How to estimate much to feed anemone ?
brojj replied to woyeng**'s topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I used to feed my pinky 3-4 times a week, untill it split into 2. They become big & fat. They died when my sea apple release toxic due to stress caused by my error, causing tank crashes. Lost almost 70% of my livestock. That was 3 years ago. I miss my pinky. Pink- Pink anemone. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 -
Amendments, MH should not be overkill for SPS. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Depending on wat u keep. If u are keeping mainly SPS, then it should be overkill. But light acclimation is important for new stocks. MH is strong. To convert to LED, AI hydra should be nice, radion can be consider too but beware of the fan break down issue on radion. Get those LED lightset that have other colors beside blue & white if u have other options, example green, red, warm white LED. IMO, i would set the program to go as much as possible to 16k, even for MH bulbs, 20k, for marine tanks as my SPS can survive better, under blue lights. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Anyway, from the pics, it is not AEFW. Not sure whether saliert flatworm exit is useful or not as it is not design for this creature in the 1st place. Would advise u to dip all your corals that u purchase in the future after this saga is over. CoralRX & fauna marine ultra pest control are one of the 2 that can be used. Choose & use only one. The corals inside the tank would cost much more than one bottle. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

IMO, a yellow wrasse will be more effective against nudi & 6 line will be against AEFW. In any case, if they are well fed, they will basically be useless. Saliert flatworm exit i have used before on AEFW. However, instruction must be followed very closely. It is a double sided sword. I would advise u to read up more on how people use it using google before u dose this in, if not, prepare to collect dead fishes & corals. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

I feed my tube anemone with big fish pellet too. Drop pellet somewhere near & watch it catches the pellet & put into the mouth. I am wary of pellets feeding SPS although i had seem them being fed with fish pellets, crushed into fine powders and using wavemakers to boardcast feeding. IMO, still feels that oysterfeast & reed roids or those corals food will be better choices for corals. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Giesemann sold & collected. Thanks for all who has shown interest in this retrofit. Solite still around. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

More pics on solite. 4x39. Dun underestimate it's power. Good for zoas, soft corals, LPS & easy SPS if u place SPS at 80% of your tank. $30 only. New one $100 +. There is a fan in the middle top of the casing for cooling. Lelong lelong.... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Giesemann reserved by Bro Ming69. Solite still avaliable. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

The market price for new ATI T5 tube is around $30+. Considering they still have around 6-8mths effective operating lifespan left & doing some calculations, the fixtures are being sold at very very low price. As good as free. But, regardless whether u want the tubes or not, price is still the same. Pilots don't fly here, restricted air zone or else i will shoot u down. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Testing will be done too. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Hi fellow reefers, i have 2 lightset (for 3 feet) up for sale. 1st will be giesemann retrofit 2 tubesx39W. For this lightset, it will come with free1 ATI purple plus & 1 ATI aquablue special (both T5 tubes used for 2 mths). I am the 2nd owner. Reflectors a bit old but still good enough to reflect the lights. Can be used to supplement LED or as add on. Fixture used for around 2-3mths. Looking at $60. Next will be solite 4 tubes x 39W. Take note that this fixture comes with only 1 single reflector for all 4 tubes, not the individual reflectors type. Do not comes with any tubes. However, will be using 1 ATI aquablue special to test this lightset for interested parties & will give away when deal close. This tube used for 2.5mth. Good enough for softies, zoas, LPS but not recommended for SPS. Looking at $30. All prices listed above is low consider the relatively new tubes for giesemann & solite fixture bought in May. Avaliable separate or as a package. Reason for selling, already upgraded to ATI SunPower, 6 tubes. Collection in Jurong West. Pics for them while still in operation. Pls PM me if interested. ALK swing? If problem is still not solve after the following the advise given above, u can consider running a refugium or algae scrubber in your sump & the photoperiod of your refugium or algae scrubber to be reverse that of your main DT. Meaning, when the lights in your DT is on, the lights at the sump for refugium or algae scrubber to be off & vice versa. Running refugium or algae scrubber also helps to reduce your NO3 & PO4, minimise the negative effects of ALK/ KH swing & a place for pods to reside & reproduce which in turn when some of this pods find their way to the DT, becomes food for the fishes.

Which type of coral LPS or SPS doesn't need chiller
brojj replied to fadlys's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Get a chiller if you are serious about corals. If not, forget the idea & run FOWLR. Running fan can maintain temperature below 30degC for nano tank, but you have to top up water every day due to high evaporation rate, top up untill u are tired. Also, salinity swings will affect SPS due to high evaporation rate (salinity becomes higher at this point), during top up fresh water (salinity drops back to normal at this point). This swing is enough to kill your SPS after some time. SPS needs very stable water parameters. Any parameters change quickly, they become stress, then RTN or STN occurs, u can say bye bye to them. Then, u become fustrated & u will reach a point where u will become unhappy & give up this wonderful hobby. Do reconsider this. Keep a FOWLR till u are ready to get a chiller & start reefing. Some reefers started with FOWLR 1st then slowly proceed to reefing after they have gained enough experience/ knowlegde about keeping water parameters stable. And most important, enough $$ to get the required equipment. I am one of them. -
The pods will became it's food.

Bro, any signficane improvements to your corals, in particular, the SPSes after feeding zeovit coral vitalizers? I feed daily with reef roids, polylab acid & plus, 3-4 times oyster feast. My zoas reproduce faster, more colorful, fatter. My SPS, hmm... does not look excited at all. Maybe they ate enough already, from the fishes poo... I have a shallowtail angel that eats a lot & poo a lot, his fav poo poo location, in front of the SPS at the top. Read somewhere fishes poo are the best food for SPS. Worried about my NO3, but still within range, 2 to 5. By the way, juz stopped feeding coral vitalizer because of some issue.

KH fluctuation once kills a few of my SPS colonies.
