That is the brand new Cirrhilabrus squirei from the coral sea. it's named after lyre squire of cairns marine. although not described officially, the name has more or less been agreed on. there's one more piece being collected right now and may go to liveaquaria. this species isn't found quite deep, and being in a accessible area with a good collector, we'll likely see more of these in the future.

i have these before. but not bought from LFS. grew out of my liverock.

flawless! i mean seriously this doesn't get any better. such a deepwater fish that's collected 450 ft, and flown to hawaii, then to japan, and it's feeding so well. compared to C. colini which is caught in deep water but not as deep, and flown from indonesia to singapore. but c. colini won't feed and won't even last a few weeks before dying even in the best of care. this shows you clearly that collection plays a HUGEEEE part and rufus kimura and his team are just too damn good at what they do.

time for another reefbuilders update. you got the americans really jealous you know that! one of the best rare fish collections in singapore. well stocked, thought through properly with just as much consideration into the fish. if i were a rare fish i'd definitely want to live here and not anywhere else.

it is not intentionally colorful. at those depths, red appears dark blue or black to help blend in with the deepwater and rocks. only at the surface can one appreciate the red coloration with the white stripes.
