  1. ok assume u did not know from koji or wat. how would u tell the difference? teach us coz i dunno how to differentiate oso.
  2. actually you're right. it does look abit like excelsa. excelsa has narrower bars toward the bottom, modesta more squarish. but then again i've seen so many modesta as excelsa and excelsa and modesta photos.. and if it's excelsa it should appear on RB right?
  3. modesta from japan stocklist is so cheap at only 150 SGD. but what puts me off is the size. 10-15cm.
  4. koji posted this photo in his facebook saying it's deep water jananese roa modesta. then he commented on the photo and said japanese excelsa is very rare. so i dunno what he meant. excelsa is hawaiin endemic right? so i guess this is the "japanese version" of excelsa which is modesta?
  5. Labroides dimidiatus from Vanuatu. a regional colour morph. beautiful.
  6. update on my dinoflagellate/cyano problem. dosed bacteria and ran PO4 even though the NO3 and PO4 read 0. after 1 day, 50% of the sandbed is white now. the dino and cyano are peeling off! just came home today at 7 and saw it. so happy. hope it continues like this.
  7. Hawaii shipment at Iwarna maybe friday or weekend. will confirm again soon. Can expect black tang, achilles tang, flame wrasse, rhomboid wrasse, bandit angel, hawaii ventralis, velvet wrasse, gold flake and others. however all livestock mentioned above subjected to availability and will confirm again when aunty's invoice returns.
  8. your flame wrasses are very healthy and normal, and both alpha males. gorgeous. btw beautiful GSP garden!
  9. majano anemone. it's a pest. kill it. don't cut it or shred it or pull it as it will only multiply faster. inject it with some concentrated calcium solution to melt it.
  10. Perhaps the most famous lazarus taxon, is the coelacanth. lazarus taxon refers to any species that has gone off the fossil map and thought to be extinct for prolonged periods of time, only to be re-discovered again. the coelacanth is one such animal, that have thought to be gone extinct for 70-80 millions years until one was found in Comoros, and another in Indonesia. there are now a handful of specimens discovered and are the only 2 members of the last remanining genus of the mega family coelacanth. Only the genus Latimeria still stands, with 2 species. it's not something that we can keep nor buy. but this is really, the very definition of rare.
  11. yala...but lately all the ones on DD apear to have more rusty blood. the dorsal region so dark.
  12. yet another rusty flame hybrid on DD. flooding the market now.
  13. Pair of white cap and the equally rare Alpheus rubromaculatus shrimp!
  14. Another new one, H. erdmanii IMO both look very similar to melanurus etc.... boring halichoeres. but hilomeni looks very nice especially the female.
  15. new species of halichoeres described. H. hilomeni female and male.
  16. it's unpopular because number 1, they are butterflies. any butterflyfish will instantly be unpopular already. even expensive and well known ones like tinkeri, declivis are so unpopular here. coradion will be right at the bottom list. especially altivelis since it's so rare and only from australia. so it's like really, i can bet you almost no one kept before. but they're very beautiful and like i've said many many times. it's a SHAME none of these fishes are given a chance in the industry just because people have the misconception about butterflyfish. like longnose butterfly, pyramid, prognathodes etc.
  17. why everyone keep saying coradion won't last long? i don't know about melanopus and chrysozonus but altivelis is ok mah? most website say very easy.
  18. agree. hideous. but it's from PNG so i think they hoping that it might have some rare PNG genes or smth.
  19. i like the two coradion in his video. they look very healthy. but the coral beauty and anthias i don't like. but randall is ok lah. not very common and yet beautiful. if he manages to get one into an alpha male like those in the wild, then OMG. gorgeous.
  20. anyway... the lightning maroon clown is mating with another PNG maroon clown but it's not a lightning one. more info can be found on reef builders.
