bro your volume quite alot leh. i think u should try to get a 1hp chiller instead of a 0.5hp one... besides your mh, u may wana supplement with T5s. especially if u wan to go sps in the future. 250w 10000k would be whitish, and maybe yellowish too. unless u use a 14000k (hamilton/pheonix). At that length i suppose u must use a SE bulb? Then again mabbe Dr Evil's DE fittings can allow u to stretch a 250W DE over that kinda dimension.... So i tink when u add t5s + volume of water + some powerheads = i think 0.5hp might be insufficient. It might be sufficient but will run longer. Personally i hate the exhaust from e chiller, rather cut running time

I have never used DSB from the start and probably never will. I think a little sand for looks is good enough.... my tank aint fantastic but i dont see any major problems and can control nitrates easily with a HnS skimmer, lotsa LR, minimum feeding, lotsa flow (1 return, 4powerheads in a 2.4footer), and a denitrator... I have always tot DSB is a toilet bowl without the flush. Then again i suppose they serve their purpose very well for the first few years?

bro arent u worried that the plastic containers might be too flimsy? i fear they may break under the weight of the water. wats more, e toilet test was done at a low height and since ur tank is taller (i assume), e weight will be so much more greater! scary.....

anyone knows whats gonna happen? My guess is the plants will turn yellow and die?

BH, it is possible of cos. But i think most of us dont see where is this heading to? Conservation of reefs? For interest? Commercial gains? Assuming that these goals are mutually exclusive, they automatically warrant your investment (time and effort and money) unnecessary. I think people here wan to see that there is a future, a continuity in what you are starting. If lets say, when u head into NS, who is going to take care of the animals in the lab? Or teachers, students who get replaced - whos to assure that there is a plan to continue the project and the animals will be well looked after? And u say u wan to import corals - dont see how this can lead to conservation of reefs either? cos wouldnt u be indirectly creating the demand? I think u need to show figures; a commitment from members of the team that is in your school, to convince us of the worth of this project.

i also using 20HF (2nd hand somemore) for a few weeks liao and i have this to say: This monster rocks! it works very well, and gives the highest flow per watt... I do not find its noisy but in terms of heat i am not very sure. I think my extrema is even hotter than the Rio......
