LOL it is always the air con! My office kept tripping for a few weeks, no electrician could solve it, finally the air-con serviceman found that the condensation in the compressor was shorting some loose wire.

Bulky mail keeps disappearing, what can I do?
albinosage replied to albinosage's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Yes, I think I will do that. I think a lot of people underestimate the value of a police report. My gf had her phone stolen from her bag in the MRT. She could ID the person if shown the CCTV recording (she knew when and which door he got off at), but the station manager said nothing could be done. I was quite irritated that my gf didn't want to file a police report ("nothing they can do about it..."), because I believe that it is important to have documentations of such incidents so that official records will reflect the crime rates accurately. Imagine a world where nobody makes a police report after getting mugged on the train... SMRT will brag about their crime free trains. -

Hahaha yah maybe I should go to the delivery base and ask around. Must find some big sized gangster looking friend to go with me lol. Yah planning to do that after filing a police report. Will wait another week or so. Recently an acquaintance of mine did that, he lost a combined shipment worth $400 and he blogged a media shitstorm out of it. Dunno what happened to SingPost. Quite sad that to get things done quickly in Singapore, we have to kick up a fuss like that. -

I have visited my regional delivery base (sorting centre) in the past, you'd be surprised how much they know about you, even though there must be thousands of households in the area they service! They recognise you by name, don't even need postal code or block number. "Oh! You are so and so... you like to buy things from here right?" or "Oh yah I think I saw another package for you, wait I'll go and get it for you. (when I was there to pick up something else)" Maybe I'll pay them a visit again soon Anyway, is it feasible to make a police report for such things? I mean, the circumstances are very suspicious right? With a police report, I may have more leverage when speaking to SingPost customer service... -

Yah I agree that that was a risk that I took when I don't opt for tracking. But think about it, why should I be arm twisted into paying more money so that they don't lose my stuff? Right now it feels as though they are telling me, if you don't pay extra, we will steal your shit. In the last couple of months, I only ship by vPost (Speedpost) or EMS. Singpost is only good at delivering utility bills and junk mail -

We stay near each other... Probably the same delivery centre -
I suspect that some dishonest element within SingPost has been responsible for my missing packages from overseas, is there anything I can do to bust them? To back up my suspicions: 2 months ago, placed order worth ~USD$60 from iHerb, hasn't arrived till now. More than a month ago placed order worth £60 from ASOS (UK) but items never arrived. Early March, placed another order from iHerb with a friend, but split the delivery to 2 addresses. Friend received it 16 March, but I never got it. My gf made a call to SingPost and asked about the packages, and as expected they used the same excuse that the item could be lost overseas (not in their care) and since there is no tracking number, they are not responsible. So my gf pointed out that the latest package from the same sender arrived at the friend's place but not mine, and she asked point blank: 3 packages of high value missing in a row, has someone been stealing our shit?! The very next day, I got a missed delivery note to pick up the latest package... Now, I understand that when I mail things without tracking there is a small risk I have to take. However for international shipments the difference can be $20 to $30, so i usually just send stuff by standard airmail or priority USPS if the value is below $100. What are the chances that I will lose 3 (2, not including the latest one that arrived after the call) packages in a row?! Furthermore, I have ordered from ASOS and iHerb several times over the last couple of years with no problem. (I also suspect that my postman changed recently... don't see the regular one anymore) Other than to pay protection money ensuring that my items arrive at all, what else can I do to make sure that nobody steals my shit? Anyone been in a similar situation? Sorry, I'm very pissed off just recalling the details to post here, so it sounds like an angry rant

Mitlancer's "Miracle" Atlantis Walll Mount

I hate you Mitlancer, your thread is damn depressing to read everyday! -
Choi! Touch wood! Hopefully it is a one off thing. Sorry about your PBT.
-
Yup, true. Anyway Larry's PBT died... maybe Desi's fish is heartbroken.
-
Did the behaviour of the PBT change suddenly within hours? It's probably not the reason, but I am usually very paranoid of anything I put into the tank including bottles for trap or even nets to catch fish. I'll rinse them thoroughly in case the foreign item was contaminated somehow (chemicals, detergent residue etc).

Still looking to sell.

Little wriggly worms
albinosage replied to arcanehacker's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Nope, I don't know what they are either. They seem harmless though, and almost impossible to catch. I can only hope they are not some exotic parasite... the kind that swim up your private parts into your blood stream in the sea... watch too much TV liao -

I think I know what you are talking about. 1 to 1.5 cm in length, white in colour, and wriggles in the water column right? I see them quite often, easily 10 wriggling about at any one moment in my 24 gallon tank. If you are not observant enough, they look like stray fibre drifting in the water. -
I had a parrot. It talked, but it did not say "I'm hungry". So it died.

Hahaha should come as no surprise. I think Ricky Martin is the last person in the world to find out that Ricky Martin is gay.

This tank thread is getting depressing. Further cements my fear of marriage. Hahaha. -
It's okay la, you are in the work force now, no longer relying on NSF allowance = more money for gems! Sad to hear that lorenzo is decomming.. I spoke to him many months back and he did mention that he is a bit sian.
-
Nice updates.. Good to see you are stocking up, with your keen interest and knowledge in exotic and uncommon stuff I'm sure your new tank will be impressive and gem filled. Whatever happened to Lorenzo by the way, don't see him around much anymore

I am not a vegetarian, but I do avoid meat whenever possible. Like the chinese idiom 饮水思源 says, it is important to have an awareness of where your food comes from and what goes into it. Besides the cruelty which most of us are not exposed to, there is lots of genetically enhanced or modified food products that we eat, unaware of their effects. I used to be a fast food junkie in my younger days, but ever since turning to organic and vegetarian food (40 to 50% of my diet) 3 or 4 years ago, I've stopped falling sick as often. Sadly, if aliens did visit us, our first thought would be "Hmm... alien meat... can eat anot?"
