Nano Reef inspired from www.nano-reef.com
TayHongSiang replied to TayHongSiang's topic in Members Tank & Specs
Latest addition: Fire Coral (taken from www.reefkeeping.com - All Fire corals are calcareous hydrozoans and belong to the genus, Millepora. The other calcareous hydrozoans, including the azooxanthellate lace corals, species of Stylaster and Distichopora, are closely related to Millepora, but are put into a different taxonomic group. Being hydrozoans rather than anthozoans, Millepora are not true stony corals, although their abundance does allow them to be a major contributor to reef structure and sediments. Fire corals are found in tropical seas, worldwide, predominantly on reef crests and in shallow waters subject to high water movement. For an unknown reason, they are conspicuously absent from the reefs of Hawaii. Rapid proliferation by fragmentation allows rapid growth and encrustation of Millepora on the windward reef crests. Upright branching and vertical plating growth forms are found in areas removed from severe wave action.) Fire_coral.pdf -
Bro Lemon, why dun add some SPS like montipora on top...and some soft corals.

Need Advice before starting with corals
TayHongSiang replied to jyoon's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I dun quarantine my corals. What i do is to check on the health of the corals before buying; make sure colours are not bleaching, etc... Depending on yr water paramters, water flow and lightning. For me, zoas and rics somehow dun survive under my care; its usually trial and error...haha -

Thank you brothers! Will check out SL tomorrow, coz never been there. -
Bro, Dose live bacteria into your tank to help with yr recycling. There are a few recomendations: FritzZyme #9, Turbo Start and Reefmax bacteria.

Once yr tank is cycled, its quite normal for yr nitrate to be above 10pp. It shows that yr biological system has been established. If you really want to reduce further to make yr water really sneaky clean, then one way is to add cheato / mangrove into your sump or install a denitrator. It all depends on your expectations. Some reefers do not want to see a speck of algae in their tank or they want to keep SPS, so nitrate has to be almost zero. LPS and softies quite tolerant of nitrate, so dun worry so much and spending yr money on unnecessary stuffs. Just do a 10-15% water change for next 3 days. Dun stock up on fishes for the time being. But you can shop for corals

I think you have too many fishes for a 2 footer. Not enough space for them to establish territory. Keep one damsel will do. -
I like yr rock scape coz can accomodate lots of corals...can put montipora or SPS on top...hehe..

Yes, a few big ones and medium size pratas and quite a lot of red cynarinas. Be prepared for at least 3 blue notes and above for the pratas. If you see some pui pui size cynarina is 4 blue notes. -

Not much space on the top for SPS, if you intend to add more. But you have lots of space below for more corals. How about adding a huge prata below...haha

25 Reasons why your zoos polyps won't expand
TayHongSiang replied to ambystoma82's topic in Soft Coral Forum
Dun know leh brother....last time my zoas will just shrink, very demoralising. So i dare not keep liao, although i saw a lot at LPS. Like more lehcheh than women. -
For me ahh...i feed flakes in the morning and when i come back in the evening, diatoms sprout liao...gana sai. So i control the food intake of my fishes to once a day and change 10% water every 3 days, but the brown algae still appear. Tell you la brother, so long as under control can already...i recently use the Reefmax Ridphos. You can check out www.jirehmarine.com Effectiveness dun know yet, just try 2 days ago only.
