  1. My philosophy is to research what I would like to get in future. This way, when the opportunity comes, I can buy it safely knowing my tank can support it. Of course once in a while there's this exotic looking thing tt comes in and you know nothing of... tt's where iphone comes in! nowadays with 3g and my trusty iphone, anything is possible
  2. What are your tank parameters like? Other than bioload, you also should consider the amount of swimming space your fishes have. More fish=less swimming space=more stress. I personally think you have more than enough fish in your 6 footer. I would keep even lesser fish. But tt's just me. With your sohal and 2 xl purple tangs, I would forget about adding anymore fishes. As good as $ down the drain and murduring precious lifestock.
  3. one point to take note of. Filter sock is 100% effective. Tt means tt almost nothing gets past it. You will have to clean it quite often or the sock will clog up v. quickly. Of course if tank is v. clean then nothing to worry about.
  4. no need workshop la, who is gonna take the time to organise? Just jio one of the bros out here for lfs shopping, then maybe treat him lunch. hahaa Can get all the answers you need. Get a few out to get more varied responses Everyone subscribes to different school of thought. Like I say dead rock can be converted to LR. Just get a cup of live sand from a kind bro and sprinkle on top of the rocks when cycling. And protein skimmer is like the heart of the tank. No matter how small the tank, skimmer still can pull out some gunk. can you imagine sleeping with the same amount of gunk smeared on your bed? I wouldn't wanna do tt
  5. hehe 1 nice big prata enough to cover your whole tank
  6. sad to hear tt. Maybe in future for those fishes tt commonly come down with these deadly diseases can practice qt? I'm thinking of setting up a qt tank for the next fish I'm eyeing too. As the tank establishes and you have got prized LS, you wouldn't wanna risk not qting and wipe out the entire fish population.
  7. 2 schools of thought here really. Up to you to decide which you wanna subscribe to.
  8. he will be super grouchy one la... hahaa tested and proven.
  9. My wrasses nipped it to death long time ago le... lol I dosed phytoplankon to keep it alive coz mine were still small.
  10. Wouldn't recommend it. You will be hard pressed to keep anything beyond 2ft be it LPS or soft. SPS even worse. Unless you want to keep NPS beyond 2ft
  11. Thanks bro! Looking forward to feeding my corals meaty food
  12. If I had a chance to redesign your sump when starting the tank, I will take away the LR in 3rd compartment and install either a dsb or denitrator. However, in your case, I would suggest not to change anything unless u have fish dying due to high nitrates. Are you currently dosing any bac? I find tt it helps me. When was the last time you did a water change? One of the best nitrate exporting method is conducting regular WC.
  13. lol let me decide... Tell you tonight. I seriously like my sunflowers alot... hahaa and they are starting to grow summore.
  14. lol definitely not the eagle eyes. But the sunflower, if got good price, I might consider. The rest, yes I'm selling. Can include the RPE too. Can find somewhere in the first few pages of my thread. okie, seems like a few of you guys interested in the zoas and some other corals. I don't want any bad blood, so later when you guys come over can have a friendly discussion of who wants what for the more popular ones k? To be fair, I will set the mini 'open house' timing from 7-8.30pm Anyone who comes after 8.30 be prepared to be disappointed. lol
  15. Can always transfer them out and feed. Especially the suns. I haven't had the time to do tt even... urghh my tank looks damn sad now actually...
  16. haha I'm letting go some of my zoas la... Can look through my posts to see what zoas I have. Common green zoas, RPE, Blue/purple hornets, the pink one (dunno what it is), n possibly candy apple frag. Who wants to buy can come over tonight, I'm home early. can PM me if interested. Going to be v. busy at work this month... Hope to maintain whatever I have in my tank and nurse them back to health. Although can't really do tt if i come home late and straight to bed, and out of house first thing in the morning. Haiz, don't even have time to target feed them anymore. Will have to do something about it tonight.
  17. No computer at home... sigh nvm la let the tank settle down first also. I'm gonna lose some of my corals soon anyway, nothing much to show. haha Think I will try rotifers soon. Reefroids and phytomax are for my gonio and other filter feeding corals. It works la. Just switch off skimmer for 1 hour.
  18. Mine never exceeds 10ppm. I feed mysis, pellets twice daily. 5in1 coral food, reefroids, frozen cyclopeeze, kent marine phytomax: combination of what I like daily. you got too many fishes la. I only have 9 fishes now. and all v. low bioload ones. But my constant shifting of my corals + recent change in rockscape is resulting in my corals not doing well. Gonna stop stocking up and let tank stabilise for the next month.
  19. The water entering your 1st compartment is already oxygenated coming from the overflow. I don't think you should be concerned whether your skimmer outflow is too rich in oxygen. However you are right in saying that anaerobic bacteria requires low or no oxygen + dark areas to grow. I don't think LR is a good media to cultivate anaerobic bacteria. Reefers usually either use a denitrator or DSB to control for nitrates. You might want to consider useing either of these 2 methods to control your nitrates. However let me stress that fowlr tanks normally have higher nitrates compared to reef tanks because of the higher bioload of fishes. If you want to reduce nitrates, I strongly encourage you to reduce your feedings or number of fishes in your tank. X gallonage can normally support only x number of fishes. Overstocking too much will put too much stress on your system and invite a time bomb waiting to explode.
  20. wow the last rock looks like some spaceship from star trek or something! "2 opposing spaceships facing off in the deep blue ocean" theme maybe?
  21. How much poop? I bet my then urchin pooped much more than ure coco worm
  22. C328 is at Clementi Ave 2 btw. There are 2 fish shops at block 328. Polyart and C328. Both offer extremely attractive pricing if you can find what you are looking for there.
  23. bro v. kiasu sia, so many live rocks and biohome in sump... If your current system works, stick to it. Why change something that is not broken? Is there anything wrong with your current setup tt u would like to improve on?
  24. I spot a v. nice yellow clown goby. Where did you get it from? Is it feeding already?
  25. The only disadvantage of keeping rocks on sand is they might be disturbed if you are gonna keep sand burrowing fishes like sand gobies. I'm assuming you have a shallow sandbed, so whether it's sitting on tank bottom or sand shouldn't really matter.
