Yah I used a similar product like that, but decided to just stir the sand before water change to export the suspended debris haha.
-
Actually it doesn't suck out the water, the water is pumped through a filter sock which catches the debris.
-
Clove polyps. Never kept before but I assume it's the usual "moderate flow and good lighting" care hahaha.

Restock? Is your 1000L tank blog an online shop or private aquarium? Nice tank by the way, seldom see L shaped ones

Mitlancer's "Miracle" Atlantis Walll Mount
albinosage replied to mitlancer's topic in Members Tank & Specs
Hey bro, saw your post about the condition of the tank in another thread For your skimmer woes, how about considering the Tunze 9002? Compact and powerful, can fit it your tank I think, I managed to fit it into the back compartment of my nano tank with little problem. Also, I find that water change with natural sea water does wonder for the recovery of corals. -
Unintended consequence of LED lights, reduction in NO3!!!: Two weeks without water change, last measured at 5ppm, but instead of increasing, it shows 2.5ppm now . Usually measures at 10ppm after 2 weeks of heavy feeding. Why unintended? Guess where the nutrients went? Hair algae on the top most rock and chaeto growth, hahahaha! Win some lose some.

Oh yah man, I thought it was just me and the office PC, hahaha. Sorry Bill Gates, curse and swear at you for nothing Admin, please bring back the resized preview function, some pics are impossible to view

Putting "Ex" live rock back in tank
albinosage replied to sparkplug777's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Scrub with toothbrush. Sometimes I will spray it down with a hose to get rid of gunk trapped in the crevices, the worms and sometimes crabs will come out. That's what I do for newly bought liverocks la. -
Oh is it? I didn't know that, cos last time I have been advised to place those long stem zoas nearer to light source, and it seemed to help - I naturally assumed it's due to light. You are probably right though, cos I don't read up extensively on zoa care
-
So you've been officially poisoned by the black sand bug? Heard it is quite deadly... Start off with bleeding wallet and ends with backache. More feared than H1N1 that sissy pig virus.
-
Oh yah, you got around to installing a chiller yet? Or using fan? I find that my zoas faded more frequently and never recover in my chiller-less tank as compared to the one with chiller.
-
Faded colours can recover, just need patience and maintain the water parameters. I usually cut my losses early and remove all the polyps that seems shrunken and dying, so it won't spread to the healthier ones. Zoa care you need to ask the pros like ambystoma . Did the radioactive greens that I passed you survive? I remember there was a couple of fallen off frags in the tank haha.

Rock bonder to seal tank leaks.
albinosage replied to L0rdDracula's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Uh you shouldn't underestimate the pressure from the water, especially in a big tank. I brushed aside a 1 drop a second leak when it appeared on a 4x2x2.5 tank, and within 2 weeks the leak burst open into a waterfall. Rock bonder is brittle and definitely not waterproof if you are gonna let it cure underwater. best to dry the tank out and reseal it. Short term savings can hurt you in the long term. -
What kind of light, switch on for how long a day, how far away from the light are the zoas? Most likely it's insufficient lighting, a tell tale sign is overly extended stems from reaching out for more light. But then again, I've had success with some zoas, but fail with others under the same condition. Some do well in super clean water, some thrive in nitrate rich water, dunno why also haha. Dose vitamin C if all else fails, worked well for me so far. Anyway, zoas don't "spread across the tank" so easily, my fastest growing zoas grow at a rate of 2 small polyps every 3 weeks, I don't know what's the average speed, but to grow completely across the tank, I think it would take months or years.
-
Bro, don't give up so easily, cheer up and take this chance to upgrade or restart a new chapter in this hobby. I've always admired and enjoyed your pictures in this thread although I've never posted a comment. Looking forward to seeing your new tank set up pics soon!! happy bday by the way

Dupla Lux pendant fixture, can't find much info on it. DuplaLux LI - Grey | Metal Halide Pendant Luminare | 1x150W http://www.dupla.com/
-
Triggerfish's LED was sold. Markietan was selling a 4ft fixture sometime back, which is basically 2 x 2ft fixtures, can fold into half and use http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=76589 You can ask if he still has it, failing which, I think ML sells this LED set.
-
Iwarna still has many packets of the black volcanic sand when I last went there.
-
That's 0.1W per LED haha. I remember a few years ago I was quite swakoo, a contractor quoted me $10k for a project i was working on that involved a LED display, I asked why so much and he said each LED cost $20. I kpkb to him about how they cost 50 cents each at Sim Lim then he point at me and laugh

Yah talking about the algae creeping up the glass haha. That always irritates me a lot, but no such problem now ever since I changed back to natural sea water. Anyway the reflection should be minimal since you shot at f2.8, when you focus on the rocks instead of the glass, the reflection should be cut back by the shallow depth of field. But yah, shooting FTS in total darkness is the best haha.

Looks like your tank needs some scrubbing Scrap the algae with a credit card, worked wonders for me. edit: Just saw the moonlight shot, can see the tripod reflection LOL
