ok i guess its my turn now, cant run away from diatoms, they keep coming back! mi questions: 1. issit a guarantee that getting the above will eliminate phosphates n hence diatom growth? 2. saw some fellow reefers mentioning getting one for the family? issit cheaper like tat - ie. one tat can dispense water like water cooler... 3. how does the normal fishy RO unit work. do they connect direct to the tank via tubes like a canister? or sthg like a bucket tat u use to perform water changes? 4. any good brands? hi everyone, i have a 16x10x10 plastic tank wif cover thats unused. selling for $10. the 2.5 ft light is JBJ. bought at $140 for only 3 mths. selling at $100. Its a single tube model, comes wif a combo bulb. happy holidays!

wow jellyfishes? arent they poisonous? i feel at home shouldnt keep poisonous creatures leh, skali someone ignorant go n put tank in water how... but no doubt must be interesting....... eh ange, how abt octopus? just one octopus would do.... at least its got long legs like the jellyfish...oni thing it doesnt float on the surface?

hi newdamsel, ...... mi snails look like the cone ones, but mine has some kind of rings ard the shell....urs like pretty covered up! but the bottom part look abt the same as ur snails.... hongxian, u got me worried! wat toxic snails? i have new hitchhiker snails which came in the LR, brown ones... i not sure whether they are toxic, how to know? they look useful, cleaning my glass n rocks.....

i read b4 that target squirting the hole wif hot water helps, any of u guys tried it? i nvr had this problem (yet) and nvr wish to have one to deal wif! its kinda scary, these monsters.......

hongxian, i didnt know that its used to nibble algae.....nvr seen a snail use it b4... i just see it discharging slime from time to time.....its always sticking out of the snail, nvr seen it stick on glass/rock to eat algae... tat said, i am realli confused over my snails whether turbo or astreas. when i see website, always turbo snail have round shells. astreas are cone shaped! mi snails are all cone shaped, does this mean they are astreas! newdamsel: could u paste a pic of ur astreas for us to see?

alamak, u guys are all missing the q! the q is what do we term this hobby of ours, and not what we call ourselves when we spend hours on end in front of a tankful of water!

hmmmmm so far i havent seen snail poop thats as solid as a sausage! given that they eat algae, it shouldnt be tat solid! so that tube is for pooping? i tot its some kinda filter as they discharge the slime while eating (to filter the sand out), didnt know that the poop tube is so close to the snail's mouth!

i tot chiller u can set the temp u wan it to be? eg. 27c constant? u mean 600w cant do that? or issit timer based? anyway when next time got $$$ to get bigger tank den i go buy a chiller..right now, content wif my snails n rocks...hehe

Ic... the 600w is bigger one right? sounds kinda ex to me to run...based on that, a 20 hour run would cost $57 per mth! btw wheres that hailea website? issit a taiwan brand? How about going into Malaysia to get the chiller? cheaper or not?

I noticed theres a tube located at the snail near the mouth part. It sticks out and sometimes I see some discharge coming out. Is it the tube for it to s*** ie. poop tube?

hi Zerocool, thanks for your info! hmmm sounds like teco and eido are expensive hor? but u sure about the elect bill? that sounds cheaper than i tot! (tempted liao) but the mthly elect bill corresponds to the water volume of the tank right? ie. if bigger tank = more water volume = more expensive... eh, just an afterthought: why put chiller in FW? u could probably do better wif both chillers on the SW!

actually how much do chillers cost? 600 upwards? kinda expensive... how much do the electricity bill run to? Issit $100 more per month? I heard that its better to get the bigger models as they are more efficient, is that true?

this may be a stupid q but does anyone know the proper term for this hobby of ours? marine fish hobbyist? marine ecosystem? or just the above marine aquaria hobby?
