Most zoas can tolerate a higher temperature too, along with soft corals like mushrooms, leathers. Best to use a fan, especially these days with the ambient temperature so cool already, my fan is able to pull down to 26 degrees with lights on However, do consider getting a chiller if you are planning to keep LPS in future, during the hot and dry spell last month, the temperature in my chiller-less tank peaked at 32 degrees a few times .

Actually to update on the status, I found 3 worm carcasses that night after I complain about the bobbit worm. They were all shriveled up and I can't tell if it is fire/bristle, or the evil bobbit worm. The CO2 method really works. I soaked the rock over 2 days in fresh water with CO2 just to make sure that the bobbit worm is still not hiding inside, but nothing else came out even after blasting with a hose. But guess what? I found another 7cm long baby bobbit worm in the main tank the week after! This could be the worm that killed my blotchy anthias. Damned wriggly b*****ds!

Don't worry, since ammonia is still at 8, that means there's still some time to go before nitrite really rises to it's peak. The API test kit is not really reliable at the lower readings, sometimes the colour between cyan and violet is hard to differentiate too under different lighting conditions. Nitrite will rise over the next few days.

These are the things that's shouldn't be washed, ever: ceramic rings, live sand, live rocks. Okay, maybe live rocks a bit more flexible, sometimes you do have to freshwater dip them to get rid of pests or scrub algae off.

Sponge I suppose can wash anytime, just rinse vigorously in a bucket of tap water. Your tank cycling seems to be progressing right on schedule. Be patient with the nitrite, it will peak for a while and stay that way, and just as you start contemplating whether to change water or play cheat somehow, it will suddenly drop. I think I read somewhere that the bacteria that converts ammonia to nitrite takes longer to build up.

Not that cruel lah, it's the cycle of life. Can't fault the arowana for following his natural instincts, and for sure, you can't force all carnivores like lions and sharks to turn vegetarian. Whether the act of keeping a predatory fish and feeding them live food is cruel, is another debate altogether. It is a question of whether you are keeping them as pets or ornaments. Some people keep aquariums for show as a whole; the whole fish tank is part of the decor, seen as one entity, the corals and fish are part of the collective beauty of the ornament. I guess for this group, they would buy rare gems both for personal pleasure and for show, cos that is the purpose of the tank. I think of myself as a pet owner, I care for my fish as I would for my dogs -- if they were fuzzy and could survive outside water, I would cuddle and hug them even hahahaha!

The sponge in the filter compartment will probably clear any solid debris and scum in a few days, you should take it out and wash every week or so to get rid of the scum. I know where the shop is liao! Must be new cos I never noticed it before, I know there used to be one near the fruit/joss paper shop.
