  1. perhaps not getting enough food? when i had a black sun before, the skeleton could be seen when i first got it. but after feeding every mouth every day for a few days it recovered entirely. placement was also in a low flow area.
  2. thairun thairun why do you stay so far away.. like always great frags at very good prices. ups for you bro!
  3. this is surely something that needs to be made aware to new reefers. the small pail or tank to hold fishes is akin to a quarantine or QT tank that should be used for new livestock. however i won't advise the use of a small pail or tank with a pump. i've experimented myself; the temperature of the water in a small container when a tiny powerhead may rise to quite alarming levels. QT can be easily done with airstone(s) to aerate the water. using a small tank rather then a pail allows one to look out for any signs or disease or parasites. if feeding is done, make sure to siphon out any uneaten foods or waste. water changes are also important in the absence of a skimmer to maintain water quality. releasing fishes into the display at night is a very effective method to prevent bullying and additional stress on the new arrival asking shop keepers about purchases works only if the owner is truly experienced and cares more for the livestock rather than the business. there are too many accounts of wrong information to new reefers about purchases.
  4. maybe a red or green monti cap? acros or milles are also good indicators of water quality and light conditions by their polyp extension and colours. i feel 2 hydor nanos will provide better flow then a single larger wavemaker. but it will be quite an obvious sight in your tank. if you can why not go for an mp10 or tunze 6055?
  5. osram should do fine. for the fans, the part you want cool is cold spot on the tubes which is usually at the end where the manufacturers information, logo etc is printed. ATI falls into this category. montis are indeed one of the easier sps, i myself started out with a monti frag. purple on the other hand is not easy to maintain. a variety of factors are needed if not most likely the purple will go brown. good luck!
  6. copperbands will feed on feather dusters / tubeworms naturally so you can't keep trying to protect the worms. whether those larger coco worms will survive i'm not sure. probably depends on the size and appetite of the fish itself.
  7. great i see you managed to make your own fixture personally i would ditch the 6500k and get an aquablue special or purple plus instead. assuming that is done, option 1 will definitely put out more par which may provide a better ability keep light hungry sps as to compared to option 2, but it may be too white for personal viewing and aesthetics.
  8. found half a sea hare in my mp10, the half body moved a little when i touched it i was really starting to like that little guy. sigh.. corals and fishes still doing okay. no nuking yet
  9. turquoise stag sold, dino egg and blue polyp monti left with 3 frags each, sunset, blue polyp acro and superman last frag! the rest still available. collection anytime today (friday) and weekends after 4pm many thanks for all the support so far!
  10. amazing! i didn't know you got so many corals already. hidden dragon
  11. definitely a must see for sps reefers. ups for you bro!
  12. shouldn't be a problem if you keep your sps within the light range
  13. i have a mp10 and i find it to be one of my loudest equipment since it is outside and not muffled in the sump like pumps. if you can afford then no harm getting an mp40. i would prefer an mp40 at 10% rather then an mp10 at 100%. a tunze 6055 would be the most silent but would also take up space which isn't ideal for a small tank.
  14. agreed. the receding has already reached inside the head, not a good sign but this doesn't mean the end either. supplementary feedings may also help. thats how i got my 1 head duncan which was receding all the way till the inside of the head leaving only abit of flesh and a mouth, to what it is now of 3 blooming heads. but took me many months of TLC. patience is key.
  15. all inquiries replied thanks for all the nice words and kind support!
  16. i'd say get as many bulbs as your width allows since you're going sps. preferably a 8 or 10 bulb set. each bulb should be rated 39w for 3'
  17. blue plus is blue in colour. aquablue special is NOT blue in colour but crisp white instead. actinic is more of a light pink purplish when seen with the naked eye. but the effect on corals is different hope this helps
  18. aquablue special still has to most par of all the ati bulbs which is better for the corals in terms of growth. it also helps to sustain corals at the bottom better than other bulbs. for a 4 bulb fixture the best combination agreed on many forums is to be blue plus aquablue special actinic blue plus but this may be too white for some (like me). i swapped my aquablue special for purple plus. as long as the colour looks the best to you i don't think anything else really matters, after all you're the one that's going to be staring at the tank everyday
  19. sorry bro i don't run any white bulbs so can't show you.
