  1. these are the criteria for AT. big tank. bigger the better. this fish needs tons of swimming space. anything below 4ft IN MY OPINION is not enough. high oxygen saturation. high wave movement. we're talking about waves that replicate the turbulent surge zones in the oceans. low fish load. too crowded tank? Oxygen saturation low, swimming space low, nutrients high, disease outbreak high, you can kiss your AT good bye. if none of the above requirements are fulfilled, your AT will not do well.
  2. I wished i had used grade 0 sand for my tank. i love grade 0 sand. most of my waves are directed at the top for my SPS anyway.. sandstorm should be limited

    1. dnsfpl

      dnsfpl

grade 0 might not be a good idea

mine bb, can see shit swirling :)

  3. wah basket star! rare indeed! 0% survival rate in captivity. even harder to keep than crinoids.
  4. Anyone here is good in metabolic biochemistry? What happens to the R group of an amino acid after the amino group is converted to alpha ketoglutarate? help!

  5. i was looking at the bright blue spots. usually the spots are very small and evenly spaced. this one has big blotchy blue spots.
  6. katherine has many close relatives here. temminckii, balteatus etc all related to ktherine. but the real katherine is very rare and very nice.
  7. that's a terribly brilliant idea!! using suction cups!
  8. a video of my hooded fairy wrasse flashing at the female. the body turns lilac and is very bright. it's not really evident in the video due to the strong lighting but when it swims to the dark area behind the tank, you can see it clearly. or you can watch in 720 or 1080p HD. the colours are just right in the HD option.
  9. a new video. this time it can be viewed in 1080p HD but it will be very laggy. i hope you enjoy it.
  10. ha! guam has many rare fishes that you can go dive, catch and bring back for me! like yellow crown butterfly, shepard's angelfish and katherine's fairy wrasse.
  11. yah these butterflies seldom arrive in bad shape and eat very soon after. i'm going to close this thread so reply me in my tank thread if you have anything else to say.
  12. the foxfaces were exhibiting their stress colouration. which makes them blotchy. the family of rabbit fishes including foxfaces are very good at doing that. certainly not aberrants. no aberrant foxfaces have been documented as far as i know.
  13. oh yes. sorry i did not see the above post. clowns can be extremely aggressive especially females. they will defend their territory very aggressively. it gets worse when they are spawning.
  14. again as i said, deworm. without deworming them, the success rate can drop to as low as 0%. they almost always arrive with internal parasites. it's not true choat's leopard cannot be kept in captivity. they can. but as you mentioned, they are very fragile and also they must be de-wormed. once done that, they must be in a tank that is suitable for them. anything but absolute luxury will spell doom for them. many people in the states have kept choat's leopard with much success. live aquaria's display tank at rhinelander has 4-5 specimens living in a harem and they are doing fantastic.
  15. depends on what fairy wrasses u keep. some can be absolute terrors.
  16. WTS 2nd hand PS3 slim. used very little only. selling coz dont have time to play. very new condition 9/10. asking price $450.

  17. why die? flames are easy especially the females. what's your quarantine condition like? i never quarantine wrasses because i don't see a need. wrasses are almost always disease free upon arrival and are very disease resistant. angels, clowns, butterflies and tangs are the ones that need more stringent quarantine procedures should you decide to do so.
  18. awesome tank. i used to have a mandarin that ate pellets too. i love your rockscape. minimalist scaping with valley concept. dont like those that are piled up like building blocks.
  19. Glad that you learn something new. I have many interesting fish facts and when people go home with learning something new, my objective is fulfilled! i've learnt to accept that singapore is not a place for rare and interesting fishes like this lol. hoping it will come will be futile. but there will always be a little bit in me that secretly hopes for these unpredictable things to happen! you never know right? not in the near future maybe but maybe years later, we will see some. however, there are still many surprises and interesting rarities popping up once in awhile in CF, ah beng and LCK which will knock my socks off. some things can be found but others just cannot hehe.
