means they getting not enuf light, or getting no light at all. coralline algae will turn from purple to white if it kena bleach. that might also be a sponge. anyway, dun worry. its probably nothing to worry about

dun put boxing shrimp. they will get aggreesive and may eat ur clown goby. also, they can grow very big

lucky i dun have this problem. whew. get a sandsifter goby. will clean sand very good. but dun get those sleeper gobies. like orange stripe or blue cheek. they will kill ur corals. spit sand on them. my first elegance died coz of this.

most lava rocks are actually igneous rocks formed during volcanic eruptions. the difference in lava rock and live rock is the chemical content. live rock is primarily calcium carbonate. this is alkaline due to the metal calcium. but i will not go too much into chemistry here im sure none of u are interested haha. lava rock (igneous rocks) have a high content of silicon dioxide. as silicon is a non metal, it forms acidic oxides. silicon dioxide is acidic and thus, lava rock is acidic as compared live rock which is alkaline. this is why most brackish water set up employ the use of lava rock to make the water more acidic. there are a few kinds of igneous rocks. acidic, basic, alkalic and some other terms. the basic and alkalic ones contains alkali which is similar to calcium carbonate rock. however the difference is that the alkali chemical in the rock is not calcium. it is potassium or sodium. these 2 metals are also alkali, like calcium, but it will not help in calcification of water like what liverock does. ok. main thing is, use liverock haha (: i think with ur lava rock, also can. just that live rock will be better. any rock experts here can please correct me if im wrong. just trying to help (:

my oldest zoo is about 4 months. there is not even one new polyp and worse, it slowly become less and less. u are right. perhaps with the increasing number of aggresive LPS like my cataphyllia and euphyllids, chemical warfare and alleopathy inhibit the growth of the zoos. i have read somewhere that LPS and softies are usually not suitable together. maybe if there are eqaul number of each, or if there is lesser LPS, then the chances of growth is very high. i think my tank the LPS population is way over loaded compared to softies. maybe that is why my zoos are dying and my mushies are melting. but then again, there are many reasons. why is it that my GSP and clove corals are growing so well despite the supposed chemical warfare? so there are alot of factors to consider. but i think chemical warfare may be the leading cause. only time will tell
