What's your flow like? They prefer low-moderate flow. Your ph is on the high side.

Ca and Mg levels still need to be brought up much higher first... will see how far my wallet allows me to spend first! Just start slow la, like what the rest say, lots of real estate. Just take it easy first. My poor wallet still recovering from my gf's bday!

Desi I half believe you only... lol only because you told me a v. v. nice number. *ding!* lol I'm already plotting my first few coral purchases on paper... !!!

Time to relax, have a cuppa and feast your eyes on some pics of aussie acans I found on the net. For those LPS lovers, put on your shades, fasten your seatbelts and hold on tight to your wallets! courtesy of cherry corals.

It's really not normal yellow lor. look at the pic, it's wysiwyg! unbelievable!! If I didn't have a pbt in my tank I would have definitely bought it. ups for a great deal for a great looking fish!

haha I think one day must open up my house to you guys to help me scape the branches and epoxy them. I am absolutely horrible at epoxy-ing! I like my powder blue too. Too bad can't add a powder brown like yours! the fat exquisite is getting too fat for my liking lol Thx bro! How's your tank coming along? Been waiting for pics for a long time! haiz I think it's more worrying on my wallet than anything else right? lol I already feel the urge to buy corals now that my parameters are under control...

Can you believe it has been this way for almost 4 months??? Sigh... I need to resist the temptation!!! Actually was thinking of 5 bartlett + my 2 lyretails... Is that overkill? lol Hope my pbt gets his colours back. As you can see, not as deep as I before. And hopefully my comet settles down in the nice big cave so I can view him even when he's hiding... Lemon: I see how long more I can tahan this obnoxious exquisite then

Pics of pump and possible controller. Imagine buying a skimmer and being able to tune it such that it runs at peak efficiency at different tank volumes! I think that overskimming is good, but over over overskimming might not be as desirable. (no scientific prove though) Or imagine being able to program the pump to vary it's flowrate to create more random flows in your tank! Way cool

The Stratus water pump made by Vertex Aquaristik is an exciting new Ferrari of Flow which carries the pedigree of the ground breaking Red Dragon water pumps from Vertex partner, Royal Exclusiv. Like it’s kin, the variable speed Red Dragon 3, the Stratus water pump delivers on impressive flowrates with a controllable brushless DC motor block which sets the bar for quiet operation and efficient performance. The Vertex Stratus water pump employs an 8 pole and microprocessor controlled Sine-Wave concept which itself is powered by 3 bi-directional drivers. We don’t exactly know what that means but we know what it can do: integration with the Cerebra aquarium controller, 1-10V control for micro-management of RPMs, custom applications and programs for closed loop applications. Furthermore, the relationship between current and torque and voltage and RPMs means that the Vertex Stratus will be a protein skimming dream with highly accurate matching of the skimmer’s requirements and even possibly automatic adjustment and control of the protein skimmer. With so many other projects on their table right now, we don’t foresee that Vertex will be ready to name a date or price on this little piece of water flow heaven but believe us, you’ll feel the price. http://reefbuilders.com/2010/06/03/stratus-water-pump-vertex-high-rpm-brushless-dc-machine/

Wanting to Start a Nano Reef Tank!
comycus replied to AloysiusMun's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Bro just some thoughts... 1) With your budget I suggest scouting ard Pasar Malam section for good priced equipments. 2) I think a 3 sided crystal glass tank will be quite tough, maybe possible to squeeze at most 1 side crystal glass for your budget. Since you say this is gonna be an 'experiment' tank and you are willing to upgrade in future, can also consider going for normal float glass and save the cost? 3) LEDs are an expensive piece of equipment. Unless you know how to DIY to keep the costs down, the other alternative I guess is the Par38 LED. Aquarium Artist posted the pricing here. As your tank's pretty shallow, you can prob get the 40degree lens, and as the cheapest, is still $138. 4) Does your budget include addictives and other items or purely just tank and equipment? Coz looking at your list of salt mix, testing kits, addictives, food, etc. I think a rough estimate on these items can go northwards of $200. Food for thought 5) No experience with the MCE300, reviews on it has been mixed online. This is where I would like to upsell. If you think you will upgrade in future, get a higher rated Deltec. If you don't forsee yourself going higher than 100G when you upgrade, spend the $$ on a second hand MCE600. It will save you the $ in the long run and you won't be disappointed with the performance. 6) If you are getting a chiller, where is your pump going to be located since you have no sump? Can consider getting a canister filter for filtration and tee off the return to the chiller then back to tank. This way, at least you have mechanical filtration in your tank as well. Consider the min. flowrate required for your chiller and find a canister that can match it. Take into account headloss too. 7) If there is enough flow from point 6) you can even do without a wavemaker. Otherwise I would recommend a hydor nano. Cheap and relatively better quality than those cheap $10 china wavemakers. Lastly, I don't suppose you wil be getting a cabinet for this? Coz the woodwork would cost you extra $$ -
Aesthetics can always be made nicer with enough $ and effort. Actually wanted to ask you have you tested your iodine and nitrate levels in your tank? Vodka dosing requires you to monitor your nitrate levels so you can adjust the amount needed. Iodine is a v. sensitive element to dose. I prefer to just replenish them with regular water changes. You don't want to overdose as it will get toxic. Besides it's not a crucial element to add into your tank at least for now. I would recommend you to monitor your CA, MG and KH levels instead and dose them accordingly. They are more crucial to maintaining your spses.

The clowns are getting v. aggressive. the bigger one kept attacking my hand when I was rescaping just now! I think it's safe to say I shouldn't add anymore clowns... so sad! I was half thinking of adding black clowns... Lol exquisite with yellow belly means what? Mine's already pretty alpha male? still flashing every night... Thinking of selling it actually.

err not really? Iwarna has good biz ethics la, won't get chopped one. In fact most LFS don't chop carrot, the ones tt have a bad rep can leave it to you to find out. Have been well documented in the forum

After going 99% FOWLR for the last 4 months and a whole roller coaster ride of my life later, finally got my act together to rebuilding my reef tank. Tank parameters are almost back to normal too First up was the upgrade of my tank. Changed my lights to LED and added a sump. Allowed my fish inhabitants to settle down from the stress. Phase 2 of my upgrade is almost complete! Added 2 artificial LR bought from GO couple of weeks back that have been cycling in my bucket. Thx to Nigel for specially delievering the beautiful tonga branch to my house too! New scape is to provide more top swimming space. Hope to purchase a small school of bartletts in future, so creating more space for them. Here are some hastily taken pics of my rescape tonight. Sand and detritus have not settled down, so the waters are still abit murky. Can you spot the 2 pieces of artificial LR? I like to call one the 'tower' while the other is the 'hand'.
-
lol well my tank expenditure basically cost more than anything else I have ever spent in my life right now...
-
What are your water parameters?
-
hehe my dream camera body! Cheap enough so I can afford w/o coughing blood, small enough to still carry around but still look relatively pro \ errm I rescaped my tank la...

I love the idea of part 3 of your sump too! Jtb mine is alot smaller Can see alot of thought put into your pet project. Keep the photos rolling!
