  6. its really great that you read through before jumping into reefing! i can see that you did your homework well nice scaping though there are a few areas which i see to be potential dead spots. maybe you would like to get a stronger vortech or more wavemakers? an mp10 may be too weak for a 3x2x2
  7. smallest elegance i owned so far judging on skeleton but it just gets bigger and bigger photo under ATI Blue Plus and ATI Blue Special photo under ATI Blue Plus and ATI Actinic photo under ATI Blue Plus and ATI Actinic tips are intense blue (even more especially under blue plus and actinic) which i can't capture in photo (shows purple instead) opens up to around 6" in my tank letting go at $55 viewing and collection at tampines no reserving please do pm if interested
  8. wow i'll be following this thread great choice of equipment so far! perhaps you would like to consider vodka for your nitrates instead of cheato. saves space and electrity on the lighting too
  9. great steps bro! i find step 9 is the most important to take note especially once everything else is in place and seems okay though there may be alot of views on the lighting part. i've recently came across a thread on rc that stated reduced lighting schedule led to better sps colouration and growth with quite a lot of people trying and saying it works but its still a new discussion which i'm going to follow for awhile before trying

  11. it may help sustain awhile but for now i'm not too sure. just a note if you're feeding that heavily daily without a skimmer you need to keep an eye on your water quality
  12. yeap i do keep my fishless (for now at least ) pros: - no fish to knock down loosely glued sps - polyps open up more as there's nothing sitting on them, nipping on them etc - i can take my time and do feedings with foods like cyclop-eeze on individual sps - no risk of ever putting your net in to catch anything (cause there's nothing to catch) which may cause unintentional fragging or breaking of sps - i can go open top concept with no fear of any precious fish jumping out and causing you grief when you lose them - the concept of the rockscape now does not need to include free swimming space thus more coral space - nitrates and phosphates easily at 0 - money spent on fishes can be saved, meaning more sps cons: - no fish poo to feed corals - algae (if any) removal may be more difficult - nothing swimming around getting your attention or greeting you when you walk up to your tank - pods become your new best friend as they are the only thing that moves most some of my opinions

  14. selling off 2 frags of hairy mushrooms picture of old colony each frag has ~4-6 polyps, average polyp size about 1.5" in diameter $15 per frag viewing and collection is at tampines do pm me if interested
  15. when i was clearing my fishes in my 2ft, i took out all my rocks in the tank before catching them. the bulk of my corals were sps. with a rock free tank, it took less than a minute before all the fishes were caught and after which the rocks with the corals went back in. so to speak the corals (sps in particular) spent about less than 5 minutes out of water and weren't affected by at all. water perimeters stayed the same too
  16. i have a shrimp in a carpet as well and i believe so that this is how the shrimp gets its food from apart from feedings in the tank. you'd know this green thing is not permanent if you isolate the shrimp for a couple of days. if you do not feed the shrimp this green thing will gradually disappear meaning that it is food picked up by the shrimp
  17. zoas may take longer to propagate compared to mushrooms. i've some small frags which more or less stay dormant for months at the same number and suddenly grow to double the number in a few weeks. good lighting would of course help and with zoas maybe you could have it a 4 bulb set which would just nice cover your 1ft width. good individual reflectors are VERY important, as well as good bulbs.
  18. i was using a modded weipro 2011 for almost my whole reefing journey didn't give me any problems
  19. AM is out of stocks for this light, checked with the staff and new batches are coming in only next year those who wants this new tube do let me know
  20. that was what i thought i was sure it was a sale price not a starting bid
  21. yeap just as terry said they're not photosynthetic and will need all their food from supplementary feedings from you. having said that you may want to read up this thread by advanced aquarist on nps
