  1. actually just to add, when choosing fish, "biggest available" might not necessarily be the best. I'm not pro at choosing fish, but I suppose body shape, finnage, colour, behaviour are some other indications to look out for. It's always good to walk away from a potential purchase if you're not comfortable with the condition of the fish. but then again... easy to say, hard to put into practice. I've heard alot of about the aggressiveness of 6-line, might want to consider selling it if you are intending to get more peaceful fishes in future. Actually between 6 line n PT, lol you're better off going for an aggressive tank le
  2. I also believe in primes due to their superior optical performance. My legs can act as zoom More stuff to add to my xmas wishlist! I really seldom find the need to go beyond 100mm, unless I'm going to zoo or sungei buloh, then 200mm also not enough. Off topic abit, I would love to get my hands on a WA. 10-20mm! wootz been really lazy this weekend for this thread, more to come tonight!
  3. I never knew chengai could stain floor, have not seen any stains despite my multiple spilling and splashing of water. Chengai's more ex because of is stronger due to its wood grain structure. It's v. weather proof too, apparantly it is the material used for making those wooden boats. Carpenter will tell you its durable, can last at least 10 years w/o misuse. But will you use the cabinet for 10 years? Up to you, as always the case, better quality products will be more expensive.
  4. heh why are we not surprised? Glad to see your tank's finally up and ready to stock up!
  5. bro beautiful tank! n v. clean. must be practicing good husbandry
  6. I say prime suspect prob ure six line... They belong to the same line family. Generally do not get along well. How did you introduce the your mystery wrasse? I try to keep my wrasse in the betta box for at least a few days to monitor. Kinda gives your tank inhabitants some time to get used to the fish as well. Release only at night when lights are out so they can find their own territory in the dark, reducing aggression. I dunno how to nurse it back to health other than providing it a safe haven, and try to make it as stress free as possible. That includes having some insulation pipings / rocks for it to hide in ure refug, not slamming your cabinet door, and since I'm paranoid, try not to keep peering into ure refug and see how it's doing. Prob give the poor fella even more stress. Hope it gets better!
  7. ok memorial service over... To all my Cirrhilabrus lover friends: "They are diurnally active and sleep at night pinned within rockwork, protected by a mucus cocoon which they secrete around themselves. A similar cocoon in Parrotfish was demonstrated to protect the sleeping fish by masking its scent from the sensitive olfactory nerves of nocturnal predators. It is presumed that the cocoon performs the same function for Cirrhilabrus." cool stuff! I have a new King in the tank! need to cross fingers for the next couple of weeks though... then he should be out of danger zone.
  8. bro lovely ventralis! Nice meeting you at Henry's the other day... Hope they are acclimatizing nicely in your tank. Absolutely stunning fish!
  9. Special memorial service for my YCB... Poor bugger just never ever did acclimatize to aquarium life.
  10. the scaping looks abit flat to me. It should look nicer if you add more depth to it. I agree with Jacky, its more like a wall now than cosy home for your fishes. I had alot of problems with my scaping. Find that it's easier with bigger, less rocks. Especially since you already have the tank set up, it might be useful to scape first outside the tank to get an idea of how you would like your scape to be, then transfer them into the tank
  11. If you intend to keep deep water fishes, a chiller is more reliable than fan. I would also recommend using eheim canisters for their reliability. wrasses are known to jump. In your case, a 1.5 ft height gives them v. little buffer. Might want to consider getting some form of lid/netting.
  12. My rocks have turned quite purple within 3 months from start of tank. Coralline algae is starting to grow on my tank walls, and I have to find a way to scrub them off. I have no idea what factors contributes to coralline growth, so I will just list out what i think I'm doing right to encourage growth 1. Lighting period: 8 hrs daily 2. Calcium: I think it's maintained around 380-400ppm 3. NO3 <10ppm 4. PO4 undetectable 5. PH Range 8.0-0.2 6. KH kept between 9-11 6. weekly 8-10% water change (I have not tested for mg, st, etc.) 7. DD H2Ocean Salt I used to dose purple up for the first month of cycling, either no effect or tank still too new, but after I finished, have been dosing calcium weekly in my water change, no set amount actually... just 2-3 capfuls every week...
  13. train them to become model! hahaa I saw this father, so engrossed with trying out new camera. The daughter was a natural, just kept posing n posing, like super pro like tt... lol ok.... back to topic, what shall I write on next? P&S tips? HP Camera? other suggestions?
  14. it looks like I'm looking at a nano inside a nano! Because you already have corals, when you get LR, be careful it doesn't lead to an ammonia spike from the die off!
  15. i forsee goby hunting season coming up!
  16. sorry to disappoint you Jacky, you gotta wait afew more days... my tripod isn't with me and my hands abit shakey, can't take a fts tonight... Will try to do it over the weekend yeah? Anyway, here's a nice pic of my true octo under my blue lights... Another reason why I'm considering LEDs is their nice blue fluorescent effect. This is like tame compared to corals under Royal blue LEDs. Can anyone idea the brown stuff growing just under it?
  17. haha i know why... PINK! U better hope she dun make ure balteatus shocking pink! lol
  18. Ahh... another pro to help me thanks alot! I think I have a clearer idea now on camera setup. thx to all for helping me clear my doubts.
  19. lemon u paranoid la... I hope it's not disease too! monitor ure tank closely
  20. Nice colours! The ONE n ONLY Balteatus!
  21. I think I should look for blue-purple pellets! Then maybe they eat purple n blue food, colour also blue purple waah... wait later look like blue black... lol
  22. waah... the colours v. swee I'm sure it's much better than mine.
  23. For me, I really like the idea of having 2-3 big rocks in a 1.5 cube. Easy to scape, solid and steady. Try to build the model before buying the rocks I have seen a reefer here who had a sort of 2.5 cube with 3 big rocks. Loved the scape, lots or crevice, nooks for fishes to sleep in, n had nice slopes to put corals, and all rose up to form a plateau . Just more ideas for you to consider!
  24. lol sigma 50mm f1.4 was out in the market way before the nikon afs one. It was the only choice in the mkt for ppl like me, and had v. good reviews other than front focusing problems, which their sg office will callibrate for free. Quality wise, it is comparable with Nikon AFS, some prefer Sigma, others prefer Nikon. Price wise, I think Sigma might be more expensive by a bit. Build wise, Sigma is like a MG barrel compared to Nikon, but the build doesn't really bother me, I actually prefer a solid feel. heh I don't mind discussing lens here... no worries!
  25. heh coz D60 has no internal focusing motor, I will need an AFS lens. I agree nothing beats the AFD, but due to my limited choices, the Sigma is a solid performer in this range
