  1. Think 1 flamehawk enough la, there are plenty other nice and cute fishes out there too! hmm the best is to create some overhangs in your rockwork to allow for low light corals to have a place in the shade.
  2. It won't kill all the bac and go to the extent of making your life rocks dead. Tt's why it's impt to go through the cycling process to ensure your bio filtration is properly set up.
  3. oh my... I can 'see' you sitting at the side of the cabinet having a meal and just staring at the tank!
  4. Of course, there are some minor peeves that I have to put up with... Peeve #1: Hard to reach into the corners of the cup when cleaning. This can be easily solved with a cleaning kit/cotton buds. Peeve #2: Microbubbles sometimes still leak into my main tank. V. small amt tt I have come to live with. I understand that this model might be upgraded soon as Deltec looks to improve on its skimmer range. No matter, this is one great little mean machine!
  5. I have been seeing a few ppl enquiring on HOB skimmers, and a few recommendations on Deltec's MCE 600. Also have some friends here in src asking me how I find my MCE 600 after running it for the past 6+ months. Decided to post a short 'review' of this popular HOB skimmer based on my experience. I'm not much of a review person, so <Disclaimer> this is not gonna be an objective, step by step review. You can easily google it and find an excellent review of it by Gregory Schiemer. Most ppl are only interested in a direct answer on Why should I get myself a Deltec MCE 600??? here's why... Skimmer was last cleaned 4 weeks ago. So this 'kopi kao' is 4 weeks old with moderate feeding in a 3ft sumpless tank. The skimmate i wiped off using my index finger is approximately 10-15% of total skimmate (on a conservative estimate). My Verdict: IT STINKS LIKE HELL!
  6. bro u dialed correctly? I just tried, it's still running. 96959086
  7. I think this is one instance where I truly prefer to get from reefers unless LFS has a v, nice shaped rock. It's cheap and safe. No such thing as a 2nd hand life rock. If it's life, it's life, if it's dead, you can smell it from a mile away. Glad you found this forum. Purchase more rocks to allow enough bio-filtration and let your tank cycle for the next 4-6 weeks. Take the time to find out more about this great hobby! We should have lots of materials here in src for most of your questions.
  8. Sad to hear tt. Don't give up bro! Did you acclimatize the fish properly when you added it in? did you check your other parameters? Most fishes are not tt hard to keep.
  9. Hey Jackly, how come not changing back to Maxpect? The fans still have not been fixed?
  10. practicing proper quarantine procedure goes a long way in ensuring your fishes are fighting fit when added into your main tank.
  11. We have quite a few new nano reefers here recently, can check out their threads to find out more on stocking/equipment or other qns. You will also prob want an auto feeder to feed your feeds on weekends when you are not at office.
  12. If yours is a new tank, it's prob new tank syndrome. Let it run it's own course and the diatoms should clear within 3-6 months. If it's an established tank and you have already reduced feeding/lighting period, just means your bio-load too high. Time to sell off some fishes.
  13. bro don't say tt. Lots of other nicer tanks ard. I just try my best to learn from them also. If you are interested in getting the LED strip from Vincent, remember to tell him you want the 'deep blue' effect to get the fluorecence. Otherwise he might assume you want the 'more blue' one tt has a higher PAR rating. I sound like I'm talking gibberish, but yeah, tt was how I communicated my requests to him
  14. lol slow, small, and start off with cheaper/hardier LS. Gives you the chance to get the experience before moving on to the more exotic (and ususally more expensive) stuff tt you wouldn't wanna lose. Heart pain+wallet pain = lousy combination
  15. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...4355&hl=led I also have some pics of it setup in my tank thread, can check it out. Prob ard page 30...
  16. Theoratically yes. Faster flow, means more water gets chilled in the same amt of time. I know some reefers prefer to have max flow through their chillers. btw, changing water from your sump will be less stressful for your fishes.
  17. I'm currently using 2 strips from our sponsor, Vincent @ Aquarium Artist. V. beautifully done, especially with the custom made acrylic stand.
  18. wow this is really built for the nano crowd! Looks v. much like a desktop nano tank now!
  19. If you only want T5 for the blue, then stick to aquablue. Reefers normally use actinic tubes to get luminous colours out from their corals, but the effect lasts for maybe 1-2 months at best? After that, don't really see the fluoresence anymore. The other option I suggested is to do away with T5 altogether and get 2 royal blue led strips to supplement your MH. Typically gives you a deeper shade of blue, and reefers love the royal blue effect, which is similar to T5 actinic. Just more stunning, and it lasts as long as the LEDs last.
  20. hmm bro I strongly suggest against using the 1/10hp as you will find it insufficient for your 3ft. I was also considering the 1/10hp for my setup, but was persuaded against it. Most of the bros using the 1/10hp here are nano tank keepers with total gallonage almost half your tank size. If budget is a concern, I would rather go for a cheaper brand like Hailea. This way, when you got more $$ in future, can get the arctica. Hmm? if Maxpect is only 40cm, how to cover 90cm tank?
  21. lol I guess so... BK la... super quiet.
  22. oh no... I hope they survive too bro. I always thought yumas were more powerful than zoas, will have to watch out for them in future.
  23. wow bro you got the new Deltec skimmer! Great choice! Believe you will be one of the first few here to be using this skimmer, do give us a review on how it works! Sounds like an excellent build you have there. Looking forward to your pics. btw, chiller is 1/10hp? Sounds alittle underpowered for your tank size. Think you should be looking at least at 1/5hp or 1/4hp. Edit: I believe Justin's Maxpect is the new 3ft series that Razali is bringing in, looking forward to tt as well!
  24. The most common form of preventing rust is to coat with a layer of oil/paint.
