Reconfirm using another set of test kit, better to be of different brand. If you have just achieved zero NO3 & PO4, maybe there are still NO3 & PO4 leeching out of your 'live' rocks, but please confirm by test first. If NO3 & PO4 really zero, will take a few months to slowly 'clear' off that if that is the case. Water change is the more effective method. Tangs, sea urchins, blue legged hermits crabs, rabbit fish can be considered. But, you must research more & see whether they are compatible with your current livestock & whether any 'clashes' with futher plans for your tank. Err... take note, sea urchins also eat your coralline aglae. And the tangs, rabbitfishes... etc might not be 100% effective. Good luck.

I have my tank at the balcony too. But I am lucky as it is not exposed to direct sunlight. Rather, the sun lights reflected off the windows of the opposite block onto one side of my tank. My corals that are placed there are very healthy, recieving natural sunlight. Nope, I don't have much issue with algae due to very low NO3 & PO4.

Normally you should see algae in 1 to 2 weeks, sometimes even up to a month, depending on your NO3 & PO4 level. Meanwhile, if you see any brown- black patches, please clean them off. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

The amount to dose will be indicated on the labels of the additives that u bought. Follow the intructions closely to prevent over dose. Test kits can help to ensure what u dose are within requirements however, there re some u cannot measure, example: trace elements. Follow the instructions closely for those u can't measure or don't dose in the 1st place. Regular water changes can replenish trace elements. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

I use aquapharm. Reason is because I am using their Part A & Part B which comes in 5L. So, iodine, trace elements all use the same brand which I believe should be 'compatible'.

After switching to this salt, my coralline algae grows like mad. Spread very fast. All my live rocks, i would say 90% of them encrusted with purple or red coralline after about 2 months of using this salt. Never see such nice view before in my tank. A good salt for those who wants more coralline algae.

I had mine placed just 20cm below my LED which is 'on' for 9 hours per day. Open it's mantle big big.

I have read somewhere in this forum long time ago that somebody recommended the flowrate of the return pump to be 10 times your tank volume. Example: If your tank volume is 380L, the return pump should be rated at 3800L/hr or around there.

On your above question, that is very subjective. For me, I am comfortable with using SeaChem.

Hi dr evil, any LFS in the west selling this??? Paris Ris Farmway is far & inconvenient for us who don't have own mode of transport. Can go in with cab but have to walk out.

Juz got 3 small ones from ML, henry two days back. They are doing very well, swimming together, sleep together. They are cute & beautiful.
-
The possibiltiy on having 'pest' is minmum. Also, they are already used to tank condition, so survival rate is suppose to be higher. The SPS frags i got from fellow reefers here is doing well but those I got from LFS, all up lorry.

Jus one more thing to share, last time, I normally on the lights for ATS when my tank light is off & off my ATS lights when my tank light is on. This helps to minimize alk swing. Of course, ATS light still need to follow 16hr 'on' & 8 hr 'off' general rule, unless speical case. Algae needs to rest too. You can find more info in this forum, under 'General ReefKepping- Mega NO3 & PO4 powerful remover'. (Something like that).

Tap water or RO/DI for SPS dominant tanks

SPS cannot survive at all, with all the high NO3 and PO4. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 -

Yes. Depending on the growth of the algae on the screen, sometimes 4-5 days is possible, if they grow fast. This is to prevent underlying algae from dying and release NO3 back. At least once a week even if growth not much & one side per week/ cleaning. This is to ensure other side still have algae to work. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Hmm... I thought clownfish eat almost everything when they are hungry, unless they are sick, very sick.

Tap water or RO/DI for SPS dominant tanks
brojj replied to boxerz's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Last time used tap water when I first started. NO3 was over range, more than 100 & PO4 was 3. Alage everywhere. Lucky that time was keeping FOWLR. Have switched to DI after keeping mushroom ( my first corals) & they cannot survived. Since then, a lot have changed & improved (equipment wise, time spent & amount of efforts put in). It is a real long journey in reefing. Have learnt a lot from this forum & fellow reefers. DI is a must. -
Bro Cheemi, u got do your homework by reading the label. Bacteria bloom will be normal. Biopellets are food source for the bacteria. I would be worried if there is no bacteria bloom, meaning the bacteria dun like the biopellets or the biopellets are fake, that will sure lead to failure. We are actually cutivitaing bacteria to help us remove the NO3. Adding slowly will be fine. Remember: Slowly is the key to success here.

I had ran an ATS alone for 9 mths and ATS with skimmer for another 9 mths before. ATS alone does not affect any of my livestocks. NO3 maintained around 2 to 5. After add in skimmer, my NO3 maintained 0.68 to 1. All using D&D test kit untill i added in SPS too fast and my NO3 shoot up to 50. Now, running skimmer with biopellets. NO3 maintain 0 so far, with the same skimmer that run with ATS before. So, running ATS with skimmer has its benefits. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Where to buy O -ring for TLF Phosban 150
brojj replied to I love angel's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Madpetz have meh??? Last time i have asked before, the lady said dun have ley, they dun sell the O- ring. That was 3 months ago. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 -
Dun worry if u add in very slowly. And one more thing that u must make sure every single individual pellets is tumbling/ moving. Those not moving= dead spot= H2S production, which is deadly. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Yes. It does help to clear the yellowish water slowly to clearer water. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
