First pic: RG: FUUUUUUUUUUU..... FW: Duhh.. What's this? 5th pic: RG: Wah kaoz, didn't expect the newbie to be so fierce, better get outta here. Very nice!! And great timing, almost like a comic strip.

you were seriously being humble earlier. I worked with a well known photographer some time back who was using same cam as u, but that dude seriously doesn't know anything, shots were also nothing as nice as these

You're a Nikon user right, I didn't know nikon had f1.2.. AI lens? Wah I never seen it in person, but you better not let me near it, will fog up your lens elements with my drool. Or you could be talking abt the canon L lens, either way.. droool....

Oh... cannot compare like that, the picture above is the photographer, not the lens' fault. Even if I step down to f3.5 and shoot, it will still be much sharper than zoom lens at the same aperture, not to mention the beautiful bokeh. The wide aperture is good for low light situations and abstract photography. I shot the following at f1.4, fully open with a cheap 2nd hand d70: I might be biased lah, but I really love prime lenses, I sold off my $2.5k zoom and I'm using the $400 50mm as my primary lens now. All the techies and posers I meet will turn their nose at my cheap lens, but I don't care hahaha.

Okay this will be my last post on this matter. Here's a screen capture from Monster Fish keepers forum: We stepped back and let you back down graciously. Rockyboy told us to take this nonsense to another section of the forum, and you post a defiant "sigh". If you want to insist that we are all wrong and you are victim of a super fast phantom gheylord, then I have nothing to say.
-
But seriously bro, what the hell is a monster fish?

Thanks comy for posting great tips and information.. Now I feel inspired to go play with my camera too. It's like a white elephant, I bought my current one a year ago, shutter count still 6k only. Jacky, you own a dslr too right? The best way to learn is to keep playing with it and trouble shoot when you don't get your desired shots Maybe when I'm free I'll contribute some tips I learnt with a point and shoot, since that's probably what the majority of us use to shoot our tanks.

If I work with MFA I don't think I will be logging into a thread of this nature at work

One of my useless talents is picking out unrelated news stories and mashing them up into conspiracy theories. I'm afraid that I'll grow to be a paranoid old man like Mel Gibson in that shitty movie Conspiracy Theory and one day get locked up to have my fingernails pulled because the conspiracy is true.

LOL that sums up what happens everytime I see Chee. While I do not agree with Chee and his group's methods to draw attention to a cause, the judgment and acquittal of the group is a welcome sign of change in attitude towards the opposition. Or is it cos president of the Land of the Free coming next month, the authorities don't want to give Chee a chance to do his martyr act in front of foreign guests?

Yah man you are the humble one here. Silent pro leh, I've seen your pictures, some of the nicest fish shots around here.
-
I agree with you, but the ratio of focal length to shutter speed is an arbitrary rule for shooting hand held To elaborate, if you are shooting an apple, it doesn't matter if the shutter speed if 1 second or more if you have steady hands or if you are using a tripod. On the other hand, if you are Michael J Fox, 1/125s would still result in shaky shots

Yup exactly what I mean, even if the subject is completely still, a difference of just a centimeter or so will blur out. The pic below is what I mean, the photo looks good enough at a glance, but then the focus is on the eye, but the nose starts to blur out already, imo that's a bad portrait. Shot with 50mm @ 1/25, f1.6 to test my lens... once I step down to f2.8 or f3.2, then the nose will come into sharpness.

cycling the tank

Haha, I don't think I mean to be bad too. I wish I was that hardcore, but I find it hard to be bad on purpose. I was half joking in the earlier post about wasting my time cos I was replying from my phone in the toilet. You guys probably took it a bit out of context cos I was too shy to mention that I was reading SRC while.. erm.. delivering packages. You know how fricking small the keypads are on smart phones?!! Type so much rubbish with my fat fingers making typos every few letters and end up finding out that it was probably a prank. Hahahaha Duncanl36, if your topic was meant to take us for a ride (considering the other thread), I think anyone would be angry too, since cycling of the tank is a topic that is asked at least once every month, despite the search function and FAQ sticky. I mentioned 2 pages earlier that you seem responsible enough to ask about cycling instead of silently making mistakes, I give you credit for that. Peace. -
Yup, but you will compromise on the plane of sharpness. I used to take pictures of my dogs at f1.4 cos they are fast little buggers, but I end up with pictures of only a sharp nose, or sharp eyes, the rest of the pic is blur. I try not to use anything below 2.8 unless I'm faced with no choice in a dark room or rock concert. High ISO is the way to go, since most cameras nowadays can go up to iso800 without noticeable noise. The idea is to use something that is free mah hahaha. Who would have thought the dvd lens can fit so nicely and produce such sharpness. Oh, and the glass lens from cd/dvd players will probably be of a very high grade as compared to those plastic attachments

Those photos not taken by me, but by other bloggers. From the circuit board pic, they look like 1:1 or closer. Our tanks are illuminated from the top, so I don't think the hp blocking the light will be a concern cos we shoot from the side.

Yah man, never thought the humble camera phone can be "hacked" to perform so well. I love this for the simplicity and ease of use

I agree completely. I might be acting like an arse, but I also know that all my mistakes were turned into life lessons by other arseholes who scolded me when I was younger. Lessons like that tend to stick with you. For example, I'm pretty sure our friend now knows the extent of his internet footprint and how easily IP logs can be traced back to him with one click of the mouse. With Google cache, virtually nothing is erasable or untracable, so it's better that he learns his lesson on internet anonymity here than to make a bigger mistake in future. But this is a lesson to me too... that means with the click of the mouse Larry will also know when I'm logging SRC from the toilet with my phone... Hahaha!

Thought I should share this great tip I learnt that's useful for reef photography: the lens from an old cd or dvd player can be recycled, and used as a macro lens attachment for your camera phone. Macro photos shot with cell phone camera: Very simple mod with great results all with a cell phone camera! I like leopard preen, I'm studying steel. Muahahaha. Back to topic, Duncan could have easily fessed up and said "LOL that was a joke", and I think most of us will either laugh it off or ignore him. In fact I think my earlier post "Lindsay Luohan" could actually be the punchline to his joke haha. But he chose to spin a web of lies despite being called out by admin. That's why I put the time stamp above

Don't like that say... to compare to people like that is to give bipolar disorder sufferers a bad name. I suffer from bipolar too, but I'm coping well without medication. Why? Cos I have a healthy respect for myself and a (mostly) positive attitude towards others hahaha

I know of people who can complete their 2.4k run in under 10 minutes, but I doubt they leave their laptop open for others to register an account, log in, search for Lindsay Lohan's drunk picture and post on the same thread in a forum without the owner knowing. The phantom user was either in close proximity or doesn't exist at all, either way, you are lying

someday when I grow up, I hope to be blessed with your sense of tolerance -
Yes and ends with 'p', that's one of them hahahaha! Haha bro, I actually spend much more time on bo liao websites than I would care to admit (mostly for work/hobby related research). I've come across all sorts of people with different motivations. Mostly, posts like that are for attention, or to use the second nick to boost the profile of the primary nick. The scary ones are the type who post because they lack attention in real life.

School holidays come early this year? Waste my time typing the reply above. Duncan, you owe me 5 minutes of my life - I even proof read my post for typo okay.
