FTS! Left side View: Wide angle: Right side 3/4 view: With the new additions to the scaping, the tank is much livelier, with the fish darting in and out of the caves, seahorse and crabs hanging onto the branches and cliffs instead of swimming in circles. The black sand also makes the tank appear crystal clear and colourful. Thanks again Ray!

My "centrepiece" RBTA refuses to be in the limelight . Anyone knows why this one doesn't like light? It prefers to hide in a cave for the last 2 weeks.

Some minor rescape courtesy of a few pieces of live rocks from whitefang. Seahorses now have places to hang around haha.

It's from Iwarna, forgot the brand, got it from Raydiactive Yes! Yes! Finally, and it's about time! I took leave this time round to secure it, but sadly like I predicted, the moment I find something really rare, it shows up everywhere hahaha.

A small indication of what's in the big update to come "I call this process the reverse Michael Jackson..." Peekaboo! Big thanks to Raydiactive for the sand

wts : brand new DYMAX IQ3 FOR SALE
albinosage replied to beebeefl's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
Actually to beebeefl's credit, he did not set up a clone nick to promote his own sale or defend/praise himself, unlike some famous past incidents with other members LOL! Sarcasm aside, let's leave this matter behind and not harrass each other through sms -

Hehehe... Everything stock up and stand by already, but dunno got time to empty my tank this weekend or not.. will be quite busy with other stuff. -
Maybe I'm a bit swakoo, but this is the first time I've seen a nocturnal themed tank. Very impressed!!! How do you time your lighting for this tank? Completely off in the day?

wts : brand new DYMAX IQ3 FOR SALE
albinosage replied to beebeefl's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
If beebeefl works for the Dymax marketing team, I'd say he succeeded. Before his series of threads selling, then buying then selling again, I couldn't give two hoots about the tank, never heard of it, but it is beginning to look nice to me now hahaha. -

INCREASE in ELECTRIC BILL by alot..
albinosage replied to legendz1987's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Hehehe... I was puzzled at first as well - upgrade to double the tank volume, then why so surprised that electric bills double? -
No lah, I think he bought it. The nicer coloured ones are sold sometimes. It's a majano anemone.

Live rocks can keep without chiller, 30 degrees isn't a problem. Just provide plenty of circulation, should be enough to keep the organisms alive. But I must ask.... Why the question? You keeping live rocks only?

Will be changing my sand bed and rescaping my tank this week, giving away my live sand after i clear them out. Sand is still relatively white and pest free. Enough to create a 1.5 to 2 inch sand bed in a 1.5ft tank. Please PM me to arrange collection in advance, if for some reason I am unable to tear down my tank due to busy schedule, collection will be next week.

Yah, I thought you were replying in response to underwater's post but I realised after reading the thread again haha -
INCREASE in ELECTRIC BILL by alot..

How did you arrive at that figure? I got $93.27, assuming his chiller runs at 500 watts effectively for 24 hours a day. Pump: $13.88 [(2 X 50W) / 1000] X 24 hours X 30 days X $0.1928 Chiller: $69.40 (500W / 1000) X 24 hours X 30 days X $0.1928 Lights: $9.99 [(54W X 4) / 1000] X 8 hours X 30 days X $0.1928 Assuming his chiller kicks in for 40 minutes and rests for 20 minutes every hour (quite likely cos 500 watts seems underpowered for a 4X2X2 tank) it will still be $46.27 I'm guessing the problem is the chiller, Resun 500 is quite old, and their chillers never consumes the power they claim, usually the rated wattage is more. If the chiller is not serviced, dirty, thermostat not accurate, it is not far fetched to say that it will consume far more electricity than the 500 watts and may kick in almost constantly. Also, for the home air con, even if you switch it on everyday as normal, it would have been working harder for the past month when the weather was so hot. Some afternoons the temperature would reach 34 degrees or more. For an air con to maintain the set temperature, it makes a world of a difference if the ambient temperature outside is 30 degrees or 34 degrees. I'm neither an electrician, engineer nor scientist, just someone who cares about how much energy my lifestyle is consuming. If my calculations or statements above are wrong, bros, please correct me -
I heard about dosing sugar to lower nitrates, but this is new to me too

I don't think you should do that if the flesh is still visible, cos the polyps might just be closed or retracted. If the branch without polyps is totally bare skeleton, as in, wire-like without flesh, I don't see why not. But bear in mind that if too much skeleton is exposed, that means it is probably not doing well and dying already.
-
The entire branch is the skeleton of the coral, covered with tissue, and the "surface area", I assume it's the polyps you are referring to. They feed by using the fan like structure to filter the current, catching plankton with its polyps.
