Try to use wavemaker/air bubble (after mixing it with stick till no residue) to salt mix instead of return pump. unless you wanna use the return pump to pump water into the tank to do water change is fine. To maintain you can: 1) Rinse the return pump with tap water and take out impellar to rinse it if you want. 2) After you see residue stained on the return pump,you can soak it in vinegar + water for 1 day and brush it off. hth
