  1. Yeah tt's what I thought too. Btw, the chiller came with a flow indicator, and I have no idea how it works. Theres just this blade that spins. I closed off part of the inlet valve to restrict the flow in (just tinkering ard this morning during breakfast). Guess what? it cooled down from 28.5 to 27.5 in under 30min. Weird right?
  2. Collected chiller today! Teco TR15! due to my canister filter which has a flow rate of 1250L/hr before filter media, I had to settle for this with recommended min. flowrate of 400L/hr. It seems I'm attracted to Murphy's... the thermostat n my 2 external thermometers all read different temperatures!!! difference of +/- 0.5 degrees. To make matters worse, it took the chiller (1/5hp, rated up to 800L) approximately 1hr to cool my tank from an ambient temperature of 30 degrees to 28.5 degrees... errm what's happenning!!?? Its sitting in the corner with about 1.5ft of clearance at the back and another ft of clearance in front. Sides are quite tight though... Anyone with experience in Teco willing to help?
  3. wow! tt's one badass pistol! poor cleaner shrimp...
  4. Think we are on the right track here, camera brands and lens are v. personal preferences. I'm more inclined to primes than zoom lenses. Still feel primes are sharper and faster. Of course changing lenses are a chore, but I find the more I shoot, the more I tend to shoot at fixed focal lengths (which are often the 2 extremes of a zoom lens) The in between shots are normally when I'm lazy and am just don't want to take that extra step forward or back So, the Tammy 90mm already comes highly recommended for macro photography, and looking at the beautiful shots taken by the bros here recommending it, I must say I'm convinced too! Maybe will bite the bullet once my wallet recovers from my recent splurges for my new tank... Of course, its the photographer's skill in both reefing and photography that creates these shots. Maybe we could have a mini 'photography' forum to help bros here polish up our photography skills. What better than to show off tt brillant fluorescence from your Acropora or Zoas you have been wanting to capture and share with us!
  5. poll count still quite low, but seems like there are quite a fair bit of Westies here with not much choices for convenient LFS in the area... maybe you can do a more in depth market analysis in future when planning your dream shop!
  6. wow bro, nice looking fowlr err.... & reef tank! hahaa since u already added some corals, why not go all the way? of course, the the coral beauty is not exactly 100% reef safe la, so pray n hope it wun disturb corals
  7. yeah i know... frontal view LHS top 2 rocks are like performing a balancing act! will definitely get some epoxy to secure them... maybe will glue the bridge in the middle too! the rest looks fine to me... actually only made up of a few big pieces of rocks, so the structure actually feels quite stable to me! tried to create many caves, but ended up with only 3 big caves n prob some smaller ones here n there... dunno whether this scaping will have enough space to put some gems! heh went to GO the other day... omg feels like little boy in giant candy store! lol
  8. After 4 weeks, think my tank finally finished its cycling, ammonia and nitrite readings are zero. Gonna start a simple journal here for everyone to comment on my noob tank. New tank done up by Yongshun! V. happy with the quality and build. After countless scaping with the help of my buddy n his gf (she was the 'architect' , we were the construction workers...) finally settled on this scaping... hope bros here can give some constructive C&C thanks! Front Back Side equipment coming up...
  9. i just setup my tank about 1 month ago, still newbie... but in my experience, the cloudiness takes ard 12-24hrs to settle. prob when u wake up tmr, it will be gone more filter wool to reduce the gaps sounds ok to me, normally the sumps i see have v. min space between the pipe n the wool. just my 2 cents.
  10. waah... LS so fast disappearing down the drain... before i reply, all reserve le... lol
  11. bro you should resize your pics for easier viewing can see here for instructions http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...mp;#entry821720
  12. just spoke to Henry from ML, there's a new programmable modular version of LumenAqua coming in 1-2 months time. might want to check that out. Don't know any bros here using this, but eco-lamps from HK also have got quite good response. They have 2 models: KR 91 and 92. KR92 will be coming out in Sept, and is mainly for SPS use while KR 91, the service staff have assured me, is good for LPS with 8000LUX and 300PAR. Any bros familar with lighting here can comment on these numbers? of course the downside is your service centre is in hk...
  13. lol you really know how to tease us... looking forward to your new setup. the tank looks great!
  14. yupz will do it soon... cycling's a real test on my patience! if i do a tank journal, surely will be even more tempted to put in fishes soon! haha for now will just enjoy looking at all the beautiful tanks out in src...
  15. prob too late... what the heck, i'm interested too!
  16. wootz bro hellBliss! really excited for you I'm also cycling my tank now n i'm starting to see super small thingys growing on my rocks... will be following your thread closely to see what the seniors have to say!
  17. hey mr_xxx, hopefully after a break, u can find inspiration to come back into the hobby again! we all need our time outs, i guess now's as good a time to take a breather. I'm sure all reefers will look forward to you coming back stronger
  18. 10mm should be fine. I kiasu, 12mm after my previous tank experience which cracked (8mm), decided to just play safe... As for black or white silicon, its just a matter of asthestics and taste. I personally prefer black to keep in line with my black oyama.
  19. i feel for you bro... my tank also flooded my living room last month... was so demoralised. hope you will continue in this hobby, really enjoy your beautiful reefing and photography skills.
  20. hmm oki, top up $50? mine is almost brand new, bought from AM last month
  21. borrow your thread bro, just wondering, anyone uses Prime to tap water before adding salt mix? Product description "Prime® is the complete and concentrated conditioner for both fresh and salt water. Prime® removes chlorine, chloramine and ammonia. Prime® converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank’s biofilter. Prime® may be used during tank cycling to alleviate ammonia/nitrite toxicity. Prime® detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. It will also detoxify any heavy metals found in the tap water at typical concentration levels. Prime® also promotes the production and regeneration of the natural slime coat. Prime® is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Prime® will not overactivate skimmers. Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water."
  22. lol alot of bros here selling off their lightings at v. good prices have plenty of options!
