  1. Bro if you check your box will have instructions on how much biohome you need. The recommended amount to use for sw tanks is 1L of biohome for every 1125L water. you bought 2kg = 2.5L. hehe have enough media for up to almost 600G! Haven't even taken into account your live rocks yet. No need to buy more le... the bacteria in your tank can only grow so much based on your bioload. Doesn't mean having more media = more bacteria, therefore more efficient in nitrifying process, I think... Anyway the best way to reduce nitrates quickly is water change
  2. Actually I have been looking at these LEDs. Maybe bro Sherman or the LED gurus can recommend? Based on my correspondence with their sales team: KR91: 8000lux and 300PAR (I'm assuming these are at surface) Is this sufficient for LPS/Soft coral tank up to 24" depth? KR92 as taken from their website: No mention of what LEDs they use and what wattage.
  3. Anyone has any idea how to get my YCB to start feeding? Bought him on thurs when he just came in, until now still refusing to eat anything. Tried Frozen Mysis, ON prime reef, Arctic pods, cyclopeeze. Refuse to eat anything. Gonna try Henry's and frozen brine tmr. Anything else I should do? Isolate it in my beta box? transfer to qt tank? He's currently making friends with my 2 juv true percs now in the beta box. Always swims inside to say hi and pay them a visit. Unlike my 3 pigs (chromis) who only know how to disturb them. FYI I just opened up the sides of my beta box today so the 3 percs can choose to swim out if they want to. Been adviced that they can fend for themselves already.
  4. If I'm not wrong, previous model didn't have timer and only had 1 plug for all 3 lights. Which means cannot program the 3 different lights to come on at different times, have to do manually. Although it's nothing fanciful, makes a lot of difference for tanks that are LPS and softies dominated. To me, the old model was totally impractical just because of the lack of this unfanciful feature. With this, reefers not interested in SPS have a much cheaper alternative than most of the other products in the market. That's a big plus!
  5. Am I reading wrongly from KR91 on their online shop? KR91-36B(220V) ˙3 Lighting modes: Day light > Blue light > Moon light ˙Adjustable width tank mounts or Pendant mounts ˙Energy saving & environmental protection ˙Heat is radiated away from the tank expelling the need for chillers ˙Long life time up to 50,000 hours eliminating bulb replacement ˙No UV or IR damage light sensitive items ˙PC / VHO / T5 / MH replacement ˙Programmable timer to control lighting mode Did they do a revamp of the KR91 too? hmmmmm now the KR91 looks even more tempting!
  6. hmm... go during his feeding time? Everytime I go in the evening he's feeding the fishes, n all always seem to be feeding well.
  7. Aiyah human nature... Everyone's more attracted to scandals than proper news. But I agree, TS quite smart you know... no need to do anything, get free upz. If I were selling something, I will want attention right? (but only the right kind la...)
  8. me using the newer teco: TR15. quiet, efficient, reliable. maybe don't qualify to comment on comparison hor? but just my 2 cents... Anyway, do consider Fuzzy's recommendation. To me, I would go for a used Hailea than a used Resun. Maybe it's just me, but a used Resun is too unreliable in my books to even consider if it's efficient enough in helping me save my electricity bills. ok... maybe tt was 5 cents worth
  9. Forgot to ask... how long did your SeaGel last? Just put inside and cultivate lor... best is dose some bacteria starter to help you. And they recommend putting biohome in a dark area, so maybe blacktape tt compartment
  10. When buying used, I guess the deal breaker is the condition of the chiller. w/o more information like number of years used, last service date, I would choose the teco over the resun. Chinese brands don't tend to last very long. I know some bros have had good experience with their resun running for >5yrs, but it's like buying a 2nd hand car. I would rather buy a used toyota/honda over chery. Period.
