  1. Forgot to ask you, how thick is your tank? If space is tight, don't put LR in sump, use maybe biohome or something similar that helps to save space but still provides for bio filtration. Can buy from more major LFS. The hydrometer reading might go up abit when the salt dissolves completely.
  2. Koji, your juv batfish taken from my iphone. Beauty! and it's feeding from your hand somemore! Sorry for the lousy quality photos...
  3. Its good practice to acclimatize corals, especially the fragile ones that don't ship well. I normally don't acclimatize most of mine though.
  4. Yeah, will keep tt in mind. Mine got no holes for fishes to hide in! Wow! Koji, v. long never see you on forum soon! hahaa I can't change my title lei...
  5. Welcome to the community! 1. Someone once told me the skimmer is like the heart of the tank when I first started out on my tank. I find this quite true. A skimmer helps break down some organic compounds before they start decomposing and go through the ANN cycle. Although you are keeping a fowlr and it's relatively ok to have higher nitrates, I still strongly advice you to get a skimmer. fowlr = normally more fishes = more feeding/more poop = high nitrates. If on budget, can always get good quality 2nd hand skimmers going at bargain prices at our pasar malam section. 2. Cheato can be bought/given by reefers or our LFS. Yes you can run them in your refugium now. I have seen many ppl adding cheato at the start of cycling w/o any dying off due to the ammonia spike. 3. Lights are mainly run for cheato growth. Live rocks do not require light for bacteria to populate it. In fact when you visit LFS, you will notice their LR are all hidden at the bottom level w/o light. The cheapest LR are usually found from bros decomming their tanks here. Otherwise can try Reborn. CF rocks are typically one of the best quality and most expensive. 4. I use Salifert. 5. Sg still has not hit the super hot season yet! Maybe let the fowlr bros comment on this. I'm inclined to still run a chiller to cool the tank in case it goes above 31 degrees. 31 degrees is like the max for fowlrs if I'm not wrong. And if you start keeping deepwater fishes, definitely need to go below 29. The key here is not how high or how low you can go but how stable a temperature you can provide for your fishes. You can use fans to cool the tank if really on budget, but you would have to top up alot of water everyday, and it's not effective to cool a 4ft tank. 6. murky? as in chalky? what salt do you use? quite normal, but it should settle down overnight. try to run a pump in to aerate the salt mix. There shouldn't be any residue left if you use the better quality salt.
  6. oh yes, that was eeriely fun! Top Gear is simply one of the best car shows out there. You don't have to be a fardcore car fanatic to enjoy the warped chemistry these 3 guys share on screen. Always makes me smile even after watching it a million times.
  7. I think I have not watched their bolivia challenge yet... hw for tonight!
  8. hahaa i used to have all their challenges on my iphone even had the entire special episode of their Vietnam trip. absolutely hillarious! my favourites off the top of my head: Sailing boat challange and part 2 too! truck driver challenge, police car challenge, their supercars italian challenge, searching for driving heaven, gtr challenge etc. omg just impossible to list them all down! now that you remind me, I should start catching up on the current season soon!
  9. omg one of my all time fav shows! do you buy their dvds? Clarkson is downright obnoxious, May a complete pushover and Hammond's a thoroughbred speed devil. I actually signed up for mio tv when they started airing them, was fuming when they shifted over to starhub. Nowadays content myself with streaming/downloading episodes online whenever I'm free.
  10. Haha there's actually a side entrance that you don't need to queue to get in... not alot of ppl know of it wootz! Must start a new thread when ure back and post all your photos
  11. yes I love the louvre! Still upset that I couldn't snap a picture of Mona Lisa. I thought the section was no cameras allowed but all my other friends who went managed to take photos. And the coronation of Napolean too! ok I'm really side-tracking here... enjoy yourself!
  12. Not sure if you're going to be moving the tank and re-setting up the tank too. Wouldn't suggest reusing the sand, or if really want to, must wash thoroghly. No way to avoid back breaking work.
  13. I would suggest not to buy anymore cleaner wrasses. They do not ship well or adapt well to the home aquarium. Since they are still feeding and swimming actively, I don't see any reason to panic.
  14. Watch out for ammonia spike. And I'm not sure how feasible it is to keep your corals at SG 1.017. Good to document for us to learn
  15. If fishes are feeding and still swimming healthily no need to worry. Best is not to add any fishes for the next few weeks to let the fishes stabilise. I'm currently facing another round of ich after stressing my fishes tremendously when I was modifying my tank. PBT's having v. bad bout of white spots. But still swimming happily and feeding ferociously. Just make sure to maintain water quality and monitor for deterioration signs. White spots have subsided quite alot over the last 2-3 days. But best is not to introduce new fishes in the next few weeks to let my fishes stabilise.
  16. V. interesting. Care to share more info on this light set?
  17. Just another round of bacteria growth. Sit it out
  18. To answer your question better, how long has your cycling process been? Did you add any bacteria, fish food, or market prawn to kick start the cycling process? Also how old are your test kits? Are they past expiry?
  19. All are v. good suggestions to reduce tank temperature. But no matter how many of these suggestions that can be employed, they help to only bring down the temperature of tankwater from ambient temperature. Which means there isn't much hope of bringing down temperature below 30 degrees if the ambient temperature is 35 degrees. There are some equipment that are good to have. Others like the chiller, I consider as a must have if you intend to keep a 4ft marine tank in Singapore.
  20. PBT is flaring and chasing his own image atm. Full of white spots... feel so guilty everytime I see him. But hyper active and still feeding as crazy. I hope he shrugs it off like a fighter. Remind me not to get any fishes until his ich disappears for at least 2 weeks! Lol the replica rocks are meant to serve as overhangs for me... so most likely don't need to worry about water movement. I will only rescape when PBT gets well. And hopefully can find a nice feeding copperband as well to add in after the rescape!
  21. Lol bro I don't have the skills to DIY la... Placed the order for a customised overflow box to Ian from I-aquatics. As far as I'm concerned, the overflow box looks slick and is performing up to standard.
  22. Lol I will concentrate on the main tank first... when hand starts getting itchy will see what I can do to this pico Yeah! There is a v. good moderate flow in the 'pico'. Water flowing in from the media chamber, and water flowing out into the return area. And my skimmer inflow from the pico. I don't need to add any pumps in future for circulation hmmm the overflow required a bit of ingenuity actually. Covered one end with a plastic bag tied with rubber band, the other with your palm and invert it into the overflow. Wasn't too difficult at all!
  23. Btw, I measured my 'display sump'. 15"x7"x11". Exactly 5 gallons! hmmmm pico tank idea
  24. hmmm mine was alright, I guess just a few hours without circulation is alright. Perhaps can check with Singapore Power?
  25. hahaa are you kidding me? I thought the wires are pretty messy already... But really lazy to go tidy them up. Anyway my next 'project' will involve these... They are already cycling in my bucket. Hope to embark on it by end of May. Lots of possibilities just playing with these 2 rocks...
