The gorgonian did not survive long, unfortunately. It really needs to be fed frequently and hence not easy. My tank temperature is about 24C, as it is in an aircon room, and next to cool-growing orchids.
-
It also relishes Henry's gourmet food!
-
From AM. I asked for test feeding using mysis, although only a few responded, the female I bought managed to eat mysis later when she was in my tank.
-
Bought them at noon today, and within a few hours, they are alreay feeding on frozen mysis from a plastic cup sunk into the substrate of my reef aquarium. I am quite impressed at the speed at which they learn. Anyway bought a few gorgonians as perches just now, as a "reward" for their learning ability.

Thanks for your advice.

Feeding from a plastic cup; so much less uneaten food with this technique. I find that scattering mysis around result in too much uneaten food.
-
Tiger tails easy to train? Is that generally true? Then I will want to get some.
-
This seahorse learns fast: already starting to eat from a plastic cup sunk in the sand.
-
I don't mind getting a special tank and chiller to drop it to 18C though, but it will take some time. CF told me that the seahorses had been there for 1/2 mth, so not very sure about the long term survival of this seahorse here.

I have always hesitated to get a seahorse here as almost all are (I believe) wild caught. Hence I was pleasantly surprised by the captive bred seahorses at the LFS: the whole gang of them actually surged forwards onto the glass towards you as you stand in front of the tank, asking to be fed. I was so impressed. I am thinking of getting a mate for it, if it does well after a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, the temp will be as cool as it can get, hope my corals don't get wiped out though....

Bro, thanks for the advice. It does have a hearty appetite though...feeding several times a day. I actually handfeed it, using a pair of long tweezers, quite satisfying to watch it gobble down the frozen mysis, frozen brine shrimp and live brine shrimps as well.

I just bought a pot-bellied seahorse from Coralfarm, captive bred and already feeding on frozen. It is now in my reef tank, feeding well on frozen mysis within 1 day, settled at a low flow zone and temp about 23-24 C. I know that these temperate seahorses prefer 18-20 C, according to literature, but I am just wondering if 23-24C will have any significant adverse effects on the seahorse. Also I have probloems trying to determine the sex- any experts can help?

How to glue sponge together

Apparently Loctite is safe, together wiith many other superglues available in DIY shops. -
I have a crocea under similar light conditions like yours, 2 actinics and 2 white fluorescents, and kept it very near the lights, perched on top of the reef. It seems to be doing OK for these 2-3 mths. Crocea has the highest light demands. Perhaps your can try squamosa- they need less light, but colours tend to be more dull- like brown/green.

You serious? Spending too much time on your hobbies?

The anxiety of getting your O Level results and the superimposed event of a tank crash will easily make you view things in a negative and pessimistic light. But like all other unfortunate events, the pain will slowly (or quickly) go away, and I hope that you have a great restart in this hobby. I am also now in the orchid growing hobby (an equally expensive hobby) , and I find that keeping marine fish and corals is more stressful because : 1) Fish and corals and other inverts are animals- we grow attached to them and when they die, we naturally will feel sad 2) unlike plants, they die quickly 3) they need constant care, feeding, monitoring, unlike orchids, which can go without water for weeks. But of course, we hobbyists hope that the pleasure outweighs the stress.

Shun's 1st marine tank - JBJ 28g nano HQI

Hmm so strange, how come i am quoted such a high price? -
How come O level results look complicated nowadays, does L1R5 mean ?L=Language, R=? I thought just count the number of A1s?
-
All the best for tomorrow. O Levels for me...so very long ago!

Thanks for the advice.

Just bought 3 Sexy Shrimps and prior to release into the tank, I fed my fish well. Unfortunately my maroon clownfish took a bite at the smallest one barely seconds after release into the water, and the injured body drifted down into the waiting tentacles of a plate coral below. The tiny body was engulfed within a minute. Quite unnerving. Here are the remaining 2, surviving still.

6-line wrasse vs royal gramma
jythong replied to jythong's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
The problem with mine is that during feeding, it will gorge itself and after satiation, will actually PREVENT the firefish and gramma from eating by chasing them away from the food when they come to feed. So you can imagine how I wish I could spear it with my tweezers... Anyway I took my reef apart and gave the wrasse to a friend. -

When I bought my blue gonio, it was closed and I thought they were blue zoas! Anyway are those pink ones expensive? I almost bought the red/orange ones, but rather expensive, quoted 3 blue notes. I don't think i will pay that price for gonio, since they have poor longterm survival rates (according to literature). In fact the blue gonio has ceased to extend much now. The common green one (stokesii, I think) seems to be more active. -
This mushroom so special meh? Got it from AM 2 mths ago. Will let you know next time I see one for sale. I think GO has/had one- larger and irregular stripes.

I think LemonLemon meant that all angelfish are not suitable for beginners, but if die die must try angel, then koran is the easiest of all angelfish.