  11. Water cannot seep through the sand la bro... haha I tried before on my previous tank, eventually had to clear the sand Besides even if you found a way to do it, defeats the purpose of DSB coz you don't want the sand to be disturbed. Biohome should be v. effective, 1kg is more than enough for 4ft especially when you have LR in your DT already. 2kg is for the extra kiasu. To save $$, just get the normal ones instead of the red ones. They cost almost twice as much as the normal ones! C328 or polyart at Clementi should carry them, the price is not the lowest, px difference prob <$5 if you don't want to scout ard.
  12. ooh oki... I guess if you're doing DSB, between them and LR, your bio filtration will be sufficient. Can I ask why you are using Seachem seagel? Think a lot of bros here use carbon and phosphate exclusively. Any good experiences to share? Also, I don't think your second compartment can be used for DSB. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I see, there is only underflow coming in from your 1st compartment (intending to put LR). How will water be able to flow through if your sand is blocking the underflow? Looks to me you have to put it in the last compartment, then no space for return pump le...
  13. bro have you considered using biohomme instead of LR? quite a lot neater and cleaner
  14. I think Teco RA680 is the older model. Not sure if you can still find this model brand new (Maybe at RD?). Even if you do, it's tough to compare between the both. I think the Teco is prob more efficient than the Resun, but is the initial price difference justifiable if you save $5-10 monthly on electrical bills? You can't expect the Teco to be like 50% more efficient right? btw, Teco's warranty period should be 2 years... so that's another factor to consider.
  15. lol i figured tt was their "out", but seems like pooping sand. Just wanna check if anyone's urchin does the same thing. Fascinating to watch at first, but then when you have fine sand flying all around the tank, doesn't look tt cool anymore
  16. My pincushion urchin was releasing sand from the top of its head earlier this evening. Did this several times today already. Is there anything wrong with it? It only chooses to shoot out very fine sand right in front of my wavemaker, like mini sandstorm.
  17. haha bro worst thing is you do water change, clean tank, clean floor clean toilet but never complain about hobby, only proud of it. My living room's prob cleaner now coz I always have to mop up after spilling water.
  18. I think Reborn and Iwarna carries UVL tubes rite?
  19. Flooded living room... floor was sticky for over a week! countless mopping... yeah, the worse thing is everything happens when you're not at home. worse is you're on holiday! shudders...
  20. btw I heard of using metronidazole to cure ich other internal parasites. I bought a bottle to battle my chromis's protozoa infection. Kinda have alot, if you want a few can spare you, or wanna buy more to stock up your medicine cabinet also can... I have more than enough to share ard. I think the norm for Fowlr tank is to use copper to treat, dunno if it will leech onto your LR and be released in future to harm corals, have to check with other bros. (I have no experience in doing this) Also can try using methylene blue to cure white spots. Pls read up on the various methods n decide for yourself which is best k? Of course the best method is to qt them and treat them separately, but for tangs you prob need something like 15-20 gallons per tang in seperate tanks. They need the space, otherwise they might stress n up lorry coz they got not enough space to swim. n have to put disclaimer, all these is through my own research online when I was reading up, maybe other bros have better way to solve based on their experience.
  21. Since you don't have corals now can just treat the tank as fowlr, will be easier. remember to run carbon AFTER treatment to get rid of the chemicals. I would suggest using AZ-NO3 for quick control of nitrates, but use denitrator or refugium or dosing bacteria or any other way to cultivate sufficient bacteria to control your NO3 in the long run. Remember to stop stocking and concentrate on ure tangs and clown. Clownfish also prone to Brooklynella, so also watch out for tt. Pls test your water quality more often during this period. Will be in trouble if ammonia or nitrites are not zero. Might want to consider lowering your salinity for now. Fowlr tanks don't need high salinities like reef tanks n I think parasites tend not to do as well at lower salinity, but remember to bring it down really really gradually, don't wanna add further stress to your fishes. Lastly chill n relax! Read up more in this forum on qt, new tank syndrome, managing water quality etc n I'm sure your fishes will do fine n can start your dream reef tank
  22. hmmm how about monitor your ph too? When I switch off my skimmer for 12hrs after dosing bacteria, the ph tends to drop on the low side.
  23. hmm thx bro I've been hunting for ceith snails for quite some time le.. also never see any
