  1. Thanks Jeremy for sharing videos you took at BH! The squirei is beautiful. The semi angels are iriomote caught at 60m, not Philippine one. Japan caught semi are rare but look no different from Philippines one. I envy your job! It allows u to visit BH often.
  2. Common at ah Beng. U just have to look for it. I see at least once or twice a month. And cheap. 2.5-4 red notes
  3. some pictures from my dimwater tank. again the liopropomas. and a nice healthy helfrichi from digiman.
  4. when black stripe liopropoma loses the stripe, the amount of yellow on the tail is also very different from the other yellow tail sp. they are most definitely two separate species.
  5. a video of my two Liopropoma sp.
  6. why use calcium supplements intended for humans? firstly these are crazy expensive to use long term for dosing. also the pills are 99% inert substances and the actual calcium content is way lower than what is required for clams. human body don't need so much calcium. just buy calcium additives from LFS. a ton cheaper.
  7. rufus and his team can catch personatus, but peppermints and claire are more popular and worth the effort. if they can dive up to 300ft with rebreathers in southern pacific, they should have no problem in hawaii. recently rufus did a deep dive in hawaii and caught Liopropoma aurora, Prognathodes basabei, Roa excelsa and other deepwater fish. but his dive did not yield any personatus this round. hopefully in future he will catch one.
  8. it is sad to hear. Genicanthus have the tendency to inter switch between genders in the tank. and sometimes the reason is unknown. personatus is very hard to obtain now. small ones are even more difficult. but they seem to be much easier to acclimate into captivity. In 2010, a tiny very juvenile personatus was sent to blueharbor. it was sold and has now grown into a beautiful adult female. here is the tank. and here is the fish as a juvenile. it is now a nice beautiful female.
  9. Fishbase has been updated with pictures of C. claire. http://www.fishbase.us/photos/thumbnailssummary.php?ID=59481
  10. Such devastating news! I'm sorry for your loss. Your personatus pair was really incredible. Velvet is really a terrible disease for angels and butterflies. Are you intending to rebuild ur collection?
  11. My apologies. I just realized your forum avatar name is same as your YouTube channel. Welcome dr wing to SRC. Apologies for not recognizing your nickname earlier
  12. So you are Dr. Wing?? That debelius is gorgeous. you keep it with Personatus pair as well as Tosanoides? how are your personatus pair? still spawning? any updates on your basabei butterflyfish? your debelius is one of the least secretive specimens out there!! i hope you can provide more pictures and videos.
  13. Harlequin Goldie's are P. Connelli if I'm not wrong. Purple right? I'm not too sure with te common name there.
  14. Amphiprion fuscocadatus from Madagascar as well as paracheilinus hemitaeniatus. These two are highly intriguing especially the latter. Narcosis I forgot one more fish you have I Africa that is also v rare. Vivieanae leopard wrasse. On the topic of debelius, coralfriend do you know dr wing and have you met him? His debelius is the latest one to enter the Asian market. And while we're on topic, id like to know more on apolemichthys guezei in reunions.
  15. There's Psedanthias connellei and Paracheilinus attenuatus! But I agree. Not as exciting as nearby countries such as Madagascar. Do you have any affiliates or contacts there? There a re a few fish species from there that the world is dying to see.
  16. Yes! That is the kingi x trimac hybrid. There are more images of wild one from Scott michael's book. Rhomboides looks delicious! But fearing ciguatera poisoning in large angels, I may not eat it.while I don't find it particularly striking, one must admit it is a fascinating species. One that differs greatly in behavior from all others in its genus. The triangle pattern is cute too.
  17. Blackburns are nice. I'm not too much a fan of kingi as well. There have been recorded photos of hybrids between trimaculatus and kingi In the wild. Do you have any recollection of this hybrid in S.A?
  18. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia5bMICKopg&feature=c4-feed-u A video of my deepwater tank
  19. narcosis, what are the success rates of kingi in your country. I know the locals do collect it and keep for their own tanks, but all i've known are dead. except for one big one, and the juvenile. do the rest all die the same way?
  20. Interesting. that is how the fish Centropyge narcosis got its name. Richard pyle suffered that condition and woke up surprised to find a bright yellow fish in his bucket. he named it that thereafter. Marleyi is a beautiful butterfly but rare and unheard of here. how is your condition now?
  21. thanks! very interesting. yes jake has a soft spot for kingi as well as peppermint angels. i am not so crazy for Apolemichthys though, although it is a nice fish. No kingi in Singapore. Only Taiwan and Japan has had it before. I'm not too sure if any made it to HK. Digiman could help with that. He knows religiously where all the kingi have appeared in the trade, down to the individual numbers, who has it and current living/dead status. no old woman or marleyi as well. we only have robustus. I like P. marcellae and Paracheilinus attenuatus. Both are african fish, the former sometimes available while the latter almost non existant here, sans 1 specimen.
  22. fascinating! my friend and colleague at reefbuilders, jake adams, recently visited SA and reported waters to be very challenging to dive in S.A. and he was much delighted to finally see and filmed kingi as well as gem tangs in the wild. you catch Chaetodon marleyi. I have a question. Does it swim together with C. robustus and hoefleri in the wild? or are all three living in separate areas.
  23. Amazing! Pomacanthus rhomboides is common in the wild but exeedingly rare in the hobby. it is the only Pomacanthus in the genus to swim in large schools in open water column! which part of South Africa are you from? and are you a supplier?
