latest updates from my nannies, abt only 5 to 10% of my sps survived. most softies survived. abt 80% lps survived. abt 80% of ric floridas survived. (yes, the rare yellow and tri banded color ones survived.) the one and only teardrop maxima in my tank survived. no reported casualty in LS. water is still a little milky and smelly......... reported water parameters: temp: 27 deg. (new chiller) dKH: ??? Ca: ??? NO3: 25ppm water change is undergoing at the current moment as i speak. 4 large packs of GAC in sump. 2x polyfilters in sump. skimmer running tirelessly. that's abt it. had to cycle 1 km to make this call to my nannies at this time. -

this is it fellow reefers, i'm done for. juz a sad update. i hv received information from my nannies that my tank crashed (or u might wanna say 1/2 crash on wednesday morning ard 4 a.m). Reason being chiller stopped running and temperature rosed up to 32 degrees celsius b4 anyone can do anything abt it. my fiancee discovered it and called my nannies. roughly at ard 6 a.m, my nanny no 1 (who has been reefkeeping since abt 13 years ago) came over to my place to check out the situation, by then, almost 1/2 of my sps collection were wiped out due to the sudden surge in temp. he quickly took out all the sps which showed signs of rtn and change a few buckets of freshly mixed saltwater immediately......... tank water was smelling very bad it seems. he then proceed on home to catch some sleep as he needs to work later. nanny no 2 came over at abt 11 am, measured the water parameters, changed another 2 pails of SW. added in 1 polyfilter to the sump and 4 packets of GAC. threw away another 5 sps. nanny no 3 came over at ard 1 pm, took whatever that could be salvaged including my remaining surviving sps and all of my ric floridas collection, but as of now, it seems that only abt 1/2 of the sps he took r surviving and also almost 1/2 of the ric floridas hv oredi melted away. nanny no 4 took 1/2 day leave from work, went to buy a new chiller for me, installed it at abt 3pm, checked the water parameters and took some more sps he felt could be saved. took some of my lps too and threw away some more sps and lps. so far no casualty to my LS with the exception of some cleaner shrimps and assorted snails. estimated loss to be ard 3 to 4k. it's not juz the monies, but more importantly, the effort that has been put in. nannies will be over at my place again tonite to monitor the situation and the next best step to take. kudos to all my nannies, juz really wanna express my gratitude to all of u. although not much can be done or salvaged, but i know u hv oredi done ur best. though i was more or less mentally prepared for this situation to arise, but i m still in awe. well now, i feel so "cheng-sim" (saddened and discouraged)....... really dunno how to carry on reefing from here forth. hope i dun get flamed for this addition to my thread. it's not crap talk, but juz to update ppl who r concerned abt me and to express my heartfelt thks to those who hv cared and helped in anyway. would also appreciate if reefers can stop adding oil to fire by saying "told u so" and that kind of stuff. dun bug me for the id of my nannies too, as i would hv wanted them to remain annoymous right from the start. signing off sadly from jepun....... LS. -
i box problem, need help!! urgently!!!
lightningstrike replied to tahir69's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
fill the u tube up wif water to the brim on both ends, secure both the ends tightly wif cutouts of plastic bags and rubber bands, invert the u pipe (now a n pipe) to make sure it is not leaking. put the pipe into as per norm position in ur i-box. use a chopstick to push out the rubber bands and remove the plastic cutouts on both ends. presto!!! siphon is working!!! if still dun understand, give Ian a ring. -

IMHO, i would suggest u to continue using ur MH. only 1 simple reason, u r leaving for studies soon....... why waste the monies? 8x 54W doesn't comes cheapo too....... the monies can be put to better use elsewhere. juz a friend's advice and 2 cents. (btw, this comes from urs truely who bought 2x sps on impulse juz days b4 i left for jepun) the colors were juz 2 swee, cannot resist.
