  1. Yup, spoken like a true economist hahaha. I think the question is, whether we want to turn our forum into a trade driven one, by dedicating so much thought and resources to set up a bidding system. Your ideas reflect the true spirit of a fair auction house, but we are not eBay. The approach I suggested incorporates reefer's wishes to conduct auctions, but at the same time, not encourage profiteering and turn the forum into an auction house. End of the day I'm glad this is something for the mods, and not us, to have a headache over .
  2. Then it's our turn to say “What happened was very bad”
  3. A crusty old Marine Sergeant Major found himself at a gala event hosted by a local liberal arts college. There was no shortage of extremely young idealistic liberal ladies in attendance, one of whom approached the Sergeant Major for conversation. "Excuse me, Sergeant Major, but you seem to be a very serious man.. Is something bothering you?" "Negative, ma'am. Just serious by nature." The young lady looked at his awards and decorations and said, "It looks like you have seen a lot of action." "Yes, ma'am, a lot of action." The young lady, tiring of trying to start up a conversation, said, "You know, you should lighten up a little. Relax and enjoy yourself." The Sergeant Major just stared at her in his serious manner. Finally the young lady said, "You know, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but when was the last time you had sex?" "1955, ma'am." "Well, there you are. No wonder you're so serious. You really need to chill out and relax! I mean, no sex since 1955! Come with me." She took his hand and led him to a private room where she proceeded to "relax" him several times. Afterwards, panting for breath, she leaned against his grizzled bare chest and said, "Wow, you sure didn't forget much since 1955." The Sergeant Major said in his serious voice, after glancing at his watch, "I hope not; it's only 2130 now."
  4. Actually I think that's the real purpose hahaha. If someone puts a ridiculously high price, then we will all know his true intention and after a few repeated stunts, people will avoid him, whereas, if someone "buys it now" at the ridiculous price, then it just proves your "willing seller-willing buyer theory". Win-win solution in my opinion
  5. Get a Singaporean diplomat to hunt him down in Romania and run him over too, then flee back to Singapore and claim that Romania govt is framing him lol. Just kidding
  6. Bo pian leh... They cannot detain him cos he has diplomatic immunity and cannot be charged. MFA can only resort to pressuring the Romanian govt into giving him up, but I don't think that is going to work cos what the hell can we threaten them with?
  7. Another controversial thread with the potential to blow... let's keep our discussion civil and respectful If not I will flood the thread with nonsense and steer it again LOLOL!!!
  8. 1) Have a separate sub forum for housing only bids thread. At the moment, the bids thread are in the Pasar Malam sub forum. With the massive number of sales threads as well as all the upping going around, if I want to find out which are the current bids that are open, I need to scroll through 3-4 pages of sales threads to try to locate them. Even that sometimes I might miss out and rescroll again. With a separate sub forum, we can now easily identify the current open bids and also do a quick reference to all the previous closed bids. - jackywongto 2) Have a compulsory "buy now price". If your intention is share a high demand item with others and not to profit, then I don't see why a cap on the bidding is so difficult. Suggested "buy now price" can be the market price + how much more you think it is worth, or even $1000 for a single polyp of brown mushroom, we shouldn't put a cap on it. Let the bidders decide if it is reasonable and if you are selling with the sole intention to profit. - binosage I think to sub divide a separate bid forum even further is too messy. Bidders can always subscribe to individual threads they are interested in bidding in so they won't miss out. The buy/sell forum currently, even with bidding threads, hardly exceeds a single page of new threads a day, once you subdivide it into so many categories, there will only be a couple of threads per forum haha.
  9. These are good only for FOWLR and soft corals. Each LED is barely 0.5W, and it will be pretty redundant for tanks deeper than 1.5ft.
  10. Aiyah cannot embed liveleak videos... Woman dresses up as a ghost to freak people out in an office building
  11. <3 My reputation just turn green in my profile. Nice!
  12. ^ Up button. "Action failed: You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day"
  13. Yup very handy feature, in theory if it works, it can substitute for a buy/sell forum feedback system. Cos high post count doesn't mean reliable, and newbies are not always trolls.
  14. Tsk tsk just realised there is a difference between 'senior member' and 'senior reefer'. Anyway, comy: the rep system I assume, is a system of upvotes and downvotes you can give to posts. For example, Jacky gives good advice, then other members are encouraged to 'add points' by clicking the green icon after the post. If somebody trolls the forum, then you can 'minus points' by clicking the red button after the post. I think the amount of points you can give and take away are limited and allocated daily (so someone cannot anyhow down mod away at a person he cannot get along with). I suppose the points will go toward the reputation of the account, to help us differentiate between trolls and genuine members.
  15. Assuming you have little coraline algae to start with and your water parameters and light period are perfect, should see them spreading within weeks (will start out as small purple dots), and in a few months it will be nicely encrusted.
  16. Purple algae does not get pushed out of nowhere. You need to have existing coraline algae growth in the tank to multiply and spread onto other rocks. Good lighting (which I assume you will already have for coral growth) is also required for coraline algae to grow, I heard some reefers say that they multiply faster with blue light, but I don't know how true is that. Also, make sure that your rocks are clean and algae free; slime/hair algae will stunt the growth of coraline in the affect areas. Besides proper calcium levels, magnesium level should be maintained as well. The main ingredients of purple up is calcium, magnesium and iodine.
  17. Actually I dunno also hahaha! Should be able to. Anyway it is still under warranty, which means that if anything spoil you can have it repaired by agent and I believe this is the newer shipment of fixture that allows you to upgrade to CREE LEDs.
  18. Hmm... by any chance are you the union taxi driver reefer with a 6ft tank who picked me up once? I once got on a cab at LCK and the driver keep talking about his 6ft tank full of tangs and angels
  19. hehehe, nothing political bro, these are "grassroots" issues.. and we are just a few "heartlanders" grumbling about everyday life As long as we don't make any seditious comments or defame anybody, we are in the clear. Sorry mitlancer
  20. Haha lets not turn today's topic into a foreigner bashing one la. True, there are a lot of them who bring their 3rd world behaviour over here, but Singaporeans have an ugly side too. Moreover I suspect that a large fraction of FT have no problem adjusting to our culture, it's the small percentage of inconsiderate people who give them a bad name.
  21. Hahaha yah man. I'm surprised that people don't realise how we are rapidly being replaced by foreign talent. 1 out of 4 or 5 people you see today in the streets is a FT. Politicians play it down as a necessity, but in reality a lot of our problems stem from this sudden influx of foreigners. The cash rich ones jack up property prices, the skilled workers are willing to take our jobs for half the pay. Everyday folks like myself kena kiap in the centre, literally middle class. Of course, in a recent interview (heavily edited by local media), our MM says that the problem is not the FT, it is people like us who complain and cannot adapt
  22. Switch on, run for a few hours... Condensation builds up, gathering moisture into water droplets... Boomz! Sounds like a good theory, you should check your air con.
