  1. I m not surprised if dissolved organic nutrients may be beneficial to some corals....coz whenever i do frequent water change my mushies and acan lord dun like it. But when my water is a bit "dirty", they seems to enjoy haha...
  2. I suggest you go down and c for yourself as i m a noob in identifying wat sort of anthias and the price coz it depends how many u are buying and depending on uncle's mood...haha...
  3. RB will be having medan, philippines, and bali shipment this coming friday. WATCH OUT! Nothing much left at RB. Lots of anthias and some interesting wrasse and the usual rhino supersuns that have been there for past 2 months.
  4. Got a orange crush echinata from GO over the weekend.
  5. GO has very nice YUMAs....i mean really super nice fat and briliant YUMAs!!! that will make yr eyes pop out...haha... Saw some very nice candy cane also...not the usually branching type...it comes in a cluster form and the colours is shui. Some aussie orange crush acans (which i got one for myself) and acan lords. Very nice blastos - big heads, colours - red / green / red + green and pink blasto merletti. The usual big and fat pratas, trachy brain and open brain. (while you are reading these, some of these stuffs may be gone liao, so dun scream at me, if you can't find these there anymore)
  6. Dun ever attempt on sea apple although they look nice...they are destructive to corals...haha.. 7. These problems are quite common...once your water parameters stabilised and the biological process matures...yr algae problem will reduce. And no matter what you do to your tank, your livestocks will not die so easily. And with yr car coming up....guess its time for you to up the economy of reefing hobby.
  8. Main thing for mushies is your lightings cannot be too strong...for instance, if your tank height is 1ft plus, 2x T5s is good enough. If using MH, have to put them in shaded areas. Depending on the type of mushies also. Discosoma more tolerant of strong lights. Rics prefer low lights. And if you use tap water for yr tank, they dun open as big.
  9. You can put 2 1.5 litres of freezed bottles into your sump...that will keep yr temp to around 26 at least for 3-4hrs a day.
  10. i dun test them...haha. I dose based on my tank size. (you can refer to this http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.php) Table 1. Parameters critical to control in reef aquaria. Parameter: Reef Aquaria Recommendation: Typical Surface Ocean Value:1 Calcium 380-450 ppm 420 ppm Alkalinity 2.5-4 meq/L 7-11 dKH 125-200 ppm CaCO3 equivalents 2.5 meq/L 7 dKH 125 ppm CaCO3 equivalents Salinity 35 ppt sg = 1.026 34-36 ppt sg = 1.025-1.027 Temperature 76-83° F Variable2 pH 7.8-8.5 OK 8.1-8.3 is better 8.0-8.3 (can be lower or higher in lagoons) Magnesium 1250-1350 ppm 1280 ppm Phosphate < 0.03 ppm 0.005 ppm Ammonia <0.1 ppm Variable (typically <0.1 ppm) Table 2. 11. change water often using distilled water...this is still the best solution. no need to invest in expensive denitrator.
  12. calcium + alkaline level + magnesium + good salt mix soon you will see deep red / purple / pink appearing on yr rocks and glass walls if you want some green colour on yr rocks...add strontium. strontium good for LPS also.
  13. wow...8 tubes of ATI for yr SPS...why dun use LED?
  14. ya..another prata fanatic...looks good man...i like yr acan echinata and blasto also.
  15. thanks bro yooyoo...i will be getting the giesemann midday to supplement my ATI aquablue. sorrie to hitchhike yr thread bro ah lim.
  16. you can get PURPLE UP...or increase yr calcium level using brands like grotech Part A and Part B or aquapharm brand.
  17. yr blastos collection is making me drool man...
  18. Depending on the brand also. I used AquaZ for 3 months plus can see the lights are dimming and time to change. Can tell by looking at the tube...the extreme corners have dark spots...sign is time to change. Hence, i will be changing to ATI and Giessmann...cost more but can last longer and more brighter.
  19. Need to keep them in schools coz they will swim together and hunt for algae together....the display tank at JM last time had quite lot of these.
  20. Your lighting too strong liao....2 x T5 is good enough if you are using ATI tubes...I believe yr tank height is 1ft plus, right? Coz i bought a 4 x 24W fixture from a brother here last week and i switch on all 4 tubes for 8 hrs and when i come home, i saw my LPS corals like brain, echinata and acans not too happy...not opening up as usual and they vomit some stuffs...sign of stress. So, when i switch on only 2 tubes, they are much better and expand like wat they usually do. LPS like hammer, frogspawn and octo can tahan 4x 24w...thats y, these you can place right on top. But for blasto, prata, cynarina, brain, acans and echinata...no need strong lights.
  21. I kept a few of these before....but i warn you, they are very shy and you need get at least 5 of them to form a group. Otherwise, they are always hiding and you cannot have territorial fishes in yr tank. Last time i bought 3 of these and my bicolour blenny keep attacking them. When they kaput, i couldn't find their bodies...too small to find and most likely my crabbies ate them for food.
  22. You can feed lettuce or those dried seaweed for yr herbivore LS...coz algae will grow everywhere from the glass walls to your pipings, on yr sand bed...not only on yr rocks...i dun think you want that....coz some of these algae you need to scrap them real hard to get rid of them esp those on the glass walls... which i am experiencing now...haha
  23. Rmb to change yr phosphate media every 2-3 months of usage. If not it will leak phosphate back to your tank. You can prolong its use by taking out to wash and dry it under the sun. Skimmer will take out organic waste like ammonia. However, to reduce detritus, you need to do 10% water change every week and with good water flow to keep them with accumulating at dead spots in yr tank. And also yr sponge will help to trap detritus and dirt. I dun think its a good idea to totally trust LFS on this. Those hairy algae you can pluck them or use a siphon to suck them out. You can also dose calcium to help to accelerate the growth of coraline aglae on yr rocks making it hard for green algae to grow.
