Will definitely be looking forward to your build You are right, to reduce the heat indoors, you can hook up a drop in coil into your sump and hook up to an external compressor outside the house. I believe it's more efficient and the heat generated will not be felt in the house. Choice of efficient lights, pumps, skimmers, wavemakers will drastically reduce the wattage and heat generated in your tank, and hopefully lower your utility bills. LEDs are a good investment. Red dragon pumps are known for their efficiency, skimmers can check out the new Deltec series. Wavemakers can look at Vortec. Just throwing out some ideas. (I know you actually said equipment later )

Don't do that. Cruel and unnecessary. Anyway even if keeping fowlr, you might wanna considering some way to cool down your tank temperature. Hot season's coming up, you can expect your tank to hit >32 degrees if there's no chiller/fan installed. Add in the heat generated from your pumps... not advisable bro. Chiller is always a good investment.

I might end up keeping my lightset+ led supplement as spare... You never know when you will need it just in case! Just persevere and you will prob find a willing buyer? I think it's a good price an almost brand new light set!

omg bro why never tell me 1 week earlier!!! It looks pretty neat actually. Any idea what are the flow rates like?

WB bro! haha think SRC misses you too Just came back from RD with some new purchases... sigh my credit card company confirm love me alot...

Bro they always say the bigger, the easier to manage the tank. Reason being v. simple: The peppermint shrimp die in your tank, can lead to a sudden spike in ANN (Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) and cause your tank to crash. The same peppermint shrimp die in a 3ft tank, no worries coz the water volume is larger, more bacteria etc. Sometimes if you start pico and fail, then get demoralised coz marine is too hard to keep. Other times you start too big tank, then get demoralised coz marine too costly to keep. lol I would recommend looking at Bino's tank thread. Think it's a comfortable size to start off with. Price is abit steep but you can always use less powderful equipment to save $

Structurally, HDB will not allow you to build 8ft tank. If staying in landed or condo, also should check if your floor is able to take the heavy weight load. 8 footer is definitely gonna be beautiful! I hope you are prepared for the additional electricity costs in chiller, lights, pumps etc. Monthly utility bills will definitely shoot up. Anyway if you ask me, it would look quite weird if you have a partition to seperate btw the fowlr and reef tank. Why not do 2 seperate tanks and connect them together so they share the same sump? lots of opportunities to be explored here. Ray: I know tt tank! that was exactly what I had in mind

Did you acclimatize it before adding into your tank? Inverts don't do well to major parameter fluctuations or poor water conditions. Damsels are alot hardier compared to shrimps. Not true to assume that water parameters are ok coz damsel is doing well. Yup, alot of constraints when keeping small tanks, even more when keeping picos. If you have the budget and space, can consider going at least abit bigger like 1.5ft cube or 2ft cube.

Lol errm I'm just thinking of Siang... You just need to do water change from your sump will be good enough. Some ppl use DSB, others use mud, others go BB (with cheato of course). Actually up to you, all are feasible.

Lol, try not to dilute your sales thread, but it seems that someone's half convinced to upgrade lights already!

clam dominated tank! That could be a first! Looking forward to lots of top down shots in future. Haha anyway, can give us some indication like tank size so we can recommend what LS suitable? What has caught your eye so far?

don't mind me saying... he looks more like a dog S-sniffer than some trooper...

Congrats on your new tank Patience during the setting up/cycling period pays off in the long run! Anyway there was a bulk order done previously on a custom build algae scrubber. Can see if you can contact the same maker to do another bulk order. Not sure if iwarna still sells their custom built scrubber too, can check with Victor. Do remember to set up a thread to show us your new tank!

Bro that's a pico tank. If you have the $, can consider iceprobe. Can check them out at reefdepot. Otherwise, I highly recommend just using fan and topping up everyday. Since it's such a small tank, I also suggest doing 1-2L water changes bi-weekly for nutrient export.

Bro care to share what happened to your tangs and how are your previous problems on algae growth? Reading through your posts make me feel as if you just keep adding stuff w/o care on compatibiliy and constraints of your RSM. I would love to be proved wrong, but I venture to guess that fishes and corals end up dying in your tank over time and you just go out and spend more $ getting more fishes and corals. I do hope that I'm wrong. HTH

Lol, brought back the balance.

After nearly 10 years in production, ORA’s Red Goniopora is finally ready for release. This beautiful LPS coral is bright metallic red and has brilliant purple centers. It is truly 100% aquacultured and is considered to be very hardy. Red Goniopora tends to be an aggressive coral and when placed near a competitor it will supercharge its tentacles with nematocysts which will give them a white tipped appearance. Hope to see them in our LFS soon too!

If you are on budget, use a pc fan instead. Remember to account for evaporation and top up with ro/di water.

Need to get 2 Aquabee pumps for my new sump, refractometer + magnet cleaner for replacement... Think I can only afford the tunze magnet cleaner. Magnavore too hardcore. Anyone wants to go along? I'm prob reaching ard 6.30 tonight.
-
Hmmm should be fine la. Just pour in 1 cube of mysis and they can eat till their hearts' content!
-
haha for yourself you mean? gonna pay RD a visit tonight... another wad of cash out of my pocket... sigh

Holy mama! Not much news on this 'new design'. Just a post of this teaser pic on Elos RC forum... Whatever it is, definitely looks good.

same for me. Overnight does the work. I remember reading somewhere that you don't want to add too much epoxy at a time into your tank, might have harmful side effects.
