Rare fish alert! Paracheilinus attenuatus x P. mccoskeri. in english, this is a hybrid of the attenuatus flasher and mccosker's flasher wrasse from africa. flasher hybrids are very common but this is the first time i've seen attenuatus coming into play.

Oh really? What was the problem with them? I'm willing to try one anyway.

Hi Fishgeek, if you were looking for black ocellaris, you should look for Fuel. he breeds clowns often and could have some in his facility located at Iwarna. however there were no updates by him or iwarna regarding availability of black ocellaris, so if you wanted one you probably would have to wait a little while. as for black cap basslet, there was one left on saturday when i was there. it is in a small fish room near the storeroom. not sure if it was already sold when you reached there. aunty is very busy usually on weekends as she has to cook and entertain customers. the regulars that help her at the store are very friendly and approachable.

two lesser known but beautiful (in my opinion) australian butterflies. chelmonops curiosus - the western talma. very rare in the trade. it has a sharper head, forehead is less steep and the silver scales inbetween the black bars are centered black. it also has a longer dorsal fin. chelmonops truncatus - the eastern talma. seldom seen in the trade because unpopular, but otherwise easy to obtain on request. forehead is steeper, and dorsal fin is truncated. they require slightly cooler waters but can adapt well to reef tanks with a chiller. personally, i think the western talma is more beautiful because of the longer dorsal fin. but sadly it's rarer and very hard to get.

More pics of Cirrhilabrus brunneus. It was described in 2006 from hiroyuki tanaka's specimen. This species was found in north-eastern Kalimantan, Indonesia, but aquarium specimens were collected in Sulawesi, and also an adult was photographed underwater in Liloan, Cebu. so keep a look out in philippine and sulawesi shipments!

This was regarded as a black color form of Cirrhilabrus lunatus, but was recently elevated to species level. This is Cirrhilabrus brunneus, also from Philippines. This is a totally black fairy wrasse. super unique color.

Cirrhilabrus lunatus from Philippines. The lunatus from philippines are colored differently from japan ones, and may be a new species. but lunatus wrasse is a very variable species on its own. we have never had lunatus come in philippine shipment before, but should be looked out for.

no it is an aberrant. as mentioned before, there are 2 kinds of aberrations. those that will morph and revert, and those that will stay as aberrations permanently. this is the permanent kind. how to tell if a fish is a hybrid? a hybrid is the crossing of two or more distinct and different species. so the fish must possess traits of multiple species to show it is a hybrid. this is a pure 100% looking bicolor angel with different coloration only. since there are no other traits of other species, it is an aberrant. so as not to dilute this thread, feel free to PM me or take this discussion to the hybrid and rare fish thread in the reef fish section if you want to know more. i can show you countless of examples of aberrations that are both transient and permanent.

there are transient aberrants and there are permanent aberrants. transient aberrants are usually fish with very funky and out of this world coloration such as the "koi" type angels. these are often seen in very large specimens of coral beauty, bicolor angels and the midnight angel. also the famous koi tangs such as the tricolor yellow tangs. these will almost always revert to normal, or shift their coloration in our tanks. no one really knows why. transient aberrants include also xanthic morphs and some deepwater morphs. permanent aberrants are those with not so extreme color change and will not revert back to normal. differentiating between transient and permanent aberrants can save you the disappointment of color reversal. this bicolor angel is a permanent aberrant, and not a transient "koi" bicolor. sorry for off topic, but here are some images of transient aberrants that will almost certainly morph back, although not always 100%, back to normal in captivity.

AT is a strong tang with high metabolic rate and need oxygen rich waters. in the wild, they are often seen grazing in surf zones with crashing waves. therefore a tank with strong flow and high oxygen saturation is undoubtedly good for an AT. Dnsfpl tips on keeping AT are all very valid.

Iwarna philippine shipment! Plenty of Genicanthus semifasciatus (Yellow masked swallowtail angels). All females, no males. 8 pieces. Watanabe angels, all small females at least 2 inch. many pieces. Flavoguttatus anthias - 30+ pieces, all very small juvi. rest are assorted philippine fish as per usual.

aberration. there is no hybrid blood or any characteristics to show that it has aything else other than bicolor genes. a nice piece.
