  2. Good Article to read with regards to PO4 problems. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/sept2002/chem.htm
  3. u dun remove the market prawn, leave it to dissolve.
  4. now oredi 4bps??? MHO, wld be to lower the drip rate. for now, maybe 1 drip/sec will do. as for CO2, 4bps is a little 2 fast for me. check for excess CO2 trapped in the CR. maybe can try reduce to ard 1b/2sec to start wif 2. but as i say, diff setup, diff results. this juz serve as a general guide, observe the readings over the next few days with reliable dkH and Ca testkits. then slowly fine tune from there.
  5. IMHO, if not using a solenoid valve, CR shld constantly read conservatively ard....... 30++ dkH. Ca at abt 450ppm. note: very general guideline. diff system, diff readings. for me, i used to get 42 dkH at ard 480ppm Ca. my 2 cents only.
  6. bro, 12dkH is way too low from ur CR. what is ur effluent Ca reading now?
  7. what is a good buy??? the swagelok thingy??? errmm....... i hv no experience with it, so no comment. but like what the others hv said, maybe u wld like to consider going for a complete set first rather than use specialised parts.
  8. IMHO, i juz find a dual gauge regulator with a good needle valve is a must. other than that, the solenoid is juz a good to 2 hv. it can be quite fustrating tuning the bubble count if u dun hv a good needle valve. juz me 2 cents.
  9. juz something to add, IMHO, best to hv a good and reliable skimmer to work well with enzyme-based additives in exporting DOC.
  10. hi joe, where is this upgrade unit available locally?? do u know the cost?? i believe as u said, is juz the cover with an additional pH probe attachment. any URL where i can read up on this??
  11. i m not sure if u shld go for a tunze though as ur tank is a 2 footer. maybe Seio M620 or 820 might be a better choice.
  12. no one knows for sure how many b/s one will set, all these depends on individual aquarium requirements. i did not mentioned that there will be excessive CO2 when the needle valve is set to 2b/sec did i? what if someone was to set to 3b/sec? wld'nt that lead to excessive CO2 without a solenoid to cut off the influx of CO2? (assuming the tank is small and lightly stock. as i hv put it previously, improper tuning.) juz me 2 cents.
  13. the pH controller acts more like a safety net to prevent excess CO2 from getting into the system. e.g. power failure, inaccurate tuning of regulator, etc. Excessive CO2 can lead to A.R.M turning into powder due to the low pH (lower than 6.5), excessive Ca, etc......... eventually may lead to tank crashing. for the most accurate of measurements, the probe is recommended to be attached to the CR. but many CR dun come with this function. i am using korallin and it does not hv a lobang for me to plug in the pH probe. so the next best thing is to get myself a small container, put the pH probe into it and let the effluent of the CR flows into it b4 overflowing out into the sump. this way, u measure the pH of the effluent and is rather accurate 2.
  14. There r a few brands carrying the Lugol's solution. for the Warner Marine Research brand, can get it at Petmart. i m using the WMR Lugol's plus solution. can last quite a while coz only weekly dosing needed. Here is the URL to WMR Lugol's Plus.
  15. Melvyn, juz a point for ur consideration. maybe u wld like to wrap ur inlet/outlet hoses for the chiller with P.E foam (with adhesive on one side) to prevent condensation and keep temp loss to the environment down to a minimum.
  16. hi Ian, Glad to know that u r keeping ur tank. best of luck.
  17. There is also the brass-made type. quite a few brands to to add to what zerocool has mentioned, e.g. aquamedic, milwaukee, etc.
  18. dude, then at least try to express urself tactfully. every organism??? did i hear u correct? then may i ask if u hv any LS or hv a skimmer running on ur tank? coz all the pods will die!!! bacteria...... everything!!! might as well say humans dun exist....... we r killing bacteria with every breath we take. there is no way to judge by skimmate how much DOC in detail. e.g. PO4, etc u skim out. best way is to judge by corals well being and test kits. IMHO, there is oso no way a skimmer can rid a normal tank (which has LS and require feeding) entirely of PO4 without using PO4 removing agents like Rowaphos, zeovit, etc. why not u show us ur awesome tank, so that we can take a look at what r the responsible equipment a responsible reefer shld hv? juz me 2 cents.
  19. bro, triggerfish is using resun MD 40 to run the beckett la.
