thanks bro. The bubble is amazing when I saw it. Never dare to try till "restart". Hmmm. I clean the tank, rescape and change the water by Iwarna. Others just remain. I didn't know cauliflower is hard to keep. I thought jewel is tougher? Will cross my finger and read more on how to care for this beauty. Any idea why the queen is not eating. Is been almost 2 weeks in the tank. I feed them with pellats and frozen brine shrimps. Read from the net they prefer mysis. Where can I get this food for her or any recommendation? Cheers

Hi All, Started a 4 feet tank on May and due to work commitment, have not been taking care of the tank....my bad. The tank was real bad as high nitrate, lots of green algae on the rock and brown algae on the tank. Decided to do something on it after looking at this forums on others reefer beautiful tank.... Great inspiration On April, I purchase this 2nd hand tank from a reefer with built in refigum on the back portion. Initial start up is fun but finding very hard to maintain the correct parameter and nitrate is always on the high side. The back portion is also too small to place a decent skimmer. Therefore decide to "restart" everything. Recently, download a technical drawing(blueprint) from this forums and decided to DIY a overflow pipe. Then I add a sump tank and a H&S skimmer from a nice reefer, clean and brush the green algae and re-scape the rock too. Below is some photo(display tank) i took today Hope it look okie. Please kindly give some comment. Thanks. Side View Angle View Bubble Coral Zoas (Previously I try to keep this, none of them(total 6) survive. Finally this does. Leather Pink Cauliflower Coral Green Jewel Xenia Livestock Clown fish & Chromis (2 pair each) Purple Queen Anthias (This fellow is not eating and always go hiding) Yellow watchman Goby Golden Wrasse Blue Tang (Hippo) That's all folks... Will update again if intro new members. Thanks for watching Cheers

Hi Bro, Here's the photo of the back compartment. There are 4 compartment, "Water IN" > "Filter + biohome" > "DSB (just add plants)" > "Water OUT" Last compartment size is 17" x 4.5" x 18"... hope to find a skimmer to fit the size. For the time being I just place a "life-support system" (old skimmer) to "tong" first. Here's the display shot... PaiSeh.. hope it look ok . Livestock is from the NANO tank Hope to hear from you guys on the skimmer  Thanks

Bro, I dun think is a CR aquarium but the design should be similar. Got it 2nd hand from a reefer who customize it. There are 4 compartment, "Water IN" > "Filter + biohome" > "DSB (just add plants)" > "Water OUT" Last compartment size is 17" x 4.5" x 18"... hope to find a skimmer to fix the size. oh yea... what is Algae scrubber? Care to tell me more? Cheers

Will post some pix ASAP. Need to let the skimmer start work as it is the "heart" of the tank. Actually was considering REEF OCTOPUS after searching from the web. Now will look for more info on both REDSEA & DELTEC. BTW, is the hang-on skimmer is suppose to place inside or outside the compartment?
-
True.... Initial I thought is easy but realize is not after my 8G nano. Decide to get 4' .... too "kan jung" and overlook certain things. Well... just take it as a learning process Somehow troubleshoot is a fun way to learn and getting advise from the experience reefer make us learn more.

Hi there, Need some advise. Currently I have a 4' tank with a back filtration system (purchase 2nd hand) and trying to get a skimmer to support the tank. But due to the limitation space on the back filtration system, I have problem getting a skimmer to fit on the back. The width is only 11cm and end of the year I may need to shift office therefore will upgrade a new tank with sump. A reefer suggest getting a good hang-on skimmer for the time being but will it be useless when I change to a new tank with sump? Ok.. the question is 1. Is it advise to get the sump + skimmer and pipe it to the current tank? Any negative effect on this? 2. Get a good skimmer (hang-on) can be use on the sump in the future? Appreciate some Guru can give me some good advise on the brands & model? For newbies.... PLAN ahead before you purchase... above is a good example for BAD PLANNING...hahahhaha Cheers

Hi Bro, Thanks for your reply. Think I really need to read more on LED and electrical stuff. I read your previous few post on DIY LED. Is interesting and complicated... If really need your help on LED again, will PM you. BTW, any LFS selling good LED that can penetrate 1.5' height?? Please recommend if you know anyone. Cheers
-
Hi Sherman, To be honest, I really dun know I'm totally nut in electrical.. I just check with my supplier on this is his reply. 60 LED Consumption WATT per pc - 11W Current per pc (mA) - 960~1180 Voltage - DC12V Intensity - 420-540LM Base on the above specification, can it penetrate 1.5' (tank height)? If it don't work as what you have mention, can you recommend any good site (layman term) Cheers

Hi Hammy, Yes... Test kit will be the accurate answer to the complete cycle. Hopefully it will be complete by end of this week This time will stock slowly... Start from fishes then to coral. SPS will be last till tank is "power" Will read up more on SPS before jump into it. Thanks for the input.

