Bro care to elaborate what do you mean by 1? Normally anything more than 0.1ppm is considered very high and undesirable in our reef tanks. 1ppm!!?? It will be uninhabitable to anything u keep!

You will have to check NSW for their parameters, Synthetic salt mix offers more constant parameters. Of course mixing the saltwater yourself also requires more effort. Feed less, add phosphate removing media like goodby po4 or rowaphos to control po4.

That's not a good trait to have in this hobby bro... But to answer your question, yes I have seen some people who have 'quick started' their cycling process by using the following: 1. NSW 2. Quality cured live rock (preferbly has been curing near your new tank to prevent die offs) 3. Live Sand 4. Huge dose of bacteria culture 5. Allowing tank to stabilise for 1-2 weeks, with constant parameter testing. I wouldn't advice doing this method for newbies w/o experience. However, if you insist in continuing, you will still need to exercise patience in adding lifestock into your tank. Throwing in 10 tangs straightaway will still shock any 4ft tank, matured or not matured. I have seen alot of newly set up tanks that look really beautiful right after startup. Owner populate the tank immediately with corals and fishes and it looks great for the first few weeks. Then suddenly fishes start dying, corals start melting. If you don't have the patience to wait, then don't start. End up wasting $$ and killing innocent LS. Research more and learn more about this hobby and u will find it a rewarding one. Just my 2 cents worth.

Bro u are really impatient. How many fishes have you added? What fishes are they? If your tank is not properly cycled, u can be sure to lose most, if not all your fishes. Ammonia and nitrite is extremely toxic to most fishes. If you don't intend to listen to our advice, why bother even posting in the forum?
-
The problem with many of us is we drop in the dead prawn, or in your case dog poo and expect our test kits to register an ammonia/nitrite spike immediately. Bro, it's only been 1 day! But then again, we really have no experience with dog poo. lol I would suggest dropping a market prawn coz u start seeing it decompose in front of your eyes. Then again, I heard of people peeing into their tanks. I guess dog poo aint tt extreme!

the normal cycling process takes 4-6 weeks. You should be monitoring and tracking your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels to assess when your cycling process is completed.

Time to upgrade, but need advice

Welcome bro Just some thoughts: 1. Your new 2ft still won't be big enough to house 2 Orbiculate Batfish. You might want to consider letting them go. 2. Having 2 forms of mechanical filtration is redundant. I would suggest just using the filter sock. Whatever your filter sock is unable to filter out will still pass through the wool. 3. What are dead coral frags used for? bio filtration? With a limited space, I suggest just getting a pack of biohome. Efficient, and space saving. It is definitely more porous than dead coral frags, and thus a better media for colonizing bacteria. 4. If you have not bought your 3 skimmers, I would suggest just save the money and get a proper skimmer. Why waste $$ on 3 lousy skimmers when you are going to get a better one in future? Anyway, a decent skimmer isn't tt expensive, you can always purchase used at our pasa malam section, there are quite a few good deals out there now. 5. What water are you planning to use in your new tank? If using salt mix, you should still complete cycling of tank the normal way. I suppose you will be transferring the water from your old tank to the new tank, and suggest topping up with NSW. There should be minimal dieoffs, and you should dose bacteria into your new tank after the move. Do replace the dead coral frags in phases to prevent system crash. I highly recommend using biohome, dead coral frags not only look unsightly, they will also probably dirty your sump with residual sand. -
After sales service is v. important to me for long term peace of mind. That's why i tend to go to RD, RB or Iwarna if I need to purchase anything as I've had good experiences with them and IMO, they have good feedback from many reefers. I'm sure many bros here also have their preferred LFS, and so long as you are comfortable with your LFS, should stick to it. And great piece of mini review of your new purchas Clee! I think you have done v. detailed research before reaching your skimmer decision and kudos to sharing it with us. Looking forward to more reviews on your new toy, and I think I speak for many who would like to know the quality and performance of this new pump/skimmer, and after sales service (not saying it will, but just in case murphy does strike)

I did a search on "Fowlr temp" and guess what it returned? Somtimes there may be higher traffic in the forum so your thread gets missed out. Some ppl may view your thread but don't want to answer for fear of giving wrong answers, or other personal reasons. Like you have prob viewed several threads, but do you always hit the reply button? I have always maintained that generic questions can be found easily from google and this forum. My real advice is to do the search yourself and if you have further questions from there, post on the forum. This way, u may get more constructive responses.

can try baiting him with a cut out coke bottle at his fav eating spot, with some food inside.

Sand collected. Thread closed.

I guess there's no such thing as never, but it's rare to see a boxer attack healthy fishes. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but you can monitor them for the next few days to see if yours are indeed a 'mike tyson' shrimp

Have a big bucket of Live Sand to give away. Enough to fill 2-3" of sandbed for 3ft tank. Pls bring another empty bucket to exchange. FCFS, preferbly collect by today.

Suggest you post a pic of your fishes to better ID the disease. and read this on proper hypo treatment. and this if you wanna dose copper.

Boxer shrimps also perform cleaning duties in the wild. In your tank, they are just so much more fun to watch than cleaner shrimps imo. Although cleaner shrimps will set up cleaning stations initially, once they get used to captivity, they will most likely be racing for pellets or anything you drop into the tank to your frustration. Not only do they not 'clean' your fishes anymore (which isn't a cure for ich in the first place), they will start stealing food from your corals. Like I said, you are much better off with your coral banded shrimps now. And coral banded shrimps do not eat or attack fish. That's a terrible misnomer.
-
DD H2O for me too. Good parameters and they finally changed their bucket design so the handle doesn't break as easily. go for it!
-
Sorry to OT man... If you can't find one, can consider asking atlantic glass to do one. Budget shouldn't be too exorbitant.
-
why do you want the cleaner shrimp in the first place? Even if the hawkfish doesn't pommel it (only applicable to some), the boxer shrimps will do the job. I would just stick to your 2 coral banded shrimps and hawkfishes. Cleaner shrimps don't rate tt highly in my tank anyway.
