  1. I guess it can only be mount sps?
  2. better make sure those 2 are the only crabs in your tank... Should try to get rid of all of them in your tank... irritating buggers.
  3. For daily monitoring when away from work, I think it's ok. You can rush back to rectify the problem. If away for holiday, no matter what million dollar backup system you have also not enough. Need someone knowledgeable standby to fix the problem. Otherwise kena sms ruin not only your tank but your holiday.
  4. coral or no corals, my temperature is at 27-28.5, which is considered quite high already. In fact, if you are keeping deep water fishes, might have to set lower to ~25. I know a bro here keeps his temp at 23.
  5. Gravitational feed can, install a valve on your overflow pipe to control water level. Bro your tank is 3.5x2.5x1.5. How come no supports in the middle of the cabinet ah? Mr Chew confident those 4 legs able to withstand ~400-500kg weight? Just wondering... I'm mo carpenter.
  6. Mandarin better don't buy so fast unless it's feeding. New tank not enough pods for it to survive.
  7. Hint: There are only 2 whale sharks in this forum. I love xenias! But I might belong to the 1st grp of hobbyist Reefcorner identified... Hope the xenias do well in your tank!
  8. Actually no need to buy an ELOS tank to get the ELOS look... If you search hard enough, will be able to find a whale shark member's ELOS look alike tank built at a fraction of the price.
  9. I think this is going to be a v. interesting tank... heh can try calling AM to see if they can bring in the product for you since they carry Nature's Ocean. I believe you are looking for Samoa Pink Live Sand. wow reefpack summore! Sounds great! I'm sure Jacky shared many of his learning points with you
  10. They should have been v. healthy when you first got them... so I wouldn't worry too much for now. Tempt them with food over the weekend. Since you just fed them and they might have been stressed after WC, no point trying to feed them now and dirty your water Chill!
  11. no!!! cute small crabs can quickly turn into a nightmare as they spawn all over the tank and start disturbing your corals and start eating your corals. Or worst still some monster looking worm preys on your fish!!! Best is to leave them out of water in a bucket for a few hours. You will find all sorts of creatures starting to come out, drop to the bottom of the pail. Freshwater (RO/DI water) dip and Tropic Marine Pro Coral Care dip. TMPCC is abit harsh on corals, might not want to do it tt often although I've never had any coral die on me due to dips. 5min in FW normally does the trick. More to prevent introducing flatworms or other forms of hitchhikers into your tank.
  12. +1 Even with high tech controller with whatever email or sms module to alert you, no power=no alert...
  13. Don't expect them to open 24hrs lei... your LED quite strong also. My rhizo prob only open 16 out of 24hrs. Suns even lesser, prob 12 out of 24hrs.
  14. Feed mysis la bro... nano cannot afford to make mistake...
  15. try aerating your new water for 24hours before adding to bring up the ph next time? Actually if you want pistol to park somewhere visible can force him to relocate and cut a small pipe and push into the sandbed for him to 'adopt' as his home.
  16. Some discussion on UPS and other alternatives can be found here: http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...1421&hl=ups
  17. I've not kept copperbands before. But I think copperband eating on aiptasia is a hit and miss thing. If you're lucky, it keeps them under control, if you're not they don't do anything at all. When they are acclimatized to tank life and feed from the hand of god (yours), they won't have incentive to go forage for food. Then when you start to starve them to force them to eat your aiptasia, they start picking on all your corals. Not worth the trouble, tt's why I don't get them for aiptasia control. Joe's juice or any other proven aiptasia solution kills fast. Don't need to wait and pray for copperband to eat tt aiptasia before it stings my corals. Just my 2 cents.
  18. lol dun sound so old la... Anyway, just to cheer you up. I also read before tt changing water when the fish are sleeping is beneficial coz less stressful for them as they will all be hiding in the rocks already.
  19. btw, a ph swing of 0.2 within a day is considered the limit fishes and corals can tolerate. A ph swing of 0.4 like yours within 2-3hrs last night... can be disastrous. If your sps survived, should be lucky le. I'm not sps keeper, but I believe they are sensitive to ph swings too.
  20. Hope they are not flatworms... if possible take a photo to ID? anyway if you did proper acclimatization, I would assume the high fin died from the wild ph swing. If not, the ph swing would have exacerbated the process. I try not to do water change within 2-3 days of introducing new LS. Don't want to stress them too much. Even when water changing, need to check your new water to ensure parameters are about the same.
  21. !!! how come so fast up lorry From Henry's should be well acclimatized and feeding well right? hmmm cause of death? Hope you acclimatized them well. Pls share with us the cleaning of your tank walls, after you have recovered from your late night. Coz I am thinking of going acrylic for my next tank... Laptop have to consult my future CEO... she's the one tt has all the requirements... lol
  22. *gulpz* Doesn't the grissingeri have a white body? jkjk... they are slow eaters, but not tt slow... prob caught something else, maybe some leftover food?