Hi Hammy, I'm relieve Think I need to be patience on the marine hobby. Thinking of shortcut but it seem possible. If miracle happen in another week..... ammonia and nitrate become 0 and nitrate from 20ppm to 0 too, can I say the cycle is completed? Never try SPS before and did consider a chiller too but due to the heat produce when kick in, I'm thinking of alternate way as I keeping in office. Weekdays aircon is on, reading for temp is close to 24.5 degree. Weekends reading is 28.5 degree when aircon is off. Lighting is another factor too. I may order a 100cm with 60 LED for the SPS and mount right below the current lights fixture. My supplier quote S$105 to S$120 with Aluminum Housing PCB Plate (waterproof) with 3 CREE chips to 1 LED including shipping cost. According to spec, the intensity is 540-660LM. Is it good enough? Not too sure is it expensive as I still looking for LED in LFS. Cheers

Hello SRC bro, Just an update on my new 4' tank (cycle process) UPDATE : 30th May 2009 Specification Tank size : 4' x 1.2' x 1.5' Filtration system : On the back of the tank with compartment. FISHES / CORAL / SPS Things had purchase / given by kind reefer. 1. Skimmer with pump. 2. Filtration Media. 3. Test kit - Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, KH, phosphate. 4. Return pump. 5. Mix salt - Marinium Reef Sea Salt 6. LiveSand & DeadSand - given by legendz1987 7. Lights Fixture - Aqua Zonic 4x54Watt 8. LiveRock - purchase this coming Sunday Things need to purchase. (pls kindly input if I miss out anything THANKS - Wave maker - ??? Just a quick question and hope someone will help. I am still in the mid of cycling my new tank (1 week) and I have read from the web "again" on the cycling process althought i been through this process on my previous 8G Nanotank. This time, I did the "seeding" method and the reading for Amoonia, Nitrite and Nitrate are different from the web and my previous 8 Gallon. Standard & Seeding methods - dead prawn - Good bacteria - 50/50 LiveSand / Deadsand - 2 LiveRock (from 8G) - 1 KG biohome Plus (from 8G) - Filter media (from 8G) - Coral chips (inside the Livesand) The break-in-cycle from the web (http://www.bestfish.com/newtank3.html) : Ammonia level rises rapidly to its peak and begins to decline > 0 Nitrite levels begin to rise to its peak and begins to decline > 0 Nitrate level becomes detectable. But now, (*Reading measure on day 4 & day 6) *Ammonia reach 1.0ppm and start to drop to 0.25ppm. *Nitrite reach 0.5ppm and 0ppm. Nitrate reading 20ppm on day 6. Is this normal? Cheers Lostboy

Bro onizuka, I cycle my 8G nano for full 30 days and the time is killing Actually I thought of cycling my new 4' tank using the normal cycling process but the only worry I have is TIME & SMELL. Is bloody pain to wait (been through it before) but that's the best. The main concern I have is the SMELL.... The last time I cycle my nano, the smell was damn bad after intro a prawn in. This time I'm worry as the tank is "topless"

Hi YongShun, Will start to mix the water this coming Sunday. I did try to mix the water this afternoon for my 8G nanotank and I realize is not that easy. All this while I got water from LFS to do weekly water change and today is the first time doing it. I'm using Marinium Reef Sea Salt (given by a Reefer) and tap water to mix it... and only get it right after 30 minutes. Salinity is OK but PH is very high 8.8. Throw in some coralchips and add in more water, after 20 mins, everything is perfect, Salinity about 1.025 and PH drop to 8.2. BTW, what's the cause of high PH? Salt or tap water(is office tap water more acidic compare to home)? Cheers

Found this web site and think is cool. Not too sure it has been post before. Just hope this is helpful http://www.theaquatools.com/building-your-aquarium Cheers

Add sand + rock. Water reach full tank and measure saltlinty to get the correct measurement (1 day) 3. Add good bacteria for cycle process - 10 - 14 days. 4. Test water parameter 5. Add live stock & coral.. :thanks: Cheers Lostboy
