This boils down to the basics again. U want DSB? fine. but try not to cover every inch of ur sandbed till there is not enuff surface area for the bacteria to thrive on. U want the Berlin way? fine oso. but make sure u hv enuff LRs to go abt doing so. No offence to anyone, but experience and knowledge is neither accoutable for by the date u joined nor the numbers of posts u hv. so why feel inferior? if someone is willing to learn, another will be willing to teach. sigh....... dunno which lfs advise to clean cannister 8 to 12 mths later. even wif sump, u need to clean or change filter wool at least fortnightly or monthly.

exactly what i meant. so it is not the sea swirl. so sorry. btw, use mechanical movement to swing, one day will jam. but use motor to rotate, one day will spoil too.

hi sugi, couple of mths back, i saw a similar design to that of sea swirl being put on display at reborn. i m not 100% certain that it is the exact sea swirl from MRC, but it sure looks like it. maybe u can check it out wif ah bee from reborn.

hv heard of flame angel pecking at lps, sesile inverts & clam mantles, but not sps..... at least not yet. i doubt u can get a royal gramma under 20. maybe brazilian.

it's not i believe in cannister........ it's bcoz "bo pian", i hv no space for a large sump (Juwel tank). dun wanna sell the cannister off at a cut throat price. (u know the market for 2nd hand items nowadays) since can find a use for the cannister to provide chemical filtration and provide the flow into my chiller, why not? i used to keep a mixed reef, mainly sps and only service my cannister abt once a mth.

oredi advised borinz on this issue seperately. hmmm...... shall shove a bolt of lightning up ur @rse!!! joking true , i m only utilizing my cannister as chemical filtration, the cannister is oso my inflow to my chiller. as for the pathetic sump i hv, all it does is to hse my in-sump skimmer and hide away all the tubings and pumps i hv to drive the FR, CR, KR, etc. as i hv said, chemical filtration, can go for cannister. biological, Berlin, Jaulbert, etc. mechanical........ IMHO, good skimmer, lots of flow and current in main tank to sweep the detritus off and let the skimmer do the job.

blood shrimps r generally 2 big for the flame hawk's liking, unless the flame hawk is like super big or the blood shrimps r very tiny-weeny in size. as for flame angel, like wat i said, depends on the temperament of the individual angel. some reefers hv success keeping them wif no complaints at all in mixed reef tanks, but there r oso reefers cursing and swearing since the day they bought the fish coz it has been pecking at their corals non stop! or rather, they might juz ignore all ur corals for a few weeks and juz all of a sudden decides that ur prata looks nice and delicious enuf. LS

flame hawk: might be aggressive towards shy gobies/blennies and small shrimps. but considered one of the most peaceful amongst hawkfish. flame angel: dependant on ur luck, might not be reef safe, esp. towards big fat juicy corals, e.g. pratas, cynarina, etc.

hmmmm........ u might juz wanna pop over at some lfs known to u to check out the price. told u i m out of touch liaoz. might hv to ask reefers out there to bring me ard lfs when i m back. btw, the royal gramma is known to be quite a shy fish, will hide in crevices of LRs quite often. but i guess it takes a little time for it to get familiar wif its surroundings b4 venturing out further.

market price? dunno, lost touch wif the local lfs prices liaoz. but i last bought at ard $4@++ IME, generally reef safe. might spark off a fight if u hv other basslets or dottybacks. small shrimps, e.g. ###### anemone shrimps might be endangered.

yes. it has definitely 60 or more. coz when i was a pilot trainee, we hv to memorized each and every little isle (orientation purposes). sigh........
