as some of you may know, i had some problem with my clownfishes (snowflake and picasso) when i brought them back in Dec 2011. first, they refused to explore the rest of the tank and preferred to spend ALL their time bobbing on the water surface. they completely ignored the RBTA i bought for them and avoided it like the plague. a couple of weeks back, they started to explore the bottom half of the tank but still prefer to host on the water surface during sleeping time.
i have nearly given up until bro mengyang_neo bought 2 baby clownfishes and succesfully host them in the RBTA. i decided to try again...
i devised a strategy to maximise my chance of successful hosting... first to capture them and put into a beta box and then place in the sump tank where there is no distraction. then i will need another anemone since my original one has stubbornly attached itself onto one of my main rocks. i reckon the bigger the anemone, the better since in a confined area, the clownfishes will have not much space to run compared to the main tank...
although the clownfishes were already in my main tank, capturing them was no feat since they were hosting on the water surface. a plastic container in the night while they were sleeping was all i needed. the next day, i went to iwarna to get a small RBTA (they only had a small one) ... if they accept this RBTA, they will appreciate the bigger one in the main tank......
nothing happened..
maybe the RBTA too small.
the next day, i went back to Iwarna and got a common green anemone. at the same time, brought back my black ice clown fish which I had reserved from Fuel some time back.
i released the big green anemone into the betta box and it didnt surprise me when my 2 old timers were trying their best to avoid it. when i introduced the black ice in, i was worried the 2 old timers would bully the new one and stood by to intervene. however, they quickly accepted the black ice and there was no major shoving or fights.
i was REALLY surprised when then black ice checked out the anemone first and started to wriggle in it. it has never seen an anemone before and it was its first encounter. whoohoo!!!
half an hour later, picasso followed suit... double whoohoo!!! :yahoo: :yahoo:
clowns in RBTA. you can see that the snowflake is still reluctant to get near the anemone..
picasso and black ice in the bigger anemone while the snowflake trying to get his BFF out of the anemone.
i thought 2 out of 3 isnt so bad afterall.. haha
