u need more than 15kg of LRs for a berlin system to work. lots of water movement is encouraged in a berlin system to prevent dead spots & detritus build up. if ur tank is still unstocked, u might wanna consider putting in all the LRs u need once and 4 all. depending on what u wanna keep, i wld recommend u to upgrade ur lights and skimmer.

dstan: i bought my lovely westie a little more than a year ago at Bishan Park II, i think Toby & Tess was the name of the shop. it has since closed down. For Pedigree breed, normally a cert comes along with it. most pedigree breed comes from overseas. My austin came from Melbourne, Australia. look out for the microchip number stated on its innoculation health cert. ask the shop owner to scan the dog and show u the number on the scanner. both numbers shld hv a perfect match to authenticate the dog. there's a couple of good websites to go to. juz go to any search engines and do a search on "west highland white terrier". AKC (America Kennel Club) is one of them. a kind reminder, pls make sure u can handle having a dog b4 getting. i hv seen far 2 many irresponsible owners. in the end, it is the poor little guy that suffers. happy hunting and hope u get ur westie soon.

Is Eric Borneman turning his sandbed upside down? i dun think so. An excerpt from his article on Reefkeeping Online Magazine Oct 04: Some aquarists had been suggesting that it might be a good idea to stir sand beds and release the accumulated detritus for removal by skimmers and to provide particulate foods for the corals. Already long considering the lack of particulates in the water column and ways to provide them, but not having given much thought to sedimentary microbiology or changes to water chemistry by stirring these sediments, it sounded like a good idea. So I stirred my sand beds a few times over a period of a week. Initially, I was impressed as the coral polyps opened and fed on the material that clouded the water column. A week later, most of my Acroporids began sloughing tissue, and I had my first really serious bout with what was then called "rapid tissue necrosis." It wiped out most of my corals, and it spawned my interest in what would eventually become one of the major subjects of the dissertation that I am now in the process of completing. Lesson Learned: Sand beds are great, but are best left alone. They harbor huge populations of microbes, many of which are opportunistically, indirectly, or directly pathogenic to aquarium inhabitants (and humans). The changes in redox that occur in sand beds, along with disruption of anoxic pockets that may contain hydrogen sulfide, wreak havoc on all manner of water column parameters and can result in the death of virtually every fish and invertebrate in the tank. They are not nutrient bombs, but do need to be understood for proper function in an aquarium. The original article can be found here.

if u disturb the dsb too much, u will release hydrogen sulphide(bubbles), which will kill ur LS rapidly.

hi Chefri, understand ur lights were previously of 5 x 20W TL??? what is TL? In any case, juz a reminder that u need to slowly acclimatize ur corals to the 250W MH. else ur corals will suffer from shock due to the sudden increase in light intensity.
