may i know the reason for the sand bed? to cultivate bacteria or to have a mini refugium system? i would suggest you use the 2nd compartment to grow macroalgae instead. try to keep yr sump simple so that it is easier to maintain. If you have sand bed / a refugium, it will be a permanent fixture. I read that having a refugium system, the drawback is after 5 years you have to re-setup yr tank again otherwise, it will crash.

power failure is because sometimes the water gets into the socket. Wrapped yr sockets or power points or tapped them with a transparent tape. i kena that also. flood is common when the hose is not tightly secured to the pumps....i kena also. i also kena my skimmer overflow..believe it or not and it..short-circuit my whole house and i have to go outside and switch back the main circuit. (that was a hang-on skimmer)

The worst shiit that striked was when i came home one day, and my CO told me my fishes are die-ing and i saw my blenny lying on the sand bed, my maroon clown breathing heavily and my brain bloated like a balloon. I realised my salinity level is 1.3 plus!...change my waters a few times...but in the end all my fishes RIP.

how abt skimz 150 or bubble magus? i think iwarna or lck carries bubble magus...china brand but quite effective n cheap also.

An alternative to live rocks is biohome to cultivate beneficial bacteria. You may want to DIY an algae scrubber to reduce algae in main tank or mangrove refugium for nutrients export or a FR to reduce / control phosphate level or nothing at all is just as good, so long water gets circulated.

You should switch off yr system while feeding. Just dun on off on off frequently...otherwise yr pump will spoil easily.

You can try Oceanic. Dissolve very easily and price is reasonable. $35 for 50 gallons.

sounds like they are expiry dates...hahaha...so that you have to visit the LFS to stock up.
