from what I've heard from people here... for marine, 10mm is the absolute minimum thickness... I am at 12 mm now.

Simply Astounding. I can't even imagine the amount of cash that went into this marvel.

I've never used a proper skimmer with a needle wheel pump before. I'm not very sure how it'll work and be integrated into the sump until I have one at hand. Anyone care to illustrate how one is hooked up?
-
Gravity feeding the Skimmer is already something i'm planning on since there are 4 holes from the overflow chamber. One will empty out into the sump like normal. one will go into the skimmer. the other 2 holes would be used for the return pump. Another question. Since there are 2 holes for the return, is it advisable to split the return flow into to pipes?
-
Thanks for the answers and suggestions. It does seem like an excellent Idea to flip the Sump tank. This way I just need to extend the overflow pipes to pour out at the right end. Gravity will help me there. The return pump will have to only pump water straight up without making any turns.

I recently got this amazing tank from a fellow reefer here. This is my first time having such a huge tank. 4ft by 2 ft by 2.5ft It is also the first time I'm having a tank with a sump. Here's a graphic of what the sump will be like. The help I need now is What kind of things can I put in there to make the tank work. 1. Should I pack a deep sand bed (4 inches ) in there with some small pieces of live rock? 2. Should I DIY an Algae scrubber in there? 3. Where could I possibly house some Macro Algae? 4. What kind of media do I need to use where the water overflows? Currently I have Anti Phos, Activ Carbon and loads of bio rings and balls. I'll probably get a good chiller the moment I can afford one. For now the only equipment I'll have in there is a powerhead and a skimmer. I thinking of a FOWLR tank since the tank is so large. All the live rock that I have from the previous tank are in buckets with the water circulating. I'm wondering if they are still "live"rocks.

#1 - A strong Powerhead, somewhere between 4000-5000 l/hr (Highest Priority) #2 - Skimmer (second Highest priority) #3 - Lighting for 4ft tank #4 - Chiller All items need to be suitable for a 4 foot tank. PM me if you have any of these equipment. Thank you.

Hi, i've got a few designs and am looking for tank makers. any contacts will be appreciated. thank you.

Wow I'm really watching your set-up like a hawk. What I have in mind for my tank is very similar to your's. Even the positioning of the tank in your home is the same. Looks like you are preparing to do something awesome with those LEDs. I'm Looking forward to your next update here.

your tank is lovely. I do wonder how you manage to stick your hand all the way in there to do any sprucing.
-
your tank is looking awesome. Care to Pm me your Tankmaker's contact details and the cost of your set-up?
-
it's sad that you may be selling it.. your tank is really beautiful.

I was thinking the same thing as it would be troublesome to filter the water before it goes into the chiller... some added pipe work there.. Best if I do the 1 or 2 return pump method. Anyway Wilson.. I saw it in your tank thread. Very snazzy. That is probably what I'll be doing as well to hide the chiller. I'll be able to construck one of those I think. I'm still waiting for the Tank makers to send me the quotation. I'm going to have to keep an eye out in the sales threads too. -

Steven, I get what you mean but would gravity be enough to run the water through the chiller? Would this method be inviting more risk? -

Ya, That might be a possible Problem there Thexder. I'll look into that once the I've recieved the Tank quotation from the Tank makers. We can't just jump start a saltwater tank like a freshwater tank. So much planning to go through. After failing twice, succeeding once and then being wiped out by a dead anemone, I'm still poisoned by the hobby. My girlfriend initially poisoned me and now she has decommisioned her tank, leaving the poison in me. hehe. So if the skimmer takes up too much space in the second compartment and I'm not able to fit in the powerhead for the chiller in there, I've got to fit it into the 3rd compartment like one of the earlier designs right? I'm hoping there'd be enough space though. -
wow $400 would get you a tank and barely some equipment dude. Sand and Live rock do pop up pretty often on the forums here. Try to grab those. Safer if you ask me. Less likelyhood of having unwanted pests in your rocks. About the cycling.. never try to rush it. I've paid the price in the worst possible way.

So it's either #1 From 3rd Compartment of Sump --> Chiller --> back to tank or #2 From 2nd Compartment of Sump --> Chiller --> to 3rd Compartment of Sump --> Back to Tank The first method seems okay but I'm afraid that if somehow the water going back into the tank is disturbed because of the 2 pumps, there might be a flooding incident. I feel it may be safer to have just one pipe that is returning water to the main tank. Correct me if I'm wrong here. The second method apart from having more pipe work to do, seems to make efficient use of the chiller. It does make sense that earlier, freshly chilled water was continously going back into the chiller. -

Just to clarify, is this what you mean Thexder So it does not really matter how strong the Chiller Powerhead is as long as the water that gets back in there is the desired temperature right? -

how are chillers usually included through the system? If the pump is a very strong one, would I still have to worry about that? -

as innovative as that is, I'd like to have a tank which can be viewed from all the sides.
