  1. wow thats really sad waste of a nice fish and a golden opportunity for reefers who are genuinely interested ups for a good thread! i feel that it should be pinned in the event it dies down in the future at least it won't be lost
  2. found one! still looking for one more
  3. new skimmers may take awhile to break it (slime up) before it produces anything. some take about 2 weeks some 1 week depending. give yours a little more time your tank is also new thus it may not have enough organics to skim out (yet)
  4. looking for 2 sets of Tom Aquatics Aqua-Lifter pumps. condition doesn't matter as long as it won't die on me after awhile do let me know if you have one for sale!
  5. welcome to this ridiculously addictive hobby! regarding your sump, i would say it is never safe to limit your overflow. its better have temporary noise while you source for pipes than a flooded mess.
  6. collected by a nice reefer to all who were interested
  7. WYSIWYG letting go all the 3 at the front at only $75. all 3 nems are attached to one rock and have been with me for many months now. stable and healthy. the largest one (which is the purple one to the right) opens up to more than 3" in diameter, and the smallest (extreme left) up to 2.5" sorry no separate sales *note only the 3 in the front of the picture is for sale. the nem at the back with the orange is not included* viewing and collection is at tampines do pm if interested
  8. for 2feet lights (24w), no stock for blue special and blue plus. left only a handful of actinic anyone able to confirm this? i just came back form there, didn't see any flame wrasses or achilles. fisheri left 3
  9. performance wise i'm not sure but i would say it depends on what you're going to put in your sump. the HOB will give you alot of space to put other equipments like various reactors or even space for a refugium
  10. 1x very good sized Red-margined Fairy Wrasse spotted at ah beng
  11. from what i know too much air gives you large bubbles which are ineffective in adhering to protein. when you tune the air inlet, you will reach a point where you get maximum skimming with smaller bubbles yet enough air as well
  12. prata collected by a nice reefer thank you for all your interest!
  13. aww didn't manage to get a look at your nano tank the other time but the main tank is indeed superb! the zoas look even better in real life!
  14. wow cool looking sump indeed to solve your additional bend issue, perhaps you could try going with either 45 degree bends or flexible tubings which is even better! takes the additional pressure off your return pump too
  15. i'm not sure if the ballast thing but no water for me. the fixture with the stand is high enough unless you have water splashing about
  16. for a hopar set you could unscrew the side cover to expose the side of the fixture. i did that on mine and used computer fans to circulate air from one side in. the idea is to cool that shiny metal part at both sides which affects the light intensity
  17. the cooling fans help to allow bulbs to peak at their highest intensity. its like what fuel said, if the temperature is too high the bulbs won't run at their best, but it doesn't reach up to a point where it compromises bulb lifespan.
  18. the whole fixture it will run warm, but not hot enough to burn you compared to mh the tubes will not burn out or anything, dont worry
  19. not so much of a bird lover myself but i do stop myself from trying to keep one after reading this book for anyone of calls themselves a bird lover, i'd say that Of Parrots and People is a must read. it talks about the problems birds are in when placed in our hands. a sad yet undeniably strong book to cringe the hearts of anyone who has a relation with birds.
  20. no problem bro you can just drop by for the snails/pods, don't need to buy or anything imo i've personally never seen so much life in the tank before when i had fish. its just shows that fishes, when kept in a glass cage, take in alot more than just what we feed them. whenever we add fishes into our tanks we're doing so at the expense of all the tiny forms of life around it. at the on start it was hard looking at a bare empty tank without anything moving fast and obvious enough to catch my attention. but after ahwile i was more or less 'forced' to look at the smaller things around, focusing more instead of looking at the whole picture. that was when i saw everything and went now i don't know if i can bare adding in any fishes at all!
  21. ahh so far i personally find AM to have the best price especially when they have storewide discounts. not too sure about RD though
  22. on the battle of ATI vs Giesemann, you might want to take a look at par values to see which one is 'better'. ATI Sun Pro 357 Aquablue 336 Blue Plus 311 Actinic 137 D&D/Giesemann Midday 325 Aquablue 324 Actinic Plus 264 Pure Actinic 157 cheap tubes? i don't think there's such a thing. you'd be paying for quality especially if you're talking about these 2 brands.
  23. you can try paying a visit to bro cedric's place
  24. currently reserved for viewing i'll update again on this thread when necessary
