Just to add, some coverage on this publicity stunt by HTC. http://www.razor.tv/site/servlet/segment/m...news/38044.html don't know how to embed non youtube videos. anyone knows how to do it?

You can actually hang it outside the IOS? Not sure of your IOS dimensions, but if you give them to me I can make a quick measurement to see if it's possible. With your budget, your best bet would be to camp at pasar malam to find a good used skimmer if you're not in a rush. I would prefer to invest abit more in a good skimmer than go with some weipro skimmer or something similar.

wow! Wish I was there!!! freaking cool, especially Nobody by wonder girls at the end.

Give a shout next time! Even when I didn't know anybody, when I visit LFS, I try to talk to them, or to anyone whois there looking at corals/fishes. Haven't seen tt many ppl who aren't willing to talk to me unless they are really busy catching fish or something. This is a hobby, and I believe guys will always be interested to share their experiences.

I personally think the idea here is that TS is not getting enough varied answers to his questions - which will be the case because like Jacky correctly mentions, most bros will just skip the thread when they don't feel like responding. Many so called 'newbie' questions have been thoroughly and better answered in the forum, or in other forums. They will provide fairer options to newbies to judge. Likewise, as this thread grows longer, the difficulty curve in reading through everything will increase. As a newbie, I research alot, read alot. But I still wanna ask the same question others ask. Why? For me it boils down to lack of confidence in the answers I find online. Nobody is answering MY question, and because I feel disconnected, I feel insecure, need to double confirm facts, find 'more' opinions by posting the question myself. Therefore it is more personalised, I feel safer. How about another suggestion then? TS can 'organise' some semblance of a LFS outing. Alot of good benefits: 1. Get to know more reefers 2. Learn more about corals and fishes 3. Maybe understand the pricing of these LS. They don't come cheap! 4. Experience the feeling of peering into fibreglass tanks, walking ard in water clogged floors. 5. Ask all the questions you always wanted to ask, and then ask even more 6. Get to know the LFS owners/sales ppl (good in the long run for getting discounts ) 7. Do I still need to carry on? No need to really get lots of reefers, even 1 or 2 will be fine. Everytime I go LFS shopping/visiting other reefer's house, I meet a new friend, learn new stuff, inevitably of course, spend some $$. I think it's healthy interaction, and it all starts from here, SRC

lol someone selling his mce600 with rsm at a good price. You can see if he is willing to do seperate sales. But price below 100 is definitely not possible for deltec. A quick search on the mce600 and you will know that it is a mid budget skimmer producing good results for its users (Price of getting a new unit should be 500-600+). It is a hang on back skimmer. Don't know if it suits your needs, but basically it's a good investment. Wish you all the best in your search!

neatly hidden from view! Just wondering your connection would be 1st chamber>>>refugium>>>skimmer>>>return? Woiuldn't that kill your pods? I'm asking coz actually planning a refugium, but have lots of conflict over where to place the skimmer. That's why all plans are on hold at the moment.

Great looking article! haha I will slowly digest it later though... one of those wordy ones...

bro can just enquire on the dimensions of your IOS? edit: would be good to see a picture of your IOS at work Like your placement of skimmer comes before or after the refugium?

Bro you have PM -
lol it really depends alot on your camera's metering/sensor ability. In auto mode, my gf's 350d has v. good saturation on blues, but has lackluster reds and greens. While my d60 is the opposite. Even after playing around with all the white balance modes, you might not get the perfect shot you want. Tt's why I posted a v. quick introduction to post processing. Following this workflow, it takes me on average 5-10min to load my photos (typically take 30-50 shots at 1 go), pick the ones I like, and eventually post process all of them. A v. simple flow that isn't too time consuming nor hard to learn! I'm sure an extra 10min of your time isn't too troublesome right? I actually take more time posting them on the forum than editing the photos...
-
Someone once told me when I first started out: Shoot RAW at all times! That way, you can correct exposures and white balance later. I never quite followed his advice... found it a hassle to shoot photos that were 7-8mb big. Guess I should start doing it.

Found this great tip while browsing through SRC. Top-down photographing techniques and equipments for corals in a reef aquarium This article will explore some of the cheaper options that will allow an aquarist to take stunning top down pictures of corals in the home aquarium with both simple point and shoot cameras and the more expensive SLR cameras. The common denominator in these options is to provide the ability to shoot pictures from below the water surface, thereby eliminating the effects at the air water interface that lead to picture distortion.

Would like to add some websites for all who are clueless and would like to find out more. As newbies, we all have lots of questions, hope these readings help answer some of them Tank Glass or acrylic? How deep? What shape? Sump??? Filtration What filtration do I need? Water change? Protein skimmer? Algae scrubber? Water circulation Gas exchange? Surface agitation? Returns to tank? Substrate Bare bottom? Shallow sand bed? Deep sand bed? Plenums? Miracle mud? Temperature Temperature control? These are not exhaustive, but should give you plenty to read up on. There are many differing views out there, so impt not to treat this as your bible, but as useful knowledge.
