they don't listen let them learn the hard way... but a bit heart pain luh. Thanks!
