Best time to feed is when lights are off....their tentacles will start coming out searching for food. But sometimes, if they are really desperate for food, their tentacles will also appear in the day. Just turn off yr wavemaker and feed them with tiny bits of prawn or fish meat weekly or alternate weeks will do...once they are accustom to feeding, you do not have to switch off yr wavemaker anymore. You can also feed them with cyclopee or those prepared food, sold in AM@Katong or Henry's gourmet @ML. Bascially most LPS feed in the night...also true for sps...though i failed my attempt with staghorn.. bro, lemon i cannot imagine pple feed their LPS everyday....wahahahaha...this is funny

There's another method of fragging which i learnt from youtube.com whereby you do not need to use mesh to hold them....just place yr frags in a small tub with small rocks inside...they will automatically attached themselves on it. watch and enjoy.

It will split out slime when stressed...but its ok. After 2 weeks you can safely removed the "veil"....sometimes you will encounter 2 heads...i have one like that, but i do not intend to frag it. If you want to accelerate the growth of your frags...dose amino acids...one product you can use is Kent Marine Accent which i got it from reef depot....it will help yr frags to develop tissue growth faster.

Fragging Acropora
TayHongSiang replied to TayHongSiang's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Yo brothers, Thank you for your advices and help. I managed to frag my acropora....the pictures below....haha... Sadly, i used the epoxy....and it messed up my tank real BAD....F@#king real bad... My water became very cloudy and my frags did not stick on the rocks. After a while, my frags start to drop onto my substrate....want to cry liao... In a state of despair, i did water change...situation under control for a while...though water was still very cloudy. Later one of my goby did not make it...too much for it to handle. In the end, i managed to stick one of the frag onto the rock while the rest i have to let go...RIP. But this morning, after i din another water change, the frag kept vomitting milky stuffs....another major headache....no choice i decide to dump it. Good thing my LPS and softies are still doing great...these guys are hardy...haha. At least, i learnt some new things....fragging acropora. cool... What i do was to use a pair of pilers to break them....but i also used my hands to break the smaller ones...but wearing gloves will be better, coz these staggies can "cut" my skin....can feel the sharp pain. -
Haha...you are a clean freak...same goes for me...i hate those brown algae.

Hi SPS experts, Any brothers here know how to frag a colony of staghorn and mount them onto the rocks? My hands itchy, tried to shift its position last night and my epoxy does not stick the colony effectively....fell down a few times... Kept vomiting milky stuffs until my whole tank cloudy. Need help here to frag the colony. Can i just stick the frag directly on my rocks instead of mounting it onto coral shears? Currently, the colony is guarantine in a tub with air pump before it cause my tank to crash from its milky stuff. Hope someone can advice me asap....feeling a bit lost...

wahh....crisis last night....si beh sian....hands itchy...i went to shift my staghorn position, but the epoxy cd not stick...and my staghorn stressed out...keep vomiting milky substance until my whole tank damn cloudy ....keep changing water until my kitchen floor spratle with salt water...also no use, still cloudy...no choice decided to go and sleep first. This morning woke up...good thing no fish died and the rest of my corals ok...but my staggie still vomitting...(must have really stressed him out ) Regret man...should not mendle with it last night and realised the D&D epoxy not strong enough to hold it n also causing my water to be cloudy. So this morning i took out the staggie and put it in a tub with an air pump and did another 10% water change. I will be fragging my staggie tonight...realised colony is too big for my tank....any experts here can advice me how to frag it??? After that, i will give some away..... otherwise my whole tank will be filled with staggies...hahaha... -

thanks for yr advice bro.....ya I placed my waver towards the glass for indirect flow. Tdy came home nearly heart attack...saw lots of detritius greeted in front of me n my SPS start to vomit...my green cleaner wrasse must have caused all these n it died....probably choked....HahaHaha...quickly do a water change and changed new filter wool...wah...crisis....heng now stabilized....phew! Body ache now.... -
nice....i love to see a clean tank, so pleasant to the eyes...what's next on yr list bro? more LPS or SPS perhaps...
-
Bro. check yr salinity level....i gana this b4 and all my fishes died...nearly caused my tank to crash...even my brain was bloated up like balloon. If you have been doing regular water change while feeding....yr nitrate shd be in control. Twice a day feeding w/o skimmer, quite dangerous....
-
I encounter diatoms also despite using DI water a few weeks back. I just scrubbed my tank and took my rocks out to clean them with a toothbrush....tedious process. But after that, much better. Also use phosguard to reduce phosphate level. Increase yr flow will also help.

Wow!!! Your pratas and cinderella shui man....worthwhile investments.

This is my latest acquisition from GO....a staghorn sps. I am giving a shot to see how difficult sps can be and decide to start off with this less demanding staghorn. The only think is, i am not too sure whether the colour is supposed to be green or brown....keeping my fingers crossed as today is the 3rd day. Polys fully extend when lights are off. Currently, feeding on rotifer and phytoplankton. The placement is right on top of my tank....so when i change water, some of the polyps will be exposed to stimulate low tide. Since, i am running a 3000l/hr wavemaker, must well give it a try...haha.
