  1. Nice big blue font, easy on my eyes CF has an almost constant supply of them.
  2. I'm tinkering with the idea of setting up a ~10 gallon refugium (18x12x18). Actually have been tinkering about it for some time, but my main consideration when starting up the tank was just to get it up and running. Now tt I have some experience, looking for ways to improve it. I have no sump, running on canister, and don't intend to change to sump. Very happy with my canister, and it looks way neater. Currently toying with the idea of setting up an above tank display fuge. My aim for this project: 1. Nutrient export to curb algae growth in the tank via cheato algae. ( I want my white sand back, new tank syndrome but still, its a + for fuge) 2. Pod cultivation. ( I want to keep mandarin and other hard to feed fishes) 3. Nice looking mini display of refuge for fishes / other LS tt I otherwise wouldn't be able to keep in main tank. (think harlequin, anemone shrimps, the like. Maybe can serve as a frag tank too!?) 4. Serve as a denitrator? Still toying around with the idea of dsb... because it's going to be on display, don't think it will look nice aesthetically. Considering Miracle Mud too, but tt one has mixed reviews. Would be good if I get some comments on this. My plan so far is quite simple. Refering to my lousy drawing... the idea is to pump in water from main tank into a small compartment for my MCE600 to do its skimming. The pump will be more powerful than my skimmer, so that this compartment actually overflows out into the refugium. Therefore, my refugium will not be be receiving nutrient starved water from skimmer alone. So with cheato at the back and some LR in front, tt's my idea of a refugium, which will be gravity fed back to my main tank. The refugium will be maintained at a water level of around 1-2" above the main tank waterline. I will be using my 1.5ft 39W 12k daylight fixture on a reverse photo period. Appreciate your comments on this setup. For example, will I be facing micro bubble issues? or any other thing I've overlooked?
  3. lol I think he's a fruit seller or distributor... Definitely a successful one of course. But it's not really how he's able to afford it tt's amazing, it's his passion and dedication to this hobby, I think really deserve
  4. Deimos sorry... really did sound abit too fierce. Maybe its a combination of weather + irritating boss lol But true ok? need to read up n learn more, even more quickly now that your tank is actually running. You definitely need to stop stocking up on fishes and corals to wait for tank to stabilize. I dunno if I will kena flame by saying this: run PUR-II to remove excess ammonia and nitrite, dose bacteria for the next 1 month, monitor your parameters with basic test kits. This is no solution to your problem, you will find that by cutting short the cycling process, your tank will not stabilize as it should. Might run into more problems in future. At least for now, hopefully it will bring down your ammonia and nitrite levels to less toxic levels.
  5. bro, 1 week of cycling + so many fishes + no skimmer? It's like a time bomb... I suggest you give/sell your fishes away and restart the cycle if you can catch them out. Otherwise your poor damsels will prob be the only ones left in the end due to their hardiness, and you will have a hard time introducing other fishes because they are aggressive. You mentioned before that you are on a budget. There are some stuff in reefing that you cannot save on. You can go for lower quality, but you still need to get. If not, tank crash, decom, you lose even more $$. More importantly, you have to start reading up. Get to know the basic stuff on how to start and set up a SW tank at the v. least. Frankly, I'm v. surprised at some of your mistakes. You have experience running a FW tank and you don't know about cycling your tank?
  6. Less than a week is good. Not good to house especially big fishes in the betta box for too long.
  7. if you can catch it into a betta box will be good. Next time should release fish into box first to train them to eat prepared food then let them out. Otherwise just drop enough to satisfy your other fishes and then dangle food in front of your clown. Live brine shrimp can be found at some LFS, no nutritional value, but tt's worse case scenario. Ocellaris should feed easily, no need to resort to that.
  8. was it feeding in the shop? If it was, prob just need time to settle down into the tank. Are the angel n damsel bullying your clown? If it still doesn't eat, you might want to try to bait it with live food or frozen food.
  9. Introduce betta box into tank and feed only into betta box. Hopefully they will get used to swimming in for food. Don't trap them the first time they swim in. Allow them to get used to it, then u can close it off QUICKLY. Or if they sleep in open waters at night, just switch on your lights after ~30min of darkness n stun them. Can scoop them out easily. Can use chopsticks or something to nudge them into the open if they don't sleep too deep within ure rockwork. You only get a short window for this to work. lol same as lemon... he teach me one
  10. Bro did you let your tank cycle? Just checking coz your first post was less than a week ago. May I know the reason for having ceramic rings as part of your sandbed? I have not seen any tank like tt before. Anyway the damsels will get aggressive once established, I don't know how you are going to catch them out with your rockwork if you want to add fishes in future. Also, I count at least 8-9 fish in your tank already, what happened to learning your lesson on stocking up too fast? Lastly, you really should have gotten a skimmer first before adding LS. I suggest doing frequent water changes (at least 10-15% every 3-4 days) and get a skimmer ASAP. I apologize if I'm jumping to conclusions, but I really hope your tank has been fully cycled.
