Weekly update -7th Dec to 13th Dec 09

flashers are peaceful fishes that leave other fishes alone, but sometimes will go after other flasher wrasses and fairy wrasses. the two squaring off were probably two males trying to establish domincance. it is not uncommon to see them flashing at rivals or potential mates. all flasher and fairy wrasses are capable of flashing to greatly enhance and/or change their colours. they turn iridescent and shiny and extend their fins. truly spectacular if you have seen it in real life at full glory. that said, flashers and fairys are extremely good jumpers. extremely. jump at the slightest disturbance, which may include u walking pass the tank. -

to put it in layman terms. when too much calcium is added, or if added too quickly, the balance between alkalinity and calcium will shift, and precipitation of calcium carbonate will occur. causing the snow storm effect. this is when carbonate anions precipitate out of solution and bind with calcium to form the insoluble CaCO3. next. spontaneous generation of snowstorm effect can be made happen by the increase in PH.
-
agreed ^ calcium by itself, is alkaline. by saying it is the reverse of alkalinity, makes no sense.

inverts have poor tolerance to high levels of NO3 and copper. if NO3 already cannot tahan, what about ammonia? hahaha

the percentage of them killing themselves before killing any other fish in your tank is very very slim. sixlines are known to kill and harass other fishes relentlessly. super aggressive fish for its size, and will take on fishes many times its size. -
you can grow xenias on your tank wall no problem. they spread fast and grow very quickly, and provide a nice backdrop. xenias can, as ahsiang say, crash for no apprarent reason. but that has nothing to do with xenia disease. they sometimes crash due to swing in parameters or Ph, or from other unknown causes. getting a xenia sucked into a wavemaker is abit of a stretch, and highly unlikely. however, if they do crash, run carbon as soft corals are nasty when dead or dying. alternatively, grow GSP as a backdrop. im doing that now and its really nice. zoas are also another option

Selling some oxides (ID from zoaid), and some green skirt + orange mouth zoas (unsure of ID. looks like a dragon eye variant but far from the real thing). Hacked the main colony and have some lose frags with a few polyps to sell. Here's a picture of the mother colony before hacking. picture taken under 2x t5 white and 2x t5 blue. below are the frags. frags are taken under LED blue light, as i left them in my friend's tank for awhile until i clear some space in my tank (He is using LED, and the white light spoils the colour of the zoas when photographed. using HP camera, cannot set the colours correctly). the zoas look exactly like the one shown in white light. *** please note. the colours of the corals are those shown in the pictures of the mother colony, and NOT in the LED lights. The colours of the zoas taken under LED appear much nicer obviously. please note. pilots and troublemakers with nothing good to comment, steer clear. circled in white are the frags for sale. oxides are priced higher than the other zoas. frag 1 $ 15 frag 2 $40 frag 3 $35 frag 4 $30 frag 5 $25

its confirmed. have bee posted up in the other forum/ -
school projects are fun! haha. ok in that case, pasir ris might have a jellyfish. you can check out ah beng to see if he has any..
-
do you know that jellyfishes are very very difficult to keep? with almost 100% failure rate? they need a special round tank and food. if you are willing to take up this challenge, then jellyfishes can occasionally be found in ah beng in pasir ris, or coral farm in lim chu kang.
