  3. unlikely to find them in sri lankan shipments. L. grabhami found in the atlantic
  4. i posted this before. Semeion butterfly. Still like it! still have not seen it! i like the blue on the forehead and the tail. gives the illusion of a forked tail which no butterflyfish will ever have.
  5. unfiltered tap water may contain silicates which may cause diatom bombs
  6. the face abit scary but the body and tail very nice! colour is great. edit* oo just found out what it is. labrus bimaculatus. where do they come from?
  7. never said it was nice haha! never a fan of nano gobies. especially ugly, nano gobies ._>
  8. this one also another Discordipinna sp. slightly different from the one you posted. the fin is grey and pointed in a different way. think too blur to see.
  9. i FULLY agree with LaW on the lighting. actually, zoanthids like many other clams and corals, are colourful to filter out lighting to their advantage. for example, blue coloured zoas reflect blue light and that's why you see them as blue. so they probably do not need as much blue light as they would like. when you transfer zoas to your tank, the lighting is different. the zoas will adjust their colours to suit your lighting. that is why some zoanthids morph to a completely different colour and don't morph back. the other theory is due to change in environment bringing out stress. thus the zoas either expel zooxanthellae and fade in colour, or produce excess zooxanthellae so much so that the coral appears brown.
  10. Yes adding fishes slowly (to prevent disease outbreak and tank stress) and keep stocking level low w only a favourite select few is the key to success. I really like the following article:Patience is the key to success. It's something that we all know but cannot follow!
  11. Above are my personal comments and preference and should not be taken too seriously. SPS = high maintenance so good luck. No big angels?? A goldflake or regal will be nice to add? No anthias? Bartlets hardy and beautiful.
  12. i actually agree with you on this. alot of articles i read say to copper new arrivals IMMEDIATELY. i find it redundant if there is no disease. what more, coppering a healthy fish might make it worse. but then again, alot of fish we buy from lfs are healthy and seemingly disease free. but put in tank only kena ich la etc etc. so what's the difference then of not medicating in the QT tank. this is something i don't really get. it's like in QT no disease but put in main tank nia all the disease come out. but other than that, qt is fantastic in acclimating new arrivals and getting them to feed properly first
  13. yup. it's not impossible but there's always a risk involved. usually they just kill each other before one morphs. have kept the meleagris females before and 1 morphed into a male too.
  14. ups! urgent to sell. price reduced to $400 for deltec apf 600 + aquabee 2000i feeder pump. bought both from RD.
  15. the 3 jocs at LCK belonged to a reefer before lol. he had a harem of jocs. anyway, can someone explain how to do a QT tank? i have a question. is it u put the fish in the qt tank and then watch for any disease, then treat? or straight away copper them in the QT tank on the first day. anyway, my new tank will be 183 gallon excluding sump. i've already half planned my stocklist and alot of them are very sensitive to disease so i'm thinking of really going for a qt tank. C. joculator C. auriga (red sea variant) C. paucifasciatus F. flavissimus C. rostratus P. multifasciatus S. venustus C. declivis C. rhomboidalis C. lineatus P. marcellae tentatively these are some of the fishes i am going to try to aim for and hope to stick to it as close as possible. only 11 fish. slowly fill it up Trying to go for SPS dominated tank so don't mind putting so many butterflies inside. Many of them are not obligate coralivores and are unable to remove sps polyps anyway.
  16. beautiful. joculator will definitely be on my stock list.
  17. i worse ah.... my floor wooden laminate and it flooded before. under my tank now i dont even wanna think what it looks like.
  18. the shrimp will eat it's shell sometimes. but not all the time. if after a few hours or 1 day, remove it. it doesn't do any harm to leave it in there.
  19. that's coz no one collects them from the atlantic..
  20. have kept a 6ft long araipaima in my grandmother's farm near lim chu kang before many years ago. now it's illegal to buy them i think, but there are still some farms near lim chu kang that have arapaimas. Pasir ris also have.
  21. the max size can go above one inch. 2 inch even. the indo ones are white with blue or pink blothes. the hawaii ones are white with deep purple blotches outlined in yellow. these cost tons more than the indo ones. for the indo ones, it is not uncommon for the blue to change to pink. mine changed colours after many months. not sure why too. their favourite food is linkia starfishes and it's the most nutritious for them. reccomended to feed linkias and nothing else.
  22. not 100%. chances of them fighting each other halfway is higher than chances of one of them turning into a male. and it takes a long time for one of them to morph. but you can try. it's not impossible.
