Depends also whether you are skimming wet or dry by adjusting yr air intake. More air intake, more wet skimmate. Usually, wet skimmate will see more bubbles accumulating on the neck of the skimmer.

Bro Cully, I m keen to know in detail abt yr set-up. If you do not mind, how does yr overflow system works. I understand u using yr cannister, so the output goes into your sump on the side and you have a return pump?

Switch off MH will be fine. Can also freeze some 1.5 bottles into yr freezer and once they are frozen can out them in yr sump, while you send for repair or trade in for a new chiller.

I intend to change to a 3ft shallow tank, then use my current 2footer as sump. Then for lighting i intend to use LED..or you think 6 x T5 will be better? The height will be 1ft plus....approx 35cm. 70% LPS and softies & 30% SPS

my algae problem not so serious now...i just need them to maintain...coz i also scrub my tank walls regularly...let me c how...coz i m upgrading soon...may have problem catching them later...lol

You know yr cannister you can adjust the output (o/p) of the flow....just lower it will do... I was told to do that for biohome and must use old water to rinse a few times....try not to cramp too many things into yr cannister....and if you are putting carbon....rmb to replace it every 2-3 months and carbon will absorb yr trace elements from the water also. Yr first compartment always put filter wool....n take it out to wash or replace them weekly or every 2 weeks depending of your bioload of yr tank.

Regarding the bubbles part...you can solve this by adjusting yr o/p lower. Yr cannister will stop blowing bubbles after that. Biohome no need so much....beta to put yr biohome in a filter bag. Everyweek, you have to dip yr biohome a few times using yr old water to remove dirt and dead bacteria...so beta place them inside a filter bag...only cost $1. Just place yr biohome in the 2nd compartment...that will be fine and let yr bacteria cultivate there nice and cosy.

i changed every 3 days 10%...but u dun have to follow me la...hahaha...as i m running on cannister. Once i upgrade to sump, i will change weekly...i think that is decent enough to remove organic waster that the skimmer did not skim and replenish trace elements in the water.

I like the idea of a shallow tank also....if your sunlight can penetrate into your main tank as well, you can place sps on top..that will be perfect. Probably yr liverocks have to get artificial types coz they r lighter...in the SR, your cabinet can tahan...but in the LR say, one yr or more...may start to bend and give way...coz usually for cabinets, they use ply wood. i'm just offering my opinion...final decision up to you, since u posted this thread to seek advice.

Anybody seen Court Jester Goby...looking for this....very good in controlling algae...used to got them from JM but my dottyback killed them all.
