  1. I've got my old JBJ 24G nano light set to giveaway. Formerly reserved for another reefer who wanted to upgrade his Boyu nanocube but he hasn't replied for weeks. Just the lights, ballast and reflector. Great for anyone who wants to upgrade their nano tank lights. Collect by this weekend or will be thrown away. PM me for info, thanks
  2. Up for the night! Anyway, considering the sluggish response to this sale, I think it's the price that might have put people off. I'm offering a free Rio 10HF pump (2700l/h) to whoever takes it at $190 - the pump and thermostat alone costs $165 when I bought them (both less than 5 months old), so this is actually a $25 chiller!
  3. Wahahaha! Clownfish Kosong, I also want!
  4. To quote the most important part of the article:
  5. Thank you bro, for making this thread so detailed and informative. I can see you are very excited and satisfied with your efforts haha. Thanks again for sharing!
  6. Want to sell the following chiller: Resun CL-280 specs Chiller is about 16 to 17 months old, bought from another reefer in March 2009, which makes me the 2nd owner. Changed out the original temperature display with the AVE-2000 controller and in tank temperature probe from Pacific Coo cos the original thermostat was faulty. The chiller has been lightly used and never abused, I set the temperature at 27 degrees and it kicks in for only a few hours a day. Benefits of temperature controller: The external temperature probe takes accurate readings from water inside the tank, instead of the cooling reservoir, more energy efficient. Digital display shows temperature reading to 1 decimal place (original one does not) Considerations (just being honest ) : The front grill which opens for cleaning has one broken snap - doesn't pose a problem to opening and closing though. May require servicing soon, last inspected by technician in March, but not cleaned. Asking for $190, might have about 1.5 to 2 metres of 5/8" hose to give FOC. The temperature controller on its own costs $120. Lowballers will strictly be ignored, although I will listen to sincere and reasonable offers PM me for info. Thanks for looking!
  7. They do disintegrate when they die like other anemones, but i don't know if they like to run around. Watch out if you have small fishes, the carpet anemone is predatory.
  8. Closest is CF and LCk right? The only LFS in the west as far as I know is ML which doesn't sell natural sea water, he sells salt mix too.
  9. Looks like you decided to restart a tank thread. Hope your tank is properly cycled this time bro, if not the many moorish idols and powder tangs would have died in vain Good luck!
  10. Yup looks like flatworms... For natural long term pest control, get a small wrasse
  11. The sand is actually not as light as grade 0 white sand. It is heavy and sinks quickly, like metal shavings haha. In fact, I think there is high content of magnetic minerals in the sand, always get attracted to metal surfaces. Ermm... short answer is no, it does not enter my clam haha.
  12. Oh no wonder so long haha. The closer to the ambient temperature it is, the slower it takes to regain the heat. How come it chills to 28 degrees when you set it at 27.5? Edit: I'm not using Artica, no money bro.. Haha. Using a Resun 280 with in-tank temperature probe and controller.
  13. That's actually a pretty darn good result Maybe you can try a 1 degree difference and see if it can last even longer than that haha. My tank takes about 1 hour to rise by 0.5 degree, but probably it's a higher ambient temperature and bad ventilation la.
  14. Umm... your tank is 2ft, and you claimed to have bought a HQI MH light from the same website (under great recommendation from your friend) you were touting in your previous thread. How come you are looking at a 3 feet fixture now? Dachkie pointed out in the previous thread that US products use 110V which is not compatible locally. I hope this is not some elaborate scam to push up the google ranking of the dodgy site, you don't sound local TheLaShop.com / YescomUSA.com which were linked in the last thread are actually the same company which has a very bad reputation. Everytime someone posts a bad review, a stellar review that sounds like an advertisement will follow proclaiming them to be the best. http://www.resellerratings.com/store/TheLaShop If I've wrongly accused you, I'll apologise sincerely. And by the way, the LED lights you pointed out are for fresh water plants, nobody uses full red light for marine tank.
  15. I usually thaw all my frozen mysis and brine shrimp at one go, then rinse them in distilled water mixed with vitamin c (natural preservative) to get rid of the nutrient rich frozen water. After that I refreeze them in a 1cm cube ice tray. I think should be 48 cubes in all, for my nano tank, that's 1 month's worth of work. Works very well for me so far, able to keep my water very clean.
  16. They may be vegetarian, but they are not Buddhist... they will still murder by instinct haha. They kill the snails for their shells, not for food. You can minimise the risk by giving them ample empty shells or the snails might hide very well, but someday when you are not looking, they will strike. There is always a risk
  17. Might want to reconsider that. Hermit crabs will hunt snails for their shells, even when they don't need a new home they will kill instinctively.
  18. Wow, this is a very neat and tidy DIY project. Can't wait to see the completed product! If only I had the knowledge and skills to build such projects haha.
  19. Yup, stock slowly for a successful and stable tank Anyway the blue/green chromis is a good choice as an early introduction to the tank. Very hardy and peaceful... greedy like pigs but peaceful haha. Looking forward to seeing your tank pics soon!
  20. Thanks to both of you for the zoa and lights respectively, my corals are really doing much better now Yah man, mine runs all over the place. Just when I think it is happy with a spot, it will run elsewhere. I figured out which area of the tank the anemone likes already, still looking for a suitable live rock that is to the anemone's liking.
  21. 8-10 hours is arbitrary la, they never say torch light or 250W MH hahaha . Depends on a lot of factors like the PAR value of your lights and depth of your tank, how far from the surface is your corals etc. Personally I think 6 hours is enough, that's how long I on my lights too - sandwiched between 4 hours of blue light to simulate low light conditions. If you were to stand out in the open, do you really think the sky will be cloudless and the sun is directly above your head for 8-10 hours?
  22. Thanks for the tip! Anyway, does anyone know where to buy those black insulation foam for the hose?
  23. Your chillers only kick in for 3 hours and less than 2 hours a day respectively? How do you achieve that?! Is your house air conditioning on constantly? Must teach us your power saving methods!
