  1. Thank you for your advice. Generally do most lfs allow demo/trial feeding of SH or PF? If captive, probably they will only eat live BS right? I tend to feel a bit paiseh to ask for trial feeding, like adding trouble to them... unless I know them well
  2. That is a big hermit..why is it a nuisance?
  3. No way to bait it, it is too smart. I realise that now BOTH my royal gramma (my favorite fish-those cute black eyes) and my purple firefish are now in hiding. Strangely it left my smaller red banded goby, neon goby and very peaceful Banggai cardinalfish and maroon clown alone. Maybe the colour of the gramma and firefish bears some similarities with the wrasse? Anyway I was unable to trap it and finally took my reef apart to net it....so happy I finally got it. It is now in my quarantine tank to be transfered to a kind bro who is willing to adopt it.
  4. Here's a pic of it eating Henry's gourmet food, notice a bit of green at the mouth? The mushroom isn't too happy though..that is the crab's favorite perch when I feed; it is very tame and will come out to receive food from my long tweezers.
  5. Hmm I have the same problem, got some zoos from GO, intially opens up nicely for 1 week or so then now remain closed, same thing for the other zoo. Parameters are all OK. I suspect my anemone crab is at it, so relocated it up the reef. The unfortunate thing is that only the more expensive and prettier zoos got affected, but the cheaper uglier one is growing perfectly well....
  6. Got a banded pipefish but refusing to eat anything, even live brine shrimp...you have any advice on how to coax it to eat?
  7. Have already researched several sites and books and they mentioned that wild caught seahorses will only feed live bs initially before being weaned onto frozen food, hence my concern for the initial stages of feeding.
  8. Thank you guys for your suggestions, looks like I need to give a lot of "training" to give should I buy some seahorses. It is just that brine shrimp is so hard to keep, most start dying after 2 days and water turn foul. Just wondering, AM sell live brine shrimp that look bigger, whereas Ah Beng sell slightly smaller brine shrimp...just wondering if there is any differences in nutritional value.
  9. I am thinking of getting some seahorses, but would very much prefer to have captive bred ones so that I can feed them mysis instead of live food. Are the ones available in Singapore captive bred? I once asked an owner about the seahorses he was selling, he said they are captive bred but feed them live brine shrimp...then he became very unsure when I asked him if they can feed on frozen mysis, and I then gave up asking...
  10. Just wondering how significant will the die-off from plankton will be to affect the water? I will buy 2 bags of water and place them inside a jerrycan which will last me about 2-3 weeks. I am not sure keeping the seawater "alive" is useful....
  11. Previously I thought they were filter feeders, and when i feed my corals, it will come out, together with the other shrmips and hermits. I used to squirt coral food with baby brine shrimp over it and it will wave its fan-like appendage to channel them to its mouth. UNTIL 1 week ago, when it was actually tame enough to compete with the larger blood shrimp for the chunk for prawn or clam, and actually eats the meat. It would grab the prawn with the large pincers and slowly ingest the meat. I am sure others have observed such behaviour in these "plankton" feeders.
  12. Thanks. It is a juvenile, so I guess colours not yet apparent.
  13. Hey, no joke. Oh, someone just ID it for me...and it IS related to the seahorse! It is a sea moth, or sea robin.
  14. Someone can ID this strange black fish? It is a juvenile, very small- about 3cm only.
  15. I think I will just leave it and see what happens. It is just too tiring to capture it. It is very very smart, when it sees the net it just go into hiding.
  16. Sigh...I didn't know it is THAT aggressive. And it is so happy in the tank, feeding till the tummy is bulging, and so tame it will even feed from hand...didn't know it can be such a little monster.
  17. I was quite shocked yesterday when I realised that my 6 line wrasse had been aggressive to my other fish in the 25G tank. My royal gramma has been hiding inside LR all the time, with occasional darting out to eat before hiding again, and I saw that when it comes out, the wrasse will attack it and force it into hiding again. I also noticed some torn fins on my maroon clown, which I assume is done by the wrasse. I tried to catch it, but it is too agile and unless I dismantle the reef, it will remain in the tank. What do you guys think? I thought 6 line is fairly peaceful. It did not touch my Banggai cardinalfish though...
  18. Bro, I think this eye has to shut soon...my tank is already deemed overstocked, bad idea to be patrolling the LFS!
  19. Oh dear I just dropped by some lfs at noon and just spent more money on a nice squamosa and a nice blue zoo..OK NO more additions now!
  20. Happen to be at Iwarna today when some new stock of corals and clams came: has many maximas and croceas. Also saw many lps and ?blastos? But in hurry so did not see all the new stuff.
  21. Added some more stuff : some shrimps, an abalone, a blue gonio (prob goniopora tenuidens) and an sps (is it montipora digitata?) from GO. Macroalgae suddenly died for no reason. Randall's shrimp has disappeared, so replaced it with another one. Also got a 6 line wrasse, now in quarantine tank. Anyone can ID this sps? Is it montipora digitata?
  22. Did a rescape, and managed to increase the height of the overall structure by stacking another live rock on top of others. Hence the sps and clam can enjoy more intense light. Also moved the macroalgae to the back, and moved the favia forwards to a more prominent position, as suggested by someone I think this is a better scape as there is more stable space to put corals nearer to the light source. The orange plate coral Got these recently, was told these are rics...one of them almost crushed by falling rocks! Paid $100 for these...you think these are worth it? The hammer grows rapidly and expands very well. Behind is the favia I got from GO The open brain, so easy to feed
  23. It was like that when I got it....thought that is the natural colour. A female colleague said that it was cute and pink, so bought it. I do monitor the tank closely, as I am aware I am stocking the tank rather fast...not easy to resist buying. The lights came with the JBJ cube setup. I think it is 2 compact fluorescent with 36W each, so total of 72 watts for the tank. Half white and half actinic. Anyway I just rescaped the whole tank, hope it looks nicer. Will post pics tomorrow.