  11. A new video on Ching's tank! amazing stuff as usual. The soft coral tank... omg I dunno how he's going to upkeep it, but it's bloody nice.
  12. That sounds good! If u want more variety I can give you some. Give them as much nutrition as possible! I have too much of it anyway in my freezer. I have at least 8 different frozen food in my freezer + Arctipods if you want any To think my yellow clown goby still didn't make it... Actually since I'm kinda , w3ish3ng, if you want, I also can give you! I'm trying to go 100% NLS now la...
  13. Coral Farm in Lim Chu Kang. Can check here for map of LFS http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=q&hl=...617981&z=11 Quite outdated, but accurate for most of the LFS.
  14. wow Evansi + Ventralis! Hope they will thrive in your tank yeah? pseudanthias are really beautiful
  15. I agree. Anyway, megapixel counting is really just a sales gimmick unless you are blowing up poster sized photos. These are just some examples for those still using camera phones that you can still take beautiful photos of your tank for all of us to enjoy! I think I was able to achieve some ok looking bokeh because of the relatively short focal length of the camera phone lens, relatively close 'critical focus'. Can the pros correct me if i'm wrong? Again, goes to show that with some careful thought and experimening, you can still recreate shallow (limited) dof even on camera phones.
  16. Just some photos taken using my 3.2mp nokia phone... I think I should just switch to camera phone... so ashamed tt I'm producing lousy photos using my dslr. Camera phones aren't tt lousy eh?
  17. It's about there... I asked ard couple of months back, can check the posts. Normally a faster flow rate results in faster chilling time. Follow the recommended flow rate.
  18. woo! congrats to u! Hopefully the females learn from the male then btw bro digiman, what's your tank temperature range? will the warmer waters shorten it's livespan? tt was one of my main considerations actually...
  19. lol I'm gonna get a feeding clown goby in future... save all the hassle right hellbliss?
  20. same same... in my dictionary, YCG rates a DIFFICULT in getting to feed. lol
  21. Feel free to add in your own tips! Improving Camera Phone photos 1. DON'T ZOOM! Our camera phones do not have optical zoom. Therefore, zooming in / cropping your photos will degrade photo quality. 2. Choose the highest quality setting possible Don't degrade photo quality. Camera phone photo quality aren't great to start off with. 3. Keep your lens clean Some camera phones do not have a lens cover. Clean your lens before taking photos with a soft cloth. 4. Experiment with White Balance Most phones have limited functions, if you have control over white balance, it will be good to adjust to compensate for the blue lighting. 5. Don't fidget Lean against the tank wall if you can't keep your hands stable, or prop the phone against a table/stool. 6. Allow for camera lag Most cameras have a lag period from pressing the shutter and the actual shot. Do not move till the process is completed. 7. Take multiple shots You can never get enough shots. Take at different angles, different lightings, different composition. Be creative! 8. Don't use flash This is true for any aquarium photography. Flash creates a blownout, flat and unflattering photo. 9. Post process your pics Do simple editing on your pics to correct colour and exposure problems. Most cell phones come with photo editing software or you can use photoshop, picasa, gimp etc. 10. Treat yourself to a better camera. UPGRADE! In today's world, P&S cameras come cheaply. If you have the budget, go dslr!
  22. and it's a deep deep deep water fish... lol I think he's keeping temperature ~ 23 degrees. Can get more pics of them in action bro? I'm sure everyone wants to drool more over these beautiful fish.
  23. 1. Might want to consider building blinds/curtains or something to block off direct sunlight? Advisable to do a closed lid to prevent rainwater from going into tank. Spoil salinity, or worse introduce some unknown chemical into tank. Lastly, need to protect all electrical devices. Don't want to short something and trip your house everytime it rains. 2. Chengai wood for better durability especially with your weather conditions. 3. Find a reliable tank maker and trust his recommendations. 4. As mentioned. Atlantic glass industry is another one.
  24. Henry's reef gourmet is indeed v. yummy! But I find that my skimmer goes into overdrive everytime I feed his food. Feed sparingly! Your tank cannot afford to feed like how henry feeds
  25. lol I don't know how you keep your glass spotless. I clean everyday nowhere as clear as yours.
